Ayumu fell into her seat on the bus between Mina and Aoyama and pulled her phone out of her pocket. The others were talking about Mydoria and his powers, but Ayumu was only half listening. She was busy tapping away on her phone, sending a text to Shinso to let him know where she was and to not wait for her after all.
"What did you just say?" Bakugo's outburst caught Ayumu's attention and she looked up from her phone.
Tsyu pointed to where Bakugo was now standing up on the bus, Jiro looking unbothered next to him. "Ya see?" Tsyu commented.
"You know, we basically just met you so it's kinda telling that we all know your personality is flaming crap mixed with garbage." Kaminari added casually.
Ayumu rolled her eyes as Bakugo shouted again, this time aimed at Kaminari. Ayumu went back to typing on her phone, replying to the short text Shinso had sent back.
"You know, Kaminari," Ayumu butted in as she slipped her phone back into her pocket, "considering you actively chose to hang out with Mineta, I don't think you're the best judge of character." Ayumu leaned forward to see Kaminari's face past Aoyama as she spoke, her tone cold. "And if he's the kind of dude you like to hang out with then what does that say about you?"
"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?" Kaminari seemed taken aback, "We all know-"
"We all know you need to watch your mouth." Ayumu leaned back against her seat, no longer looking at the blonde, "Last I checked you still short circuit every time you use your power so maybe you should worry about yourself."
"All right, that's enough." Mr. Aizawa broke through. "It's time to stop messing around. We're here."
The bus stopped outside of a big dome building. The students began to pile off the bus, most of them stopping and just stared at the building in awe.
"Hey." Bakugo's voice startled Ayumu as he stepped off of the bus. "I can defend myself. I don't need your help, Extra."
Ayumu put her hands on her hips looking up at him, "Most people say 'thank you' when someone stands up for them."
"I didn't need you to stand up for me."
Ayumu met Bakugo's hard gaze and felt a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips, "You're welcome. We'll just say you owe me one."
Bakugo turned away from her, "whatever. I don't owe you anything."
Ayumu watched Bakugo for a second before turning to catch up with Mina. Mina was waiting for her a few feet away. "Why did you do that?"
"Do what?"
Mina gestured back toward the bus, "Stand up for Bakugo. You know he's a jerk and Kaminari wasn't wrong."
Ayumu shrugged, "I don't know. It felt like everyone was ganging up on him. He deserved to have someone on his side. Besides, even if Kaminari was right, he didn't need to say it like that."
Mina's gaze went from Ayumu to where Bakugo was walking up the steps to the training facility and then back to Ayumu. "I guess so."
"Hello everyone! I've been waiting for you."
There was a noise of surprise that filled the courtyard just outside of the facility. The space hero, Thirteen, stood in front of them. Being at UA, the students met a lot of famous Pro Heroes, but they were still always starstruck when they met a new hero.
"I can't wait to show you what's inside!" Thirteen continued.
Mina let out a squeal of excitement beside Ayumu while Ayumu fidgeted nervously beside her.
"This is going to be so cool!" Mina proclaimed.
As they entered the facility, a whole world opened up in front of them. It looked like a theme park with all of the different worlds sectioned out, each one holding some special attractions for the students to experience.
"A shipwreck, a landslide, a fire, a windstorm, et cetera. I created this training facility to prepare you to deal with different types of disasters." Thirteen explained. "I call it the Unforeseen Simulation Joint. But you can call it USJ!"
"Just like Universal Studios Japan!" Someone shouted.
"This is going to be so cool! I wonder where we'll start!" Mina was practically bouncing in place next to her.
Ayumu looked around for a moment before she realized, "Didn't Mr. Aizawa say All Might was supposed to be here with us? Where is he?"
Mina stopped and looked around as well, "Oh you're 's probably just running late since he wasn't on the bus with us."
"Probably." Ayumu agreed, putting it out of her mind and continued looking around the facility, getting more nervous as time went on. She wasn't sure either of her quirks would be helpful here. She wasn't exactly looking to be a rescue hero.
"Well, the clock is ticking. We should get started." Mr. Aizawa's voice called everyone to attention.
"Excellent!" Thirteen seemed to be excited to share the USJ with the students. "Before we get started let me say one thing. Well, maybe two things. Possibly three, four, or five. Listen carefully," Thirteen began, "I'm sure you're aware that I have a powerful quirk. It's called: Black Hole. I can use it to suck up anything and turn it into dust."
Mydoria interrupted Thirteen's explanation, "You've used Black Hole to save people from all kinds of disasters, haven't you?"
"That's true, but my quirk could also very easily be used to kill." The excitement and joy everyone had felt was sucked out of them at that moment. "Some of you also have powers that can be dangerous. In our super human society, all quirks are certified and stringently regulated. So we often overlook how unsafe they can actually be. Please don't forget that if you lose focus, or make the wrong move, your powers can be deadly. Even if you're trying to do something virtuous like rescue someone. Thanks to Aizawa's fitness tests, you have a solid idea of your quirks potential. And because of All Might's combat training, you likely experienced how dangerous your powers can be when used against other people."
Ayumu sent a glance Bakugo's way, remembering how he blew up half the building during combat training.
"Carry those lessons over to this class. Today, you're going to learn how to use your quirks to save people's lives. You won't be using your powers to attack enemies or each other, only to help. After all, that's what being a hero is all about: ensuring the safety of others. That's all I have to say. Thank you so much for listening." Thirteen ended with a dramatic bow.
The class broke out in cheers and clapping for the speech Thirteen had given them. Ayumu felt a little more motivated to do her best.
"All right, now that that's over-"Mr . Aizawa was cut short as the lights and fountain began to flicker.
On the main floor, next to the fountain a black hole began to open up. Mr. Aizawa turned around in time to notice it opening and people spilling out of the hole.
"Stay together and don't move!" He commanded, jumping into action before anyone else had a chance to react. "Thirteen protect the students."
Ayumu took a step back, "I don't think this is part of the training."
"Stay back!" Mr. Aizawa commanded a second time as he donned his glasses. "This is real. Those are villains."
