Mom Instincts

Hermione Jean Granger had always been a special child.

Growing up as the only daughter in the upper class suburb of Kent, she had been blessed with doting parents that absolutely adored her. Due to their position in life, Hermione never went without and was often spoiled in the form of books and the odd sweet her father would sneak her when her mother was not looking. Even Harvard Bennett Granger, DDS, could not say no to those big honey eyes of hers.

Hermione realized from a young age that blinking those large doe eyes tended to sway the men in her life, so of course she exploited it when necessary. It got her that extra tart from Mr. Banner, the baker down the street. It also made Harry reign in his need to do something stupid and even Ron usually felt guilty after letting his mouth inevitably run away with him.

Of course, there were the few odd ducks that seemed immune like Professor Snape, but she swore his left eye twitched once when she shot him that Bambi look that made her father crumble to his knees.

Now at the age of twenty-three, she found herself reaping the benefit of her best physical trait, in her honest opinion, and grinned cheekily at her mate – well her soulmate.

"Why the fuck does she get extra? She's tiny! Where is she going to put it!?"

Hermione scoffed. She had a pretty healthy appetite and with a vigorous regime of running and yoga, she burned through her calories quickly. He was just sour because his mates liked her more.

Emily Uley, rolled her eyes heavenward and heaped another helping of macaroni salad on Hermione's plate. The flimsy paper sagged a bit under the weight of the amount of food that had been piled on, but Hermione smiled happily.

Turning towards her disgruntled mate, she nudged him slightly with her hip. "Don't pout darling."

Paul Lahote continued to do just that as he stared glumly at her full plate.

"You can always come back for more," said Emily as she shooed them away and towards the long table that held the rest of his pack-mates and imprints.

Hermione easily slid into a seat, her petite frame once again working for her as she easily found a space between the youngest members of the pack, Collin and Brady.

She adored the two and although they were still young in comparison to the rest of the group, they were growing quite heartily and towered over her small frame despite being only fifteen themselves.

"And how are my favorites doing? Schoolwork going well?"

Both boys sat up a bit straighter at her question, knowing better to slouch either mentally or physically in her presence. There was something about Hermione Granger that made you pay attention. It also helped at the two loved her and saw her as a mother figure of sorts.

"I got an A on my paper on Greek Mythology. Collin failed."

The glare sent over her head was narrowly missed as Hermione turned towards Collin, who looked rather contrite.

"Collin, we worked on that paper together. How did you fail?"

"I forgot it," he said sheepishly.

Hermione sighed. "I suggest trying to talk with Ms. Ranier. She might be more understanding if she knew that you had simply forgotten it."

"Well I did that, but she didn't believe me and called me lazy," he said glumly.

"She what?"

Cutlery stopped and talk ceased as the tangible energy surrounding Hermione caused her hair to literally spark as the air about her seemed to be saturated in the scent of ozone. It tickled at the wolves noses and caused their hackles to raise.

Danger!

Jacob wisely pulled himself and his meal away from the table as he was seated opposite of her. He knew what the warning signs were and he was smart enough to protect himself and more importantly, his food.

Embry whistled low as he realized that Hermione's anger was thankfully not directed at anyone present. It was one thing to piss off the tiny spitfire. It was another entirely to brass her off so much, it caused her magic to spark.

Brady scooted over into Kim, who was already sliding along the bench and urging Jared to do so as well.

The entire pack knew better than to be near Hermione when she got like this.

Sam elbowed Paul none too gently, motioning for him to take care of his mate.

Paul scoffed. He had a healthy sense of self-preservation thank you very much.

Collin knowing that he was indirectly the cause of her anger, panicked for a short moment before gently taking her hand in his. "Hey there. Relax. You know you can't hurt her."

"No, but I can make it look like an accident."

Quil laughed at that. Paul's imprint was fucking amazing and he was a lucky bastard.

Brady winced knowing she could do just that. "We will talk to her and casually mention your name. It will probably resolve itself."

"See to it that it does or else I will have firm words with her myself," stated Hermione.

The threat was clear to all present and they hoped the teacher had enough good sense to listen to the pups. Spirts knew Hermione was fucking terrifying and the rest of the tribe were well aware of her hot temper and acid tongue.

If they thought for one moment that doe eyed little bit was harmless, they were proven wrong and realized that Paul was not the one in the couple you needed to fear. Hermione Granger was a force to be reckoned with and may the Spirits have mercy on anyone who harmed what she considered hers.

Paul was once punched in the face. It did no damage other than cause the guy that threw the punch to break his fingers, but Hermione had flown into a fit and clawed at the man attacking her mate.

Paul had to literally carry her away in order to save the guy who had found himself tackled by all 105 lbs. of fierce brunette that had taken to scratching and kicking at the larger male in righteous fury for assaulting her mate.

Paul, being Paul, had proceeded to take her home and the two were not seen for three days. When they did emerge, Hermione was covered in love bites and Paul was sporting a ridiculously goofy grin that had not faded for another three days.

Collin, although incredibly intimidated by the visage Hermione made whenever angered, was also in awe. She was wonderful and he proceeded to show his appreciation for the elder female by sliding up against her and snuggling into her side.

Immediately, she brought her arm around the tall teen and pressed a kiss to his temple. "Whatever you need. Always."

It was such a simple statement, but held such raw meaning and truth that both Collin and Brady knew that this woman would fight for them in a way that they had never known.

Cousins born to sisters that wanted nothing to do with raising children, their mothers left Washington to the care of their aging grandmother. Their fathers were not in the picture and they had no other family other than their grandmother Elise.

When she passed a few years ago, they had shifted with that loss. The only person that had ever cared for them was gone and the two were absolutely devastated.

Then, along came Hermione.

Hermione Granger with her comforting hugs, unconditional love, never wavering loyalty and fierce determination to see to it that they succeed and receive anything and everything within her power. And they knew that Hermione could win wars, literally, and bring entire regimes to their knees.

They had a warrior in this fierce tiny female and both of them absolutely worshipped her in a sense that they had finally found that maternal figure they had been craving.

Their Grandmother Elise, bless her soul, was lovely, but also very frail and did her best to care for two rambunctious boys. She was also a bit old-fashioned and strict so she rarely gave affection and words of comfort. Their basic needs were never neglected, but they were severely lacking in emotional support.

Now, however, they were overflowing with the endless care from their pack, imprints and most importantly Hermione. Although she was only around 8 years older than them, she spoiled them so and practically adopted the two.

It came as a shock to the entire tribe when she had hired Sam's small contracting business – which employed many members of the pack – to build a large cabin deep in the woods. She ensured that it was spacious, with tall, vaulted ceilings and a very open floor plan. It was isolated, so getting their required hiking on foot or the cheeky Apparition that only one particular curly haired witch had the ability to do. Most importantly, it sat on tribal land.

With the help of magic, the entire project took four months to complete and suddenly the pack had a place to call home whenever needed. Hermione had basically designed a place for all of them and their imprints with room to spare.

It was gargantuan and even larger on the inside. It was practically its own lodge as it had eighteen bedrooms, library, large kitchen, living room, dining room, training room, potions lab, greenhouse and fourteen full bathrooms to spare.

The pack had goggled at the design and when Hermione had invited both Collin and Brady to live there permanently, the two had tackled her and clung on tight. Needless to say, sometimes Paul and Hermione's bed had two extra bodies seeking comfort from the petite witch some nights and even the temperamental silver shapeshifter could not deny the pups that.

His imprint was fucking amazing.

"I love you Hermione."

"I love you too Collin."

"I love you more Hermione!" Brady added needlessly from her other side.

Collin threw his arm up behind Hermione's back and presented Brady his middle finger.

"Collin," said Hermione admonishingly.

The entire pack grinned. She had those Mom instincts down.

AN: Another jaunt into my AU OTP Paul x Hermione. Short little snippets of their life together.

I am currently in the process of writing a more serious multi-chapter story about Paul x Hermione and it will not very lighthearted. There will be a lot of heavy themes as I plan to have Hermione dealing with the aftermath of the war and Paul being unable to accept an imprint and the responsibility that he thinks will hinder his lifestyle. It will be a bit of a mess as the two work it out, but of course they are endgame!

Therefore, it will have NOTHING to do with these fun little oneshots I am doing until then.

Thank you again and keep on the lookout for that story and more randomness. I actually have another short Paul x Hermoine oneshot that I plan to post soon!
