Chapter 8

Cassius was still trying to figure out how to convince Cassie to join him. He was starting to allow himself to feel a little worried about his situation.

"You're joking, Weasley!"

Cassius heard the fourth year Parkinson shriek.

He turned around and saw Parkinson laughing at Cassie and her friends.

He started to walk over to stand over Parkinson.

"You're not telling me someone's asked that to the ball? Not the long-molared -"

Cassius decided to stand over Parkinson at that moment.

She stopped whatever she was saying and turned around slowly. Cassius waited for a minute before speaking.

"Leave her alone, Parkinson. She hasn't done anything to you." He said, a warning in his voice.

'Now's a good chance to get her to trust me more.' Cassius told himself.

"But -" Parkinson tried to say something.

"I did not stutter. Granger has done nothing to you. Leave her alone." Warrington spoke clearly and loudly.

Parkinson looked around, clearly unsure of what to do.

So Draco Malfoy broke the growing tension by turning to Granger.

"Did you change your teeth? Now that Parkinson pointed it out, they don't look as uneven as they used to?" Malfoy asked.

Cassius took that moment to take Parkinson by the arm and lead her away.

"You are to leave them alone." He told her again.

"What's it to you that we fight?" She asked, trying to take her arm out of his grip.

"Because there are things bigger than you at work." He hissed at her.

He let her go and walked away.

Cassius was still trying to find every excuse he could use to see Cassie. Even if it was for just a moment.

So on the twenty-third of December, he walked by the classroom he knew she was in with her cousin and friends.

He didn't have to wait long as he heard her come up with an excuse to go to the bathroom. Cassius stepped into a broom closet and waited for her.

Just as she passed, he pulled her into the closet with him.

"Hello." He grinned down at her, enjoying the tightness of the closet.

"Hello," she grinned back.

"How are you doing?" He asked, kicking a bucket over so that she could stand up on it so that her neck wouldn't hurt.

"I'm doing good. Thank you for standing up for Hermione the other day." She said as she stood on the bucket.

"You're welcome. I'll admit it, it felt weird standing up for -" Cassius had to stop himself.

Calling her a mud-blood would bring him back a few steps.

"A muggle-born." He corrected himself.

"I really appreciate it. I'm sure the Slytherin's aren't giving you too much trouble for doing it."

She was moving her hands, not sure of where to put them. They were against her legs, and then on his arms, and back to her sides.

Cassius let out a little chuckle as he put her hands on his shoulders.

He put his hands on her waist.

Her hair turned pink, causing him to grin.

"I like that color on you. It suits you." He complimented her.

"Thank you." She finally allowed herself to blush.

"So tell me about yourself." Cassius picked up his hand and started to play with her hair.

'You can tell me you're a Seer. I already know. I also know you would walk through fire for your friends.'

"What do you want to know?" She asked.

"How did you become friends with Harry Potter?"

"Really?" She blinked. "You want to know about that?"

"Yeah. It was strange, seeing him walk through the school and there you were. The reason anyone knew you was because you were a metamorphmagus. And then you stood up to Hector your first year… You stood out." He shrugged.

'Hector is someone we should recruit. He would fit in.'

"Harry and I first met in Diagon Alley when shopping for our first year, we were the only two orphans we knew. I met Hermione at Madam Malkin's the same day I met Harry. Ron and I didn't meet until we were on the train." She answered.

"How did you find out you were related to Malfoy?" Cassius asked, unsure of that.

"He told me. I didn't have a clue I had a family until I found out I was related to Sirius Black." She nodded.

"How did you find that out?" He asked.

When she didn't answer he knew he was prying too much.

"How about you answer some questions for me? It's not fair that you get to know me but I don't get to know you." She said.

She lifted one of her hands and started to play with the air on the side of his face.

Cassius felt himself flush.

"There's nothing interesting about me." He lied.

'I don't know if I could lie to you and expect you to come with me.' He admitted bitterly to himself.

"Sure there is. Do you have any siblings?" She asked.

"No. I'm an only child. My parents thought about having another child, but it didn't work out that way. I'm not sure why." He shrugged.

'I would like to ask about it one day though.'

"Where do you plan on doing after school?" She asked.

"I'm going to work in the Ministry. There are a few departments I could go into so I'm not sure which one yet." He answered.

'That's a lie. Damn it. I want to join the Death Eaters just like my father. The Dark Lord will return and I will join him.'

"I want to be a teacher. I told McGonagall that when she becomes headmistress I want to take over her position of Transfiguration teacher." She said.

Cassius chuckled at that.

He could picture it, an older version of Cassie teaching a bunch of kids how to turn a mouse into a pin cushion. Or the first lesson involving the needle. Showing them that she could change her body. He liked that picture.

'But would it be there with the Dark Lord? Or would that be better if… No. Don't think that.'

It was the first thought he had about going against the Dark Lord himself.

Cassius was walking down to the dungeons when he heard a familiar clunking sound behind him.

"Warrington." Moody growled.

Cassius looked around and waited for the man to catch up to him.

"Good evening, Professor." Cassius said politely.

"Have you figured out that egg of yours?" Moody asked.

"No, not yet, sir." Cassius answered.

"Have you thought of putting it under water?" Moody growled.

"What do you mean?" Cassius asked, looking around.

"Put the egg under the water, Warrington. The Dark Lord doesn't like to wait." Cassius watched as Moody walked away.

'Ah, so you're the one who is working with me.' Cassius thought to himself.
