Chapter 11
Cassius couldn't remember the rest of the night. He made sure Cassie was danced with, rested, and then danced some more.
For the last dance, it was a slow one, he enjoyed having her head against his chest.
He did notice that everyone was staring at Cassie's back.
Cassius didn't blame them, he didn't know the full extent of her scar either when it was first mentioned so he covered it for her with his arm.
She may not mind the stares, but he most definitely did.
The dance ended sooner than he would have liked, but when Cassie pulled away from him her eyes had started to red from being tired.
"I'm glad this is over. I want to go to bed." Cassie yawned as Cassius put a hand on her back and led her out of the Great Hall.
"You are looking a little sleepy." He chuckled.
She rubbed her eyes and grinned sheepishly at him.
Cassius couldn't resist leaning down and placing a kiss on her lips.
"You are so beautiful." He whispered into her ears.
Cassie grinned up at him.
"You're really handsome by the way. I'm sorry I didn't say so sooner." She told him.
"Don't worry about it. You can tell me I'm handsome tomorrow."
Cassie laughed as he walked her to her friends.
"Oh good, Potter." I greeted him.
Cassie turned to see her friends in front of her.
"Warrington." Harry greeted the older boy back.
Draco looked at Cassie.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. It was Christensen again." Cassie answered.
Draco rolled his eyes, "I don't know what she has against you."
"That's okay." Cassie said.
"Potter, have you figured out the egg yet?" Cassius asked.
"Of course he has." Ron was quick to snap.
Cassius looked at Cassie.
"He hasn't. Ron's just feeling threatened that Hermione and I went with people to the ball that weren't Gryffindors." I answered bluntly.
Ron flushed at what I said.
"Listen, Potter, I owe you for telling me about the dragons. Just put the egg under water and listen to it." Cassius said.
"What?" Harry asked.
"Put the egg under water and listen to it," Cassius repeated himself. "Take it to the Prefect's bath. It's the fourth door to the left of the statue of Boris the Bewildered on the fifth floor. The password is 'Pine Fresh'. And stick the egg under the water."
"Seriously?" Draco asked Cassie, his eyes wide.
"Cassius and I haven't talked about Harry. I didn't know he figured out the egg." Cassie told the group.
Ron glared at Cassius but kept his mouth shut.
"Er - thanks, I guess?" Harry looked between Ron and Draco.
Cassius decided that that was a good moment to leave Cassie at the stairs.
"Goodnight, Cassie." He kissed her cheek.
"Goodnight, Cassius." She smiled up at him.
Her eyes slowly blinked and Cassius knew she would pass out by the time she got to bed.
He had to fight the urge to take her to his room and sleep next to her, so he walked just a bit faster so that he didn't get in trouble with his head of house, and fellow Slytherins.
Cassius made sure to keep his distance from Cassie. He would still look for her and acknowledge her, but he wanted Cassie to be able to realize that she can start going to him as well.
And that didn't happen until the second day after term started.
"Can you help me in the library? I have a Charms essay to do and Hermione would usually help me but she's got plans with Viktor." Cassie asked him at lunch.
"Sure, I have a free period." He nodded, eager to get some time with her.
"Thank you." She kissed his cheek and ran to sit with her friends.
"Can you help me in the library?" Christensen immediately mocked her.
"Beth." Dean was sharp with her.
"What? Her voice is annoying." Christensen said.
"She hasn't done anything to you, stop it." Dean said.
Christensen mumbled something under her breath, but Cassius didn't catch it.
"How are you doing?" Cassius gestured to Cassie's arm.
"Better now that I can cover it." She answered, taking a moment to rest her hand.
She was writing down things for her essay while Cassius had his own Charms homework out.
Cassie wouldn't be able to help him, but there wasn't a better time than doing the same homework as her.
"How are you doing? Have you figured out that egg?" She asked him.
He nodded, then said gently, "I don't want to talk about it, not because I don't trust you. It's just that it's not fair if Potter and I start working together and the other two Champions are left on their own."
"I - I didn't think of it like that." Cassie admitted.
"I do have a question for you." He reached for her hand and started to massage her wrist, remembering the pain he got from holding the quill for so long.
"What is it?" Cassie asked, clearly enjoying the massage.
"Will you go to Hogsmeade with me? I know it's not for several more weeks." He asked her.
"I would like that, actually." She grinned at him.
Cassius couldn't stop the grin on his face.
"Great!"
Over the next few nights, Cassius found himself writing to his mom and dad, but not knowing if he could send it or not.
'Dear mum and dad,
I have fallen head over heels for Cassie. As I have gotten to spend more time with her, I have come to realize that there's something special about her. Not just her Seer abilities. But something really special about her…
I don't know if I can go through with the Dark Lord's plan. Cassie has been trying to unite the houses together and she's pointed out some amazing things.
Everyone is happier without the Dark Lord. No one is living in fear, they're not being cursed, blackmailed, or killed for their beliefs.
I just don't know if I can be on your side anymore…'
He wanted to write more, but instead, he threw it into the fire so that none of his fellow Slytherins could see what he had been up to.
So just an announcement. I miscalculated how long this will actually take me so I'm changing update dates to Saturday's. That way I can make the chapters longer and with my job now starting I'll be able to focus more during my free time rather than feeling rushed.
