Chapter 13

Cassius was in the library, looking for Cassie.

She had been in the library for the last couple of days, looking up how to help Potter with the second task. He noticed what books she was looking up. Subjects about items and spells on how to breathe underwater.

"Warrington!"

He looked up.

A fifth year had risked being yelled at by Madam Pince.

"What is it?" He asked.

"Zwart's heading to the hospital wing. One of the Weasley twins has her." The fifth year said.

Cassius didn't say anything.

He left the books where they were and rushed through all the shortcuts he knew to get to the Hospital Wing.

"Warrington!" A voice called.

"Heading to the Hospital Wing!" He called back.

"Where is she?!" He asked when he got in the Wing.

"Cassius." Hermione Granger got to him first.

He looked down at her in surprise, confused with the way she used his first name.

"She's fine. She's changing into warm clothes and Madam Pomfrey will take very good care of her." Hermione explained.

"What was she doing in the first place?" He asked Hermione.

"I think she'll be able to answer that better." Hermione answered.

Cassius walked over to stand next to Harry.

Madam Pomfrey finally moved the screen and Cassie was grinning sheepishly already.

"What were you thinking?" Cassius asked, immediately going to her side.

"I was experimenting." She answered as he pulled the blankets over her.

She snuggled into the blankets, shivering a little bit.

"Come here." He sat down next to her and pulled her into his side.

She curled up and sighed from the warmth he offered.

Cassie had to let out another cough and was forced to sit up

"Drink some of this." Madam Pomfrey was ready with a potion for her.

Cassius put his hand on her back.

"Why would you try again?" Madam Pomfrey asked Cassie.

'Try again?' Cassius thought to himself.

"Someone asked me if I could breathe underwater, being a metamorphmagus. And I wanted to see if I could. But if I am able to eventually breathe underwater I'll have to practice every day to do so." She answered.

"Trying to breathe underwater." Cassius grumbled under his breath and pulled Cassie close to him again.

He felt the Weasley twins glaring at him.

"I don't think you should be practicing in the winter. Once spring comes around and the weather is warmer you can try again." Madam Pomfrey tutted.

"Yes Madam." Cassie nodded, a sheepish grin on her face.

Madam Pomfrey muttered under her breath.

"Ten minutes and then you all have to go back to your common rooms!" She called over her shoulder.

"Yes Madam." Cassius in unison with everyone.

"I think we'll head back sooner." Hermione pulled Harry and Ron with her out of the Hospital Wing.

"I'll see you guys tomorrow!" Cassie waved to them.

"Good night, Cassie!" Ron said as they walked out.

"I better head back as well. Good night, Cas." Draco waved.

"Good night, Draco." She waved.

Cassius nodded to the boy.

George and Fred were both glaring at Cassius, who was returning their glare with a cool stare.

"You guys should probably get going too." Cassie said.

"We can wait." George spoke up.

"I insist." Cassie's voice was firm.

George visibly flinched.

"Are you sure?" Fred asked.

"Go away you two." She told them.

Fred nodded and pulled his twin out of the room.

"They're protective of you." Cassius said when they had left.

"Too protective. I don't understand why. Their mother hates me because of who my father is." She said as she snuggled into his side.

His heart skipped a beat and he could feel his chest glowing with pleasure of how close she was.

"Does she really?" His voice was soft as his grip tightened.

"Yeah, a complete one eighty turn as soon as the Ministry got word of my full parentage." She said.

"That's awful." He murmured.

"It's whatever, she'll change her mind again. But I won't be so forgiving." She shrugged.

He nodded.

After a minute of silence he asked, "so, can you tell me why you took a swim in the Black Lake?"

"Harry finally figured out the clue. Since he's only a fourth year, he's got a limited amount of knowledge and resources. We figured if I could learn how to breathe underwater, he could do it too. Hermione caught onto what I was trying to say so that's why she took the boys away." She explained.

'The Metamorphmagus Magiga's potion!'

"What is it?" She asked him after Cassius didn't respond.

"I didn't even think about the Metamorphmagus Magiga's potion." He answered.

Cassie let out a giggle.

"But if you can't get breathing under water on the first try, then I don't think I'll be able to get it on the first time either." He finished.

He moved his arm up and down on her side.

"You can still try. Unless you already have an idea of what you're going to do." She told him.

He flushed.

"We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." Cassie said quickly.

He nodded, still unsure of what to say exactly.

"You didn't seem surprised to see me?" Cassius finally asked.

"When Fred was carrying me here, a few of your housemates saw me and I knew they were going to you." She answered.

"They weren't discreet, were they?" He chuckled.

"Not really," Cassie giggled.

Cassius leaned forward and gave her forehead a kiss.

"You're cute." He whispered when she saw her little grin.

"Thank you." She whispered back.

Cassius slowly leaned his head down, and she went to meet his lips but -

"Mr. Warrington! It's time for you to go!" Madam Pomfrey said from her office doorway.

He sighed as Cassie laughed.

"Yes ma'am!" He said and got out of the bed.

"Good night, Cassius." She told him.

"Good night, Cassie." He gave her a quick kiss on the lips and walked out of the Hospital Wing.
