Chapter 18

At dinner that night, Cassius barely ate.

He had an idea of what was to happen in the maze. It was the after part he was nervous for.

'I get to meet the Dark Lord tonight.'

'I'm going to betray Cassie.'

'I'm going to betray my parents.'

'Am I going to betray myself?' He thought to himself.

"Remember what I said, Cassius." Mother said, her voice soft in his ear.

Cassius looked at her.

"Whatever happens, I will support you." She whispered.

"Thanks mama." He whispered back and gave her cheek a kiss.

"Ladies and gentlemen, in five minutes' time, I will be asking you to make your way down to the Quidditch field for the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament. Will the champions please follow Mr. Bagman down to the stadium now." Dumbledore's voice echoed through the Great Hall.

"Good luck, my boy." Father stood up and shook Cassius's hand before giving him an out of character hug.

"I'm proud of you, son." Father whispered in his ear.

When Cassius was eight years old, he wanted to be just like his father.

Cassius nodded, a strange lump in his throat as he hugged Mother next.

"I will support you. Be strong." Mother whispered into his ear.

Cassius nodded to her as well and walked out of the Great Hall.

He couldn't risk looking at Cassie, or else he might break whatever resolve he had.

Father was strong, calm and friendly when he needed to be.

Cassius led the way to the maze, knowing that Krum, Delacour, and Potter were following him.

'I hope Cassie - No. Don't think about her right now.'

"Alright Champions. You will be heading into the maze based on your points. So Warrington and Potter will go in first, then Krum, and last but not least, Miss Delacour." Bagman explained.

Cassius nodded his understanding and shook out his shoulders, trying to loosen up the tension.

He couldn't even look at Potter.

His stomach felt like it was going to throw up what he had eaten. His heartbeat was starting to pick up its pace and his breathing was starting to get raspy.

Then the students started to fill the stands down below.

They waited only a few moments before Bagman enchanted his voice.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament is about to begin! Let me remind you how the points currently stand! Tied in first place, with eighty-five points each - Mr. Cassius Warrington and Mr. Harry Potter, both of Hogwarts School!"

The cheers and applause sent birds from the Forbidden Forest fluttering into the darkening sky.

"In second place, with eighty points - Mr. Viktor Krum, of Durmstrang Institute!"

More applause.

Cassius was relaxing a bit more, having to put on a front in front of everyone.

"And in third place - Miss Fleur Delacour, of Beauxbatons Academy!"

Cassius waved to the Hogwarts students, his eyes scanning the crowd for his parents and for Cassie.

Suddenly there was a flash of color in the corner of his.

He turned to see Gryffindor red changing to Slytherin green and he was able to find Cassie, and his parents.

'I should have kissed her before I got down here.' He thought to himself.

I know. This was a painfully short chapter. But don't worry. The next one might be too long.
