Calvin and Hobbes are not mine, just having fun that is all.

Summary:

Calvin Watterson had a great childhood, and now married he finds his children as amusing as he had been as a child. Even in a pandemic and the end of the world the Watterson twins are pure chaos and the world needs them.

So here I see Calvin not sitting in an office working but as someone who works with his hands. He owns a roofing company and lives in the house he grew up in that his parents gave him on agreement he would leave space for them to come visit. He married Susie and they have twins and they are now six years old.

December 2021:

The neighborhood had changed, homes that had looked one way when he was growing up were still much the same outside but inside most had been remodeled. They were older, far older than many as they had been built pre-war period, as in pre WWII. This meant larger yards, garages not attached to homes or added later. On a corner lot was a large home with attached garage and mother-in-law suite above. It was charming and quiet for now as most of the street was, a pandemic had come and yet children were outside, in their yards at least.

Here at the Watterson house two children were in the front yard, they had rosy cheeks and dark eyes, one was clad in a blue jacket and snow pants and boots, the other in yellow jacket and snow pants, these were Chuck and Sally. They had hand knitted caps, gloves and scarves in bright green and were building snowmen, snowwomen, monsters and the like. Inside the house a tall man with spiky blond hair was sipping coffee smirking at what his children were doing. By his side was his bride of many years Susie, she had long black hair that hung down to her waist and both were clad in jeans and homemade sweaters. Calvin's mom loved to knit and they loved to wear what she knitted.

"They are a blessing." Calvin said. "Think the neighbors are going to mind?"

"They can stuff it." Susie said, "I never thought we would ever have children and here they are, fifteen years married before we got them."

"I know, I am glad that Mrs. Wormwood even agreed to help teach them." Calvin said.

"What are they doing?" Mrs. Wormwood, a very old woman now said from the video chat, "let me see."

"Sure, glad you could talk with us." Calvin said turning the phone to show the two children, "cars are slowing down."

"They take after both of you." Mrs. Wormwood said, "you both were interesting to teach."

"Yes I found I do much better working at roofing, school was boring no offence! I am back at that, roofs need to be repaired and such." Calvin said "oh! One of my art projects sold too, so that helped."

While the adults spoke inside Chuck the boy and Sally the girl were having a heated argument with their stuffed animals. Chuck had inherited Hobbes and Sally Bun and now a lively argument was ongoing. Hobbes thought that they should not create a snowman eating an ice cream cone. Chuck thought it was a great idea. Sally was not sure and said so and Bun was agreeing with Chuck.

"So it's two to two." Sally said, "what now?"

"You guys can build what you want, I am going to make a snowman eating another one." Chuck said.

"Snowperson." Sally said, "it's nicer."

"I am a boy and build snowmen!" Chuck replied.

"You can't build that, you will get locked up and go viral so you can't do that!"

"Fine, then a dragon." Chuck said.

Chuck built the dragon and soon Sally joined him. It was a grand dragon and they were careful to not cover the sidewalk or driveway. They looked up to see the mailman (for he was a man) walking bundled to deliver the mail. He waved and walked on to the next house. The children finished their creation and stepped back, the sun was starting to set and they needed to get inside before it was dark. They came into a warm house where mugs of hot cocoa awaited them.

"Have fun?" Calvin asked.

"Yes but Hobbes was siding with Sally, he is suppose to be on my side!" Chuck said.

"Well I only meant that you can't do what Calvin did at your age, you will be treated to interesting things." Hobbes said.
"Agreed." Bun replied.

"Now you two should go get cleaned up, shower, I know how you both hate baths." Susie said. "And you Hobbes and Bun behave."

"Yes mom." Both said heading up to the stairs with their stuffed animals.

"I don't want them to grow up too fast." Calvin said.
"Who says we ever did?" Susie retorted, "you do roofing and sculpture and I get to make children's stuffed toys."

"True that, you both really do get to live your dreams." Mrs. Wormwood said, "now I sent some assignments for the children, they can complete them when they wish."

"Glad you are willing to help teach." Calvin said meaning it, "we were not sure we could do homeschool without your help."

"Well, I had a lot of help getting the program done, and glad to help." Mrs. Wormwood said. "See you tomorrow."

Due to the way things had been for a few years, Calvin and Susie felt that it was best to homeschool the children. They made sure they had socialization, they had Kung Fu classes and dance classes (yes Chuck did like dance) and art club. School was done at home and they were allowed to be kids as well, the Wattersons did not believe in lots of electronics and so the children did not have phones, tablets or much in the way of computer time. The house was filled with toys, Legos, building blocks, play dough, art supplies and of course imagination. Calvin winked at Hobbes not expecting anything back, but that was okay, imagination had got him this far. Bun as he was called now had been Mr. Bun but Sally liked Bun best was now patched and darned to perfection as was Hobbes.

"They sure have helped." Susie said, "having them has made life so complete."

"I know, never thought we would get this far, remember when we were kids?" Calvin said.

"Oh do I, you were a slimly sneaky gross boy." Susie said laughing, "good times."

"Good times indeed." Calvin replied smiling. "I'm so glad I have you."

"And I you, grow old with me?" Susie said.

"Well I can level up and gain years, but I don't want to grow up, not fully." Calvin said.

"Well that I can live with." Susie replied. "So level up with me?"

"Yes, that I can do." Calvin said grinning.

The next day was a day off for both adults and they got up early, very early before dawn. They used flashlights attached to their heads and took advantage of the new snow that had fallen the night before. Then they went back inside and Calvin made chocolate waffles with hot house strawberries while Susie made fresh whipped cream in the stand mixer. They were finishing up when the two children came down clad in jeans, boots and handmade sweaters. They grinned at seeing what was one the table and took a seat to enjoy the meal.

"It snowed." Calvin said with an innocent look on his face, "and it warmed up a tiny bit."

"That it did." Susie replied.

"We can go out after breakfast!" Chuck nearly shouted.

"Yay! More playing in snow!" Sally replied.

"After you help clean up after breakfast." Susie said, "only fair we made it you help clean up."

"Okay mom." Chuck said.

"If we do a really good job can we have tuna sandwiches for lunch?" Sally asked.

"We would have anyway." Calvin replied.

A hour later the children walked out the door and stopped dead in their tracks. At each corner of the front yard was a large fort, cars were slowing down and Calvin came out grinning. He walked to a fort and began to make snowballs. Chuck and Sally wasted no time in doing the same and soon a fine snowball fight was on. Sure there was a pandemic and the world was crazy, but here, for now Calvin felt like a six year old boy again as he battled his children in an epic snow fight. Life could not be any better at the moment.
