Chapter 4: Hospital Visit.

I rode off onto the street and luckily, it was only a minute-long drive to the hospital from Mission HQ.

I parked my scooter, and locked it, for safety measures, and went inside towards the main desk. A male nurse greeted me in a British accent (well, it's obvious I was in Barkingburg)

"Good evening fine gentleman! How may I help you?"

I replied in a similar accent (since I kinda like speaking in a British accent), "Good evening to you too, and I want to visit a patient who was recently admitted here."

"Alright!" The nurse said. "Please specify name and further details."

"Okay, umm... name: Skye. She's a pup. Breed: Cockapoo. Gender: female. Age: 7 years (or that's what I heard)."

"Okay, let's see here..." The nurse said before clacking away on the computer next to him. "Ah, here we go; patient's name: Skye, she's on room 509 on the 5th floor."

"Okay, thank you kind sir!" I said politely as I walked off.

"You're very welcome!" The nurse said before tending to another visitor.

I ascended from inside an elevator and reached the 5th floor. I carefully searched for room 509 and when I found it, knocked silently on the door.

"Come in please!" A familiar voice sounded from the other side. I turned the knob and the door creaked open...

I was greeted by a cold breeze from the air conditioner as I walked inside and closed the door.

The room was of average size and the hospital bed was on the other side of the room from the door. Chase was sitting on an upright recliner facing the TV.

The TV showed an all night marathon of "Apollo The Super Pup," but Chase didn't feel like watching.

"Hey Ryder," I began. "How's Skye?"

"The doctor said she had minor injuries and a slight concussion." Ryder stated. I had a panicked expression in my face.

"But she'll be fine in two days, and the concussion's not enough to cause amnesia." Ryder continued which helped me calm down.

Just then, Skye moaned softly and opened her eyes.

"R-Ryder?" Skye called out weakly. We both turned our heads towards her.

"Skye, I'm so glad you're okay!" Ryder cried out which caught Chase's attention.

"Ryder, who's he?" Skye said while facing me. I held back a confused expression.

"Skye, this is Paul." Ryder said, introducing me. "Paul's the one who rescued you from the crash!"

"Really? You said you were a friend!" Skye said with a smile.

"Yeah, I did!" I said, slightly ecstatic, with a chuckle.

"Skye! You're okay!" Chase exclaimed. "Thank goodness! You were so close to getting that gem back from the Duke!"

"Wait," I interrupted. "What gem? And the Duke from where exactly?!"

"Well," Chase explained. "Did you see that giant brown jet in the sky that time?" I nodded.

"Well, that's the Duke's jet. He's the Duke of Flappington and he stole something from the palace called the 'Gem of Barkingburg.' He combined it with the gem of Flappington and now, he's got the power to make things fly."

"What about the bird?" I asked.

"That bird was the Duke's eagle, Jean-Claude." Chase finished.

At that moment, something hit me. No, not physically, but emotionally. When Chase said the word, "eagle," something went on my mind, but didn't understand what it was.

But then, as I glanced at Skye in her hospital bed, I finally understood...

"Oh, Skye afraid of..." I didn't had the guts to say it out loud since I saw a little bit of fear in her eyes. I sighed.

"Don' t worry about it Paul." Ryder said.

"No!" Skye spoke up. "I got scared of Jean-Claude. That's why I turned."

"No, it's not your fault Skye!" I said reassuringly. "Everyone's scared of SOMETHING! Even the bravest people or pup."

"You're right! Thanks Paul!" Skye said happily.

Just then, Marshall came inside the room followed by the doctor.

"Hi guys, hi Paul!" Marshall greeted.

"I have some good news Ryder!" The doctor said in a British accent.

"Go ahead doc," said Ryder.

"Well," the doctor began. "Skye's injuries are only minor and her concussion won't last long. I say she'll be fit to fly in a day or two! I'll discharge her tomorrow!"

Hearing this, Skye's face lit up.

"Thank you doc!" Ryder said.

"Anytime!" The doc said as he left the room.

"Hear that Skye?" I asked ecstatically.

"Yup, I did!" Skye answered with a smile.

"So she'll only be staying here for one full night?" I asked Ryder.

"Yeah, she will!" Ryder said.

"Hey, umm..." I said. "I gotta get home now. Wait 'till my parents hear about this!" Saying this I waved goodbye and went out the door.
