Chapter 9: The End… Or Is It?
"Wha-What?!"
I slowly slipped into consciousness as I opened my eyes and looked around.
My canopy bubble was cracked, some buttons including the thrust lever and side stick were mishapened and the small screen was cracked.
"Gah, ow!" I exclaimed as I realized the seat was dislodged and dents were in the cockpit, causing some parts of my body to get stuck or impaled.
I kicked the cracked windscreen bubble, but I didn't notice the soft sound of jet engines, until...
Thud!
SMASH!
I smashed open the windscreen, but as I tried to get up, I felt stabs of pain all over my body.
I kept screaming in pain every time I tried to move my body. Well, what did you expect? I barely survived a darn plane crash!
I climbed out from the left side of my jet. As I landed hard on the ground with a thud, I looked around and saw that we crashed in a clearing in the forest.
I then looked behind me and saw my jet completely totaled.
And behind my jet was Skye's, which was facing the opposite direction from where my jet was facing. Her jet was equally damaged.
"Oh, for Pete's sake, it just got fixed! Thanks for nothin' Duke of Flappington!" I mumbled.
And that's when I heard screaming.
"Hey, stop! Ahh, no! Let me go!"
The cries came from the other side of the jets. I snuck my way to the other side and my heart dropped as I saw the Duke's jet in the distance.
I also saw the Duke and Jean-Claude fighting against Skye, who thankfully managed to escape the wreckage.
I gasped quietly as I saw the Duke pin her down hard on the ground, causing her to yelp. Jean-Claude took the opportunity to unzip Skye's pocket and take out the gem.
"No, stop! Ahh!" Skye exclaimed as Jean-Claude cawed in her face, causing her to scream.
"No, give back the gem Duke!" Skye exclaimed again.
"Nuh-uh, little pup. I certainly won't let you foil my plans again." The Duke replied. My heart sank deeper as the Duke immediately tied Skye's paws together and slowly let go of her.
"Grr, untie me right now! Or else!" Skye yelled.
"Or else what? If I keep you like this, you can't do anything at all. Even ruining my plans! Ahahahahahaha!" The Duke replied as he wiped a tear off his eye.
"Now, time to REALLY get rid of you!" The Duke added as he placed the gem back on the scepter and pointed it towards Skye.
"NO, NO!" Skye cried out as she helplessly squirmed around her spot. Tears now flooding her eyes.
I knew I had to act fast. I knew I had to save Skye. And with strong determination, I pulled out my launcher and set it on net ammo.
And I aimed for the target. Make that TWO targets!
"Good-bye flying pup, 'cause you'll be flying to space where you can't bother me!"
Ryder and the rest of the PAW Patrol were mere meters from the site when they were now seeing the entire scene.
"SKYE NO!" Chase cried out.
The gem was now glowing and getting brighter and brighter. The light reflected off Skye's watery eyes as her every breath stuttered.
"Good-bye PAW Patrol. I'm sorry!" Skye whispered. Thinking this was her last, she closed her eyes and curled up into a ball, hoping it would end soon. The Duke laughing evilly.
BANG! BANG!...
(Third-person)
Skye was panting, and now breathing heavily. She slowly opened her eyes, only to find herself still on solid ground, still tied up though.
She slowly looked around and saw Paul standing on the nose of his grounded aircraft, holding out his launcher.
She looked around again and saw the Duke and Jean-Claude trapped in nets, then looked up and saw everyone else hovering above.
She then saw Paul slowly limping towards him.
(First-person. Rewind a few seconds...)
I kept my aim at the Duke and his bird, even though I had already shot nets at them. As the nets wrapped around the Duke, his grip loosened at the scepter and slipped off his hands, way out of his reach.
I turned to look at Skye and she looked at me, breathing heavily. I saw also, the rest of the PAW Patrol hovering overhead.
Using the remaining strength I had, I limped my way towards Skye, and as I reached her, I knelt down and quickly untied her paws.
After undoing the last knot, her paws slipped off her bindings, and she went up to me and broke into tears.
"Shh, it's gonna be okay Skye. It's all. Gonna. Be. Okay!" I whispered gently as Skye kept crying in my arms.
And then... I fell limp to the ground, still awake, but became weak due to my injuries.
"P-Paul! I-I was so scared! What if you didn't make it in time!" Skye cried out.
"No, don't say that Skye. What matters is that you're safe, the Duke is subdued, and the day is saved. Thanks to you!" I replied weakly.
Then I took out my rosary again, still in one piece and whispered,
"Thank you Lord!"
"Hey, let me outa here!" The Duke cried out.
"If you had not tied Skye up in the first place and tried to send her up into space, then I'd let you go without a second thought." I replied, pulling Skye closer to me.
Meanwhile, everyone else had landed next to the eagle jet, including Ryder. They rushed to the scene where they saw the villain and his eagle subdued in nets and me and Skye on the ground.
"Paul! Skye!" Everyone called out as they ran to us.
"Skye, are you alright?!" Chase asked worriedly. However, Skye couldn't talk yet, because she was still sobbing a little.
"Skye's fine Chase. She was just a little shaken up back there." I replied for her.
"Well done Paul!" Said Ryder as he picked up the scepter and again, pulled out the gem from it.
"Thanks Ryder. Although I may need- GAH OW! AHH!" I exclaimed as several more stabs of pain shot my body.
"Marshall, get both Skye and Paul to the hospital, quick!" Ryder said.
"I'm on it Ryder. And ready for a ruff ruff rescue!" Marshall responded as he went on his jet and flew away.
Few minutes passed and Marshall comes back riding his ambulance. Ryder and everyone else helped me onto the stretcher, but Chase didn't help, because he was busy taking the Duke to his jet.
After I settled on on the stretcher, Ryder picked Skye up and set her down on my lap. And then, Marshall wheels us inside his ambulance, then speeds off the scene while Rocky and Rubble again, tows our damaged jets to Mission HQ.
