Chapter 10: Good News!

I wake up slowly and find myself in a hospital bed. Some parts of my body were covered in bandages, and I could feel the throbbing pain in each bandaged area. I sat up on my bed, and I saw Ryder and everyone else sitting on the sofa.

"Ryder? Pups?" I called out softly. They turned to me and gasped.

"Paul!" They exclaimed, running towards me.

"How are you?" Asked Chase.

"Does it still hurt?" Asked Rubble

"Are you gonna be okay?" Asked Zuma.

"I'm fine pups! Just please gimme some space!" I replied, patting Rocky's head. All giggled as they backed off a little.

I looked to my right and saw another bed with Skye laying down on it.

"How's Skye Ryder?" I asked him.

"Well, I'm afraid this crash gave her a more severe concussion. And that fight with the Duke left her with sprains all over."

"Yikes! Wait, speaking of the Duke, what happened to him now?"

Well, I took him to jail, that's for sure!" Chase replied.

Just then, we all heard a soft moan coming from Skye.

She slowly began to wake up.

"Skye!" We all exclaimed.

"R-Ryder? Paul? Pups?!" She exclaimed.

"Skye, are you doing good!" I asked her.

"Still no. I still can't get over what just happened."

Then, I took out the rosary again, which was on the side table, and set it down on her bed.

"Don't worry my flying friend. God will never allow you to be sent out to space." I said softly, winking at her. She smiled.

"Thanks Paul!"

"You're welcome Skye. And if you're ever in trouble, just yelp for help!"

"I couldn't have said it better myself!" Ryder said. We all laughed in response.

For the next few weeks, Ryder and the pups have been visiting us when they could, and me and Skye were being treated of our injuries.

The days felt like months as I was just lying on my bed all day, but sometimes, I took the time to give Skye her basic needs and mine.

And often sat on a wheelchair, roaming around the room, looking out the window, seeing all of Barkingburg and the castle, watching T.V.

It felt like an endless cycle! But fortunately, as the days progressed, I felt lesser pain coming from the bandaged parts of my body.

4 weeks later...

I woke up again. Our nurse, Mrs. Mills was prepping our breakfast, so she wasn't here.

I was feeling as fit as a fiddle as I sat up on the edge of my bed, patting the still sleeping Cockapoo from the other bed. I saw that almost all the bandages were now gone from my body.

As I vigorously moved my body to see if I was doing fine, I still felt some pain and yelped loud enough to wake Skye up.

"*yawns* What's happening Paul?!"

"Heh, nothing Skye. Just starting to feel okay now, that's all."

"Oh, that's pawsome! And hey, my head doesn't hurt anymore!"

"That's good news!" I said happily.

Then, I heard a knock on the door.

"Yeah? Come in!" I said. The door opened and the nurse came inside with a tray.

"Breakfast is ready!" She said in a sing-song tone.

"Great! Thanks Mrs. Mills" I said.

Mrs. Mills wheeled the table to the space between the beds and placed the tray there. I had eggs and bacon, pretty simple. And Skye had her bowl full of dog food.

We both ate our breakfast slowly. As I was eating, I turned to Mrs. Mills, who was sitting in a chair next to Skye's bed.

"Hey Mrs. Mills, aren't you gonna have breakfast?" I asked her.

"Well, I just ate before I got yours." Mrs. Mills replied.

"Well, that's good! You must be a really hard worker."

"Yeah, I always love taking care of patients, wether person or pup." She replied, scratching Skye's neck. Which, in term, caused her to stomp her left hind paw vigorously in response.

And then, another knock came from the door.

"Come in dearies!" Mrs. Mills responded. What Mrs. Mills saw at the door when it opened left her with a shock of her life.

It was the Princess of Barkingburg and the Earl!

"Good day to you Mrs. Mills." She said politely.

"Y-Your highness! What brings you here?" Mrs. Mills said, stammering a little from the shock.

"I'm here to see Skye from the PAW Patrol, and the other kid."

"That's me!" I said. "Pleasure to meet you your highness!"

"Pleasure to meet you too Paul. I heard all about the rescue and your big save!"

"Actually your highness, you should thank Skye! She was brave enough to sneak inside the Duke's jet to get the gem of Barkingburg back."

"Is that so? Very well. A million thanks to you Skye." The Princess told her.

But Skye was still eating at that moment. She looked up at the Princess, her mouth stuffed with food. The Princess laughed at this.

"I have a surprise for you both!" The Princess said gleefully. Just then, the doctor came inside with Ryder.

"Yep! You will be discharged after lunch!" The doctor finished.

"What?!" Both me and Skye exclaimed. "That's great!"

"Well, what do you say we celebrate this amazing rescue in the palace!" The Earl suggested.

"That's a great idea your Earlness!" Said Ryder.

And with that, we all cheered as me and Skye just finished breakfast.
