Elena sits up with a gasp, her heart racing, her mind whirling.

"Elena," a familiar voice calls her name, and then there are hands on her shoulders, shaking her lightly, grounding her in the here and now. "Elena!"

She focuses, and it's Bonnie in front of her.

Of course it's Bonnie.

Because Bonnie did a spell.

A spell to see ipossibilities/i.

A spell meant to help them figure out a way to save Stefan from Klaus.

Except… the spell didn't work the way they discussed; it didn't show her what they thought it was going to show her.

"Are you okay?" her friend asks, and Elena nods, everything she saw and felt and iexperienced/i still flashing through her mind. "Can you say something? You're worrying me," Bonnie tells her, concern written upon her pretty features.

"It didn't work," Elena murmurs, unable to say much more than that. She's still trying to catch her breath, to make sense of… ieverything/i.

Bonnie sighs, pulling her into a hug. Elena hugs her back.

They were familiar faces in Elena's visions: Elijah, and Klaus, and Damon, and Matt, and so many others.

There were also people that Elena has never met.

Rebekah.

iKol/i.

But while she was in the middle of the spell, it was like she iwas/i those other Elenas.

She felt everything they felt.

She knew everything they knew.

She remembered everything they remembered.

"What did you see?" Bonnie asks her.

Elena thinks for a few moments.

"A million might have beens," she whispers, because she can't ignore Bonnie's question, but she doesn't have it in her to be more specific.

The visions are still fresh - iraw/i. She doesn't particularly feel like sharing the details.

Not even with Bonnie.

Bonnie opens Emily's grimoire, and flips through the pages. She frowns, as she reads a section to herself.

"The spell isn't supposed to show you what might have been," Bonnie tells her. "But… what might be."

Elena thinks about her visions. About everything she saw. About everything that might be.

So many potential futures.

In some, Jeremy was dead. In others, he was alive.

The same for her friends.

Elena was most often human; but sometimes, she was a vampire.

In some futures, Elena was with Elijah. In others, with Klaus. Or Kol. Or Rebekah.

In a few, both Elijah iand/i Klaus.

And Elena… Elena still feels everything those other Elena felt, still knows everything they knew, still remembers everything they remembered.

With all this knowledge, all these memories – can she ichoose/i which future comes to be?

And if so…

Which future does she choose?
