Author's Notes: Thank you for all the reviews and feedback.

In my opinion the worst casting job of all time was casting Leslie Howard as Ashley Wilkes. Howard was forty-six years old, and he was trying to portray a man in his twenties. To make matters worse Howard was balding and had to wear a toupee. To me there were so many better choices Gary Cooper, Errol Flynn, and even Lawrence Olivier. Personally, my favorite would have been Errol Flynn. He had those perfect features that a fourteen-year-old girl would have fallen in love with. But Selznick wanted Howard and no one else. In fact, Howard didn't even have to test for the part. I think that it was because at the time Howard was a big box-office draw and a movie idol and Selznick wanted him in the movie to guarantee the movies success.

I have been quite surprised at the number of people who were unhappy that I made Scarlett barren. I won't do it again. I promise.

This is the last chapter. It was a very short fanfic

Chapter Four

1903 - Thirty Years after leaving Atlanta

Rhett and Scarlett were in their home in Boston. They had returned from Sydney about eight years ago. They had spent a year living in Hawaii. While there Scarlett had turned fifty. Rhett knew that Scarlett would not want a big celebration for her fiftieth birthday or any birthday for that matter. Therefore, he had simply taken her out to supper at her favorite restaurant in Honolulu.

Over supper, she said to Rhett, "I want to get a college degree."

As Scarlett expected Rhett had burst out laughing. She didn't know what he was laughing about but it was either that at fifty she wanted to get a degree or that Scarlett O'Hara, southern belle, wanted to get a degree.

When Rhett finally sobered, he said, "If that is what you want then I will find a school for you to attend."

A month later Rhett said, "Most of the schools that accept women are in the South," With Scarlett's shake of her head, he went on. "Harvard has started accepting women sort of. They have created a college called Harvard Annex. We will move to Cambridge, and I will get you admitted."

"Thank you. You could attend Harvard University."

"I think I might."

Five years later they both had college degrees. Scarlett was so enormously proud of them. Rhett was extremely proud of her although as typical of his life he was prouder of himself.

April 15, 1912 – Thirty-eight and a half years after leaving Atlanta.

It was Rhett and Scarlett's anniversary. They had been married forty-four years. They would not make forty-five. As Scarlett danced with her husband, she was grateful that he had lived so long. She was grateful that he had taken one more chance on them. They had a good life since they had left Atlanta. Yes, she had regrets and she knew that Rhett did too, but they couldn't go back. They couldn't change anything. In his later years Rhett had developed a snore. Scarlett didn't mind at all. It was a lullaby to her. As long as she heard that noise, she knew her Rhett was alive.

They were returning to New York after having spent some time in Europe. Rhett had managed to get them a cabin on the Titanic. It had been difficult because anyone who was anybody had wanted to sail on the maiden voyage.

Scarlett, even after all these years of living in luxury, had been awed by the interior design of the ship. She had marveled at the opulence and extravagance of the décor. In truth, Rhett was a little bit in awe also. The first-class accommodations were the pinnacle of comfort and luxury. The food had been so good that even Rhett had commented on its taste.

As they boarded the ship, Rhett said, "I think I see Astor up ahead. We will have to have supper with them one night."

"Of course. Madeleine is such a delight to talk to."

On the fourth night of the voyage, Rhett had been playing poker when he felt the ship hit the iceberg. Being a sailor, when he felt the ship jerk, he knew what had happened. He knew that the ship builders had cursed the Titanic by saying it was unsinkable. He gathered up his money, not that it mattered any more, and went to get Scarlett. He would get her dressed and into a lifeboat.

Rhett had gotten Scarlett dressed which included her fur coat. By the time he got her up to the deck they were launching the lifeboats. Scarlett had her jewelry trunk with her. Rhett escorted her to the lifeboat. Scarlett was in the lifeboat when she realized that Rhett was not joining her. She immediately climbed back out despite the fact that Rhett and the deckhand had tried to force her back in. For such a small woman she could be ferocious when she was determined. She had dropped her jewelry trunk in the process. She had not cared. She had lost her coat in the scuffle. She hadn't cared about that either.

Rhett had said, "Damn it, Scarlett! Get in the lifeboat."

"No!"

Once Scarlett was on the deck she had run to the center of the ship. Far away from the lifeboats. Rhett had joined her, and he had tried to coax her into the lifeboat by saying, "They are taking women and children first. I will get on a later lifeboat."

"I will get on that one too."

"Honey.."

"No, Rhett. You are the only person I love in the entire world. I don't want to live if you are gone. I have always dreaded the day that you left me. I have never figured out what I would do without you. Now I don't need to worry. We will leave this world together. Just like we left Atlanta together and started a new life. Besides what would I do without you to take care of everything for me?"

Rhett smiled and said, "Selfish until the end."

Scarlett smiled back and said, "Of course."

Rhett looked at Scarlett and he knew by the set of her jaw that he wasn't going to be able to convince her to get in the lifeboat without him. Scarlett looked at Rhett and she saw the tears in his eyes. At last, he said, "Shall we dance until it is time to get in the lifeboat?"

"I would love to Mr. Butler."

As the band played on, the Butlers danced.

Rhett said, "We might as well hedge our bets and asked the Lord for forgiveness of our sins."

"What does that mean? To hedge one's bets."

"It means to prevent great loss in case things don't turn out the way we plan."

"Like you don't think there really is a God."

"Surprisingly, Baby, the closer I get to crossing over to the other side the more inclined I am to believe that there is a God."

"I want to see our children again too."

Together they asked the Lord to forgive them of all of their sins. Rhett and Scarlett danced. Rhett slid his hand across Scarlett's behind and she smiled up at him. Scarlett knew he would always be that roguish man that didn't obey the rules. She would not want anything else.

Rhett whispered, "Still as firm as ever."

Scarlett knew Rhett was flattering her, but the words still pleased her. She stopped dancing and said, "I would have been lost if you had left me in Atlanta.

"I have never regretted taking you with me."

"I love you, Rhett."

"I know, Darling. You would have to love me to be willing to die with me."

"Rhett, you are all I have. You are all I have had for almost forty years."

"Except for the short time we had Bonnie and the baby, you are all I have had in over sixty years. Let's go back to our cabin. I will make love to you one more time."

Scarlett laughed. She said, "We haven't been able to do that in so many years."

"Just because my equipment doesn't work, doesn't mean I can't make love to you."

"Just hold me until the end."

"That is what I planned to do. The end will be easier in our cabin. Let's go"

"Alright."

Rhett smiled at the utter faith his wife had in him. Still had in him. He cherished it and he always had. He hoped there was a life after this one, but he had almost heaven on earth for the last almost forty years.

In their final moments Rhett was holding Scarlett's hand just as he had when they had left Atlanta all those years ago. They were about to start their next adventure, hopefully.

As they laid in their bed, Scarlett said, "Our paintings are going to be lost."

"No, we are taking them with us."

"Of course, Love. Just as we are taking all Bonnie's memorabilia with us also."

"It would not be important to anyone but us."

"I guess you are right."

Rhett and Scarlett started talking about Bonnie and her short life. They talked about where their children would be now if they had lived. What their grandchildren would have been like? They talked about whether they thought they would have had great grandchildren. It was something they had done many times before. As always, their children, grandchildren, and possibly great grandchildren would be living fabulous lives.

Rhett and Scarlett were lying in their bed still talking when the ship broke in half. They were dead before they knew they were dying. However, they were in each other's arms in their final moments.

After Rhett and Scarlett's bodies were discovered, Rosemary and Suellen were notified because they had been named in Rhett's will. He had left each of them ten thousand dollars. It would be more than enough for them to live on the rest of their lives. Rhett knew that Scarlett would not have been happy that he gave her sister the money, but Rhett had done it because he felt sorry for Suellen. Suellen had the misfortune to have been born second to a much more attractive woman. A selfish, self-centered woman who had not cared about anyone else but herself for many years. Not until her world had collapsed.

The lawyers went through the process of closing the estate of Rhett and Scarlett Butler. They sold their homes in London and New York. Rhett had sold everything else. The lawyers had liquidated their assets. The lawyers were amused at how many green hats Mrs. Butler had owned. They would have been even more amused if they had known Rhett just couldn't help himself from buying them despite the fact that he knew Scarlett already had far too many green hats. The gift always made them both happily remember when he had given her the first green hat.

The lawyers distributed the money to charities named in the will. Scarlett would have laughed at Rhett if he had ever told her that a sizable amount of his money was going to Confederate Veterans. She would not have been surprised to learn that he left a sizable amount of money to widows and orphans.

Bridget O'Hara, her husband, and her son, Liam, had been on the Titanic. They had been going to start a new life in America. It was quite the gamble for them for they didn't know anyone in America. Bridget had been a wise young lady when she had been sitting on the lifeboat. While everyone else had been watching the woman climb out of the lifeboat while the man and the deckhand had been trying to force her back in the lifeboat, Bridget had picked up the lady's fur coat and small trunk. She had put the coat on and hid the trunk amongst her child's blankets.

Six months later, Bridget was living a comfortable life in New York. Bridget had lost her husband with the sinking of the Titanic, so the jewelry had been a God send to her and her children. She had taken a few of the pieces to different jewelers all over town and had soon found that there was a small fortune in the lady's small trunk. She would never have to remarry or work the rest of her life. She had not sold all the pieces. She would sell them as she needed more cash. She would never tell anyone about the jewelry and how she had acquired it. Bridget didn't consider that she had stolen the jewelry for in truth the woman had abandoned it. Besides where the woman was now, she certainly didn't need jewelry while Bridget certainly did need it.

Bridget had just had her second child which was a daughter. She had named the child Scarlett for she remembered the man calling the woman 'Scarlett.' Bridget was sorry the woman was dead she guessed, but that had been the woman's choice when she had gotten out of the lifeboat.

Scarlett Butler, indeed, did not need the jewelry now. If anyone had told Scarlett what had happened, she would have been proud of Bridget O'Hara for her fast thinking and her survival instincts. Scarlett would have been proud of Bridget for making the most of her opportunity.
