Chapter 30
Elphaba watched in the crystal ball as Fiyero and the Gale Force moved into what must have been the Munchkin camp blocking the Yellow Brick Road. She did not know the events leading up to what she watched, but she could see dead Munchkins and those that were wounded and being helped by the Gale Force medics. The green woman could not see the Munchkin President and she wondered if he'd escaped.
"I would imagine that Fiyero will be sending word back soon," Glinda said as the image faded.
"I would imagine so. They must have given him no choice. I only hope that there are not too many casualties," Elphaba frowned.
"Well, I suggest we eat some breakfast and wait for word. There is no point in attempting to make any sort of supply drop if Jinjuria has not been captured," the blonde pointed out.
"Yes, that would just help him resupply his followers. Besides, we need to get everything together anyway," Elphaba said.
"Lieutenant Bayram is working on that with our leftover troops. All we need to focus on right now is breakfast," Glinda told her. Elphaba nodded and they made their way down to the small dining room.
"Good morning, ladies. I have breakfast almost ready. The usual beverages?" Mr. Samuels asked as they entered the room.
"Yes please," the blonde smiled at him.
"Yes, thank you," Elphaba smiled slightly at the cook and he wondered what weighed on her mind. He, of course, didn't know what the troops were up to and was not privy to those details just yet. The two sat down and he disappeared back into the kitchen.
"How do you think we should do it?" Glinda asked her.
"Well combining our magic could be dangerous. Maybe it would be better if I could bolster your magic. We could use those bubbles you're so good at making," the green woman said.
"How would you do that?" Her friend wanted to know.
"There is an amplification spell that Morrible once mentioned, but in order to amplify the original spell, one must be powerful enough to project their magic into whatever is being created," Elphaba wasn't sure that it was as simple as she just said.
"Where would we find that amplify spell?" The blonde had not heard of it but then again, she doubted she would have been powerful enough to use it. Her guess was that the fish woman knew that Elphaba was more powerful than she.
"Given that Morrible couldn't read the Grimmerie, she probably kept something like that in her office," Elphaba figured as Mr. Samuels exited the kitchen with another man. They had breakfast ready along with their beverages.
"Master Amir, this is Lady Glinda and Miss Elphaba," the chef introduced the young man to them after they had set the trays down. He quickly bowed to them both.
"Nice to meet you, Amir. Are you training under our wonderful chef?" Glinda asked.
"Yes, ma'am. I am happy to have this opportunity," Amir smiled. He was tall and thin, but his uniform was cleaned and pressed.
"We are glad to have you," Elphaba smiled.
"He is being modest. Amir was the top student at Shiz's cooking school. He just arrived for his internship," Mr. Samuels spoke up.
"Then we are most lucky to have two of the best chefs in all of Oz working here at the Palace! I can't wait to see what is for lunch," Glinda winked at them. Mr. Samuels smiled and shooshed the young man back into the kitchen.
"So, after we have this wonderful meal, let's go dig up that spell," the blonde refocused the conversation.
"Good idea. I hope that we hear from Fiyero soon," Elphaba's worry was not well hidden. Glinda didn't say anything knowing that her friend would only feel better when he was back inside the Palace walls. What they didn't know was the Fiyero and his troops were on the trail of the Munchkin President and they were closing in fast.
