The Lion Princess
Chapter 5: Under the Sun
Athena and Simba were sitting together in one of the grass fields of Pride Rock, listening to Zazu.
"…the ears of the elephant have many blood vessels, which allow their bodies to cool."Zazu exclaimed. "Elephants have limited vision, but they smell and hear very well."
Simba laid down in boredom while Athena was fascinated by Zazu's theory about elephants.
"Keep it up, Zazu!"Simba retorted sarcastically. "It's so fascinating…Not!"
"Well, I find it interesting."Athena remarked.
"Thank you, Athena."Zazu replied. "But today your brother is having a private lesson, so I would kindly urge to go away."
Athena let out a sigh as she stood up.
"Fine."Athena grumbled.
"But I don't want to learn!"Simba complained. "It's boring!"
"Simba, you need to take your education seriously."Athena reminded. "That way you'll be a great king when you grow up."
"I don't want to grow up, Athena!"Simba retorted. "Grown-up lions are fat and lazy all the time!"
"Ha!"Athena laughed lightly. "You like being lazy already!"
Simba looked at Zazu.
"Say Zazu, why not teach Athena?"Simba suggested. "She would make a better king than me."
"Absolutely!"Athena agreed happily. "I want to be wise and not cocky like you!"
"She would be queen since she's a girl."Zazu declared with a frown. "But male lions are always the leaders."
Zazu glared at Simba as he flew above him.
"Shame on you, Simba! Only one animal has the chance to be king!"Zazu scowled. "Almost every animal is jealous of you, but you simply don't care!"
Simba ignored Zazu and turned his back on him.
"Bla, bla, bla…"Simba chanted.
"I've had enough for today!"Zazu retorted. "I hope you will do better tomorrow, Simba!"
Zazu flew away as Athena frowned at Simba.
"Simba. That wasn't very nice."Athena stated. "You made Zazu mad."
"Great, huh? Now we can do whatever we want."Simba remarked. "Come on, Athena."
Athena stood up and followed after Simba.
"But Zazu always says 'knowledge is power'."Athena exclaimed. "Without it, you won't be able to handle threats and-"
"Phooey!"Simba interrupted and then smiled proudly. "I'm more about practice! You learn by doing things in real life!"
Simba then notice Athena wasn't with him anymore.
"Athena?"Simba asked, looking around for his sister. "Where are yo-"
"ROAR!"
"Yikes!"Simba cried out.
Simba became frightened at seeing a figure wearing a skull face of a dead antelope behind a pile of bushes.
The figure laughed and removed the skull face, revealing herself to be Athena.
"Ha! Ha! You were scared out of your wits!"Athena laughed in delight. "It's just an old skull, see?"
Simba frowned as he recovered from his shock.
"I…I wasn't scared!"Simba stuttered. "I…uh…just did that to make it fun for you!"
Athena shook her head while placing the skull down on the ground.
"Sure."Athena replied smugly.
"Athena, your roar sounded very loud."Simba said. "How did you do that?"
"Through the hollow space."Athena answered, gesturing to the skull head. "Try it and learn, Mr Wise Guy."
Simba went behind the skull head to give out a roar.
"ROAR!"Simba roared out.
"Wow!"Athena chuckled. "Even a crocodile would be impressed by that!"
Simba then picked up a bunch of long grass with his mouth.
"I'd like to hunt down Zazu and scare him, but I already know what he'll exactly say to dad."Simba said.
Simba went on a small log and placed the long grass behind his tail to act out as Zazu.
"Your highness, your son will not take his education seriously!"Simba declared, mimicking Zazu. "My words fell on deaf ears!"
Athena hugged her sides and dropped on the ground as she laughed at her brother.
"Simba!"Athena giggled. "You're such a joker!"
Simba laughed lightly as he threw the grass away and went over to Athena.
"Heh-heh, don't forget Zazu. He's really the best teacher."Simba complemented and looked at the horizon of the savannah. "You know what, Athena?"
"What, Simba?"Athena asked.
"The savannah is so boring!"Simba stated. "I want excitement! Adventure!"
Simba went low on the ground, pretending to sneak around in the long grass.
"I want action! Danger!"Simba continued. "Impenetrable jungles to explore!"
Athena followed Simba from behind and the young prince went on a tree trunk that was bending.
"I want to go the highest mountains!"Simba remarked. "I'll climb Kilimanjaro!"
Suddenly the bending tree trunk snapped and Simba landed on a muddy puddle causing Athena to laugh again.
"Now I suddenly understand why fat male lions prefer to remain idle in the savannah!"Athena giggled.
Simba frowned. "Bah! That trunk was rotten!"
Athena helped Simba out of the mud before they went to a nearby water hole.
"Let him have it, Ma Tembo!"Athena insisted.
Ma Tembo (One of the young female elephants) used water pour water on Simba to wash away the mud that was covering him, leaving him wet.
Athena grinned. "Thank you!"
"You're welcome, Princess Athena."Ma Tembo replied.
Simba groaned as he shook himself a bit to become dry.
"You know you could've washed me yourself, Athena."Simba reminded.
"I know."Athena chuckled. "But this was more fun."
Athena and Simba later returned to where they were playing before, only to hear a voice cry out for help.
"Help!"
The royal siblings immediately realised the voice belonged to Zazu.
"That sounds like Zazu!"Athena gasped. "It sounds like he's in danger!"
"Nah, it can't be Zazu."Simba complemented. "His probably back home talking to dad."
"But dad is out in the savannah today."Athena reminded.
Simba and Athena followed Zazu's cries for help and they see him being attacked by three secretary birds.
"Oh no."Athena whispered.
"His being attacked."Simba retorted.
The three secretary birds surrounded Zazu, whose leg was stuck in a snare which meant he couldn't escape.
"Let me go!"Zazu protested. "Otherwise, I'll tell the king you were harassing his highly valued advisor!"
The three secretary birds burst out laughing at the hornbill's declaration.
"Ha!"the first secretary bird sneered. "You'll never speak to him anyway!"
"This is your last hour!"the second secretary bird cackled. "We'll munch you down to your last feather!"
Simba and Athena watched the scene from a cliff that was sort of high.
"Why doesn't he just fly away?"Simba asked.
"That's impossible."Athena responded. "His leg is stuck in a snare."
The three secretary birds began to tower over Zazu.
"Come on, guys!"the first secretary bird encouraged. "It's dinner time!"
"Help!"Zazu cried out.
Simba let out a low angry growl.
"What cowardly beasts!"Simba scowled. "I'll teach them!"
Athena immediately caught her younger brother by the tail to stop him from charging towards the three secretary birds.
"Hold on, Simba."Athena instructed. "We don't stand against those three big secretary birds. They're much stronger than us."
Simba looked down, realising he wasn't grown up to chase the three secretary birds away to save Zazu's life.
"You're right."Simba agreed and then a plan came into his mind. "Wait! I have an idea! Come on, Athena!"
"Huh?"Athena said in confusion.
Athena followed after Simba as the three secretary birds got ready to eat Zazu.
"You probably taste like chicken because you are certainly are chicken livered!"the second secretary bird laughed.
"ROAR!"
The three secretary birds got startled at hearing a loud but unrecognised roar and saw the figure of the voice approaching.
The 'creature' had a log body, a skull head of a dead animal and was covered in mud. Inside were Simba and Athena moving it.
"I'm the great crocobuffalion!"Simba called out from the skull's head. "I am going to take over Mufasa's kingdom! I can beat him with my eyes closed!"
"Don't overdo it, Simba!"Athena whispered.
"But first I'll devour you leggy bullies!"Simba announced. "I have quite an appetite!"
The three secretary birds immediately ran away from the 'crocobuffalion'.
"Let's get out of here, guys!"the first secretary bird panicked.
Zazu became scared as the 'crocobuffalion' approached him.
"Please! Spare me!"Zazu begged. "Have mercy! I can't fly and I'll do anything you say, sir!"
Simba and Athena got out from their costume to reveal themselves to Zazu.
"Don't be scared, Zazu."Simba responded. "It's just us."
"Simba!"Zazu said joyfully. "Athena!"
Athena removed the snare around Zazu's leg to free him.
"And a skull and a hollow."Athena joked.
"What do you know about the crocobuffalion, Zazu?"Simba asked.
"Not much, Simba. Very little."Zazu remarked as he flew up a bit. "But I do know something about you and Athena. You are both extremely brave and smart."
Simba and Athena share a smile with each other as Zazu lead them back home.
The scene then changed showing Simba and Athena sitting above Pride Rock, talking to each other.
I had a dream
Of the wide open praire
I had a dream
Of pale morning sky
Athena does a funny face causing Simba to laugh lightly.
I had a dream
That we flew on golden wings
And we were the same, just the same
You and I
Athena and Simba stared at the rising sun as its golden light shun on their eyes bit.
Follow your dreams
But always remember me
I am your brother
And under the sun
The scene later shows Athena and Simba running in the waterhole while making a couple of splashes in the process.
We are like birds of a feather
We are two hearts thrown together
Athena and Simba are then see running in a grass field.
Simba then tackles Athena, sending both of them down to a field covered by flowers.
We will be forever as one
My brother under the sun
Athena and Simba laughed together as they rolled in the grass together.
