"I want Isa and Lori to play with me, but they said they can't, because I'm a baby, not big like them." Luisa's small shoulders shook with quiet sobs. "I don't even have a Gift yet."

Bruno lowered himself to the floor to sit beside her, their shoulders touching. "You know… to your mamá and tía Pepa, I'm the baby."

Luisa's crying stopped. She peered up at him through her fingers. "…you are?"

He nodded vigorously, curls bouncing and making her giggle tearily. "Yep! And my big sisters sometimes didn't want to play with me either." Because he was a boy, not because he was the youngest, but that didn't seem worth mentioning. "But even when they didn't want to play, they still loved me, just like Isa and Lori love you."

Luisa's hands reached out to hug Bruno's arm as she thought on that. "So one day I'll be big like you, and then they'll play with me," she said consideringly. "But will you play with me now?"

She looked up at him with big eyes and he melted. "Of course, princesita. I'll always play with you, even when you're bigger than me."

Luisa giggled. "Silly tío! I can't be bigger than you!"

"No, I've seen the future, and future Luisa is very tall, as tall as this!" In one nimble movement, he scooped her off the ground and onto his shoulders. She shrieked with laughter, tears entirely forgotten as he carried her to the nursery for an afternoon of Princesses and Dragons.
