"You're everything to me"

The smallest smiles graced her face, he sensed a hint of sarcasm in her expression maybe even disbelief. It was a weird mix. Her hand was cold when he reached out and placed his on top of hers watching as her eyes fluttered down to their joined hands, the simple feeling of feeling his fingers link around hers provided an immense amount of safety. Her eyes caught his gaze and out of fear she closed her eyes.

"I'm scared and I'm tired Fletch" her voice was weak and her eyes were red from how worn out she was, he could just tell she was struggling, the simple gesture of their joined hands giving them both an immense amount of comfort

"Tell me what you need, I'm here"

The way he was brushing his thumb over the top of her hand, the way their eyes were connected and never leaving one another's gaze. It all seemed to hurt him deep down at the thought of her giving up but he could see the wavering tiredness in her eyes and the exhaustion in her body, the way she was actively deteriorating in front of his eyes, it all just cut him up inside.

"I'm dying and there's nothing anyone can do-"

"You dont know that Elliot...he'll find a way"

"It's impossible, Fletch"

Her eyes fall shut, the tears falling down her face so he gently gets up and sits on the edge of the bed, their hands still joined. Leaning forward he kissed her on the forehead and she tried her best to sit up so he gently helped her and held her close.

"Can you take me somewhere?"

"You're meant to be resting"

He whispers and she shrugs slightly before raising an eyebrow to challenge him, some things never changed. He huffed at her very modest persuasion tactics allowing him to sigh and shake his head in disbelief that she was still demanding things of him still.

"Here" he helps her put her coat on and then moves her to the wheelchair "We're going to have to keep this between us though"

"Well I can keep a secret if you can" her eyes meet his and he couldnt help but laugh slightly at their little deal and how the simplicity of it obviously meant a lot to her but him as well "I trust you"

It was those words that made a difference, somehow the situation they were in didnt seem as tainted as it did before. The way he pushed her through the ward until they got to the lift and went down to the ground floor. Somehow he just knew where to take her.

"Thank you" she whispers hoarsely as he sits on the bench, she pushes the footrests of the wheelchair away from her feet before standing up and stumbling so he takes hold of her

"I've got you, I'm here" he guides her onto the bench and she hums slightly unable to muster up the words to even speak about everything, maybe it was just too difficult to comprehend

Fletch put his arms around her shoulders, his hand on the side of her arm. Her head flops onto his shoulder and he kisses her on the head softly. Smiling at Jac taking his hand, he looked down at her and she was peering up at him before looking up to the pale moon and twinkling stars, he follows her gaze.

"What do you think it's like?"

"What?" he asks tearing his eyes away from the sky, he looks at her and she smiles at him slightly

"Death"

"Jac please dont go there, Elliot will find a way to save you"

She shakes her head and he notices her shiver slightly so he takes his jacket off and puts it across her legs to make sure she was warm enough.

"You need to accept it Fletch, please accept it" her voice was hoarse and he just shook his head stiffly at her words, this was something he never thought would happen, he never wanted it to happen but now it seemed inevitable and that fear was there not just for her but for him, the fear of losing her cut deep

"I dont want to lose you" he croaks, his hand brushing up and down her arm as a distraction, it wasnt really working so he had to turn to look at the sky again so she didn't see the obvious tears in his eyes

"I dont want to lose you either. I need to ask something of you, I know you're going to say no but please listen to me. I dont want any more treatment, Fletch, I can't have any more, I'm tired of it all and I just want to go on my terms, I dont want it to take any more of me"

"I understand, I just dont want you to give up, I just..."

"Look at me" she takes a couple of her fingers and guides his face away so he could look at her "Whatever happens, I'm going to get worse, I'm not going to get better and to have people see me deteriorate in front of their eyes it hurts me, I dont want the last memories of me to be those for the people I love. I need you there by my side, I'm scared Fletch and I'm not afraid to admit that now"

"I'll be there, you know I will" he looks at her, she seemed somewhat duller than before, less full of life and full of pain and her skin was tired and pale "We should get you indoors, it's freezing out here"

"No place for a dying woman eh?" she tries to joke and Fletch just shakes his head at her before helping her into the wheelchair again, he makes sure his jacket covers her legs but she just groans softly "Stop fussing Adrian"

Some things never really changed but there would be things that would be missed. His eyes were focused on the monitor watching the lines flicker up and down as she slept peacefully, holding on weakly to his hand. Elliot entered the room and smiled at him, he smiled back and then watched him leave soon after. He couldnt help the smile that crept onto his face when she woke.

"Hey," he says softly, he takes her hand and raises it to his lips causing her to smile "Are you in pain?"

"I dont know" she opens her eyes and he looks at her noticing she seemed rather uncomfortable so he gently pulls the covers over her more "Thanks"

"Elliot came in to check on you, he said everything looks fine"

"Fletch" she whispers brushing her thumb over his fingers whilst she holds his hand "You should go home"

"Dont push me away Jac, I'm staying here with you" he smiles and she closes her eyes tiredly, he gently reaches out to brush the back of his finger against her cheek "I'm not going anywhere"

"Thank you"

"What for?" he takes her hand and squeezes it, she gulps and closes her eyes and he looks at the monitor "Jac?"

"Tired" she mumbles and Fletch smiles slightly sitting on the edge of the bed, he places his hand on her side and she shifts over slightly and opens her eyes "Stay"

"I'm always going to stay, I'm going to be here forever" he assures her and she nods to the space beside her "I dont want to hurt you"

"I'm not an invalid" she retorts quietly and then closes her eyes, he gently curls up beside her and strokes her hair, his eyes on the monitor until the tiredness became overwhelming, he takes out the letter he wrote and places it on the side for when it should be needed

-CS-

"Hey"

He whispers into her head, he presses his lips against her head and she yawns tiredly before frowning slightly and blinking slowly as she takes in her surroundings.

"What's the time?"

"Late," he says quietly and she stretches her fingers gently before frowning and looking up at him, smiling slightly "I did this for you, all you need to do is sign it, I've also signed it for extra clarity"

"Thank you" she whispers taking the pen and signing the letter, she places it down on the side and he folds it over before rubbing his hands over his face

"Sacha was going to drop in and see you"

"Hmm" her eyes flutter shut again and he gently strokes her hair as she frowns softly "Are you ok?"

"Tired...and the rest" she hums against his side, he bends down and kisses her on the head gently as Sacha walks into the room, he smiles at the sight of both of them

"Hey" Sacha smiles and Jac frowns before opening her eyes briefly to look at him, she closes them again and continues to rest her head against Fletch "Now do you two need anything?"

"Emma" she mumbles and Fletch looks at Sacha who nods slowly looking at Fletch

"Do you want to see her?" Sacha asks sitting on the other side of the bed, he takes her hand and she opens her eyes to look at him

"Hm" she nods weakly and closes her eyes, she continues to lean against Fletch who was stroking her hair gently "Please"

"I'll see what I can do," Sacha says quietly and Jac hums looking at Fletch who was holding onto her hand, the other one brushing through her hair

"Jac?" he prompts and she just looks up at him tiredly, the tears prominent in her eyes and he just knew that she thought it was the beginning of the end "It's going to be ok, I'm here and I'm not going anywhere"

"I'm tired"

"I know you are"

"I'm exhausted"

"Jac" he whispers into her head before wiping her tears, she looks up at him and he couldnt help but let the tears fall as well "I'm here"

"I know"

"There's something I need to tell you" he tries to keep her awake, deep down inside he was scared in case he lost her and he didnt want that just yet with everything left unsaid between them

"I love you too" she looks up at him and he frowns taken aback by her telepathy "Say something then because either I've made a complete fool of myself-"

He presses a finger against her lips and smiles down at her, she looks at him and he leans forward to brush his lips against hers softly.

"Only if we made it that easy before"

"You and me, we could never do things easy" he counters and she laughs quietly, he takes her hand and places it over his heart "But...above everything else, what we have right now..."

"Don't Fletch" she whispers and shakes her head weakly "I'm so grateful that you're here, by my side, you help take that fear away just that bit more"

"I'm here, I'm not going anywhere"

-CS-

"Hey"

"Hi" Fletch looks up from where his eyes were on a sleeping Jac, every now and then he glanced at her monitor looking for any sign of deterioration "Did you ring Jonny?"

"Emma's here" Sacha smiles at him and Fletch breathes out noticing Jac was still sleeping so he gets up and leaves the room to follow him "How is she?"

"Exhausted, she's just so tired and...I dont know"

"She has people around her to help her come to terms with it all" Sacha says quietly and Fletch just closes his eyes before pausing and leaning against the wall, he runs a hand over his face

"Sacha"

"Mo? What are you doing here?" Sacha narrows his eyes before smiling down at Emma who was holding onto her hand

"We're here to see the patient" Mo smiles and Emma looks up at her before looking between Fletch and Sacha "So where is she?"

"How about we go and get a milkshake?" Sacha suggests taking Emma's hand and leading her towards the lift, he looks at Fletch and nods

"Has something happened?"

"She's asleep right now, but she's so tired and exhausted Mo, all this fight..." Fletch shakes his head and Mo nods as they walk towards where Jac was, he noticed she had her eyes open and she was looking to the door

"What are you doing here?" Jac frowns and Fletch just smiles at her as he enters the room with Mo

"I've got your daughter with me" Mo smiles and Jac hums slightly before turning her head as Mo sits down in the chair beside her, she didnt even have the energy to ask how

"I'll leave you to it" Fletch smiles planting a kiss on the top of Jac's head causing Mo to bite her lip and watch him leave

"You and Fletch?!"

"Don't start because it's not worth it" she mutters and Mo just raises her eyebrows at her "There's not really me and Fletch, it's just...a complicated friendship"

"Oh leave off, what was all that about!" Mo exclaims and Jac just groans in annoyance at her persistence "Anyway...I just wanted to say before you see Emma that everything's been explained to her and that she knows that..."

"You dont have to say the words" Jac whispers and stretches her fingers before frowning, Mo picks up her notes and sighs slightly "Incurable before you start looking for a cure"

"I just can't believe it" Mo shakes her head and takes Jac's hand "Enough of the depressing talk I say, I want details"

"About what?"

"You and Fletch" Mo smirks and Jac rolls her eyes, in a way she was thankful that she didnt have to talk about her impending death "Do you love him? He obviously loves you..."

"I know he loves me"

"But do you love him?" Mo counters and Jac smiles at Sacha standing there with Emma, he walks over holding her hand and Jac pats the bed beside her so Sacha helps Emma up onto the bed

"I'll leave you two to it" Mo winks at her and Jac just rolls her eyes, Sacha nods and leaves as well

"Are you sick?"

"Yeah, baby, I am" Jac brushes a strand of her hair behind her ear, Emma just glances downwards "I'm not going to get better though"

"Can't the doctors make you better?"

"They've tried but it's not working, there's nothing more they can do, it won't work anymore, I'm so sorry baby, for everything. I love you" Jac's tears fill with eyes, Emma immediately hugs her and Jac just kisses her on the head breathing in the scent of her hair, the innocence she created for the world to have

It was a sight he never thought he would see, Jac and Emma just sleeping together in the tiny single hospital bed just like he did moments prior with her, reunited in the most horrible and morbid way possible. He couldnt help but smile at them both curled up together, Jac's arm weakly draped around Emma's body as they slept. Something didnt exactly sit quite right, the way Jac's arm dropped from around Emma just as Mo entered the room and she immediately sensed the panic in Fletch's eyes and leant over to press a couple of fingers against Jac's neck, she shakes her head softly.

"Come on Emma" Mo suggests and Emma gets off the bed looking back at her mother with tears in her eyes, Elliot enters the room alongside Max "Come on, let's let the doctors look at mummy"

"Oh, Jac..." Fletch whispers and Max looks at Elliot "Don't leave me, please don't leave me, not now, please..."

"We're going to take her down for scans, find out what's happening as well as intubate her," Elliot says as Fletch grips onto Jac's hand before letting it slip out of his grip "We'll be back as soon as possible"

"Fletch," Mo says quietly from the door and he just shakes his head thankful that she took Emma away, she sighs slightly before watching him pick up the letter on the side, she takes it from him and reads it "Oh, Jac..."

"She's gone, it's all gone"

-CS-

She was so still, deathly still. Her skin was pale now all the tubes and wires had been removed. Fletch couldnt even comprehend the last few hours, minutes, seconds, it was all just a blur, if he was honest with himself he wasnt really sure what happened. But he was there, sitting beside her, his hand holding hers never wanting to leave her. It really did feel like it was one thing after another with them and now there was that feeling of it being so final there were no other words to describe it.

"Hey, you" he sniffles and takes her hand, raising it to his lips "How did we end up here then?"

He couldnt help but laugh somewhat bittersweetly at how they never really had a chance to fess up to the way they felt until the chance was snatched away from them.

"You're so special to me, you dont even realise it or maybe you do. But I'm never going to forget you, ever" he picks her hand up and places it on his heart, in a way he hoped it provided her with some comfort even if she was no longer here

He breathed out and began to sob when a stray tear fell on her pale skin, he used his spare hand to wipe the rest of them from his cheeks and eyes.

"We could have had the world, we could have had it all but that's life isnt it? Throws all sorts of nasty surprises at us and this is just one of them. I'm going to miss you" he shakes his head pressing his lips to her hand, he closes his eyes scrunching his face up as the emotional pain coursed through his body "So much, Jac, so much..."

How he wished things were different and how he wished she was still alive so they could have their chance to be happy and build a future out of love instead of it being based on pain. The right time always seemed to end in disaster but letting go of that was hard, he understood he had to though so gently, he placed her hand beside her body again and he willed for it to move, it didnt though. It hurt, she was gone and she was never coming back.

"Goodnight darlin'"

He leans over and kisses her cheek, proceeding to kiss her forehead. Gently he reached over and turned the last remaining monitor off. He choked out a sob, he couldnt control the overwhelming emotion anymore and just gripped onto her lifeless body, the tears soaking into her golden hair and pale, dull skin. Memories would have to do.
