A cool summer night breeze fluttered the curtains letting in the twinkle of streetlights and stars. It carried the smell of sweat and sex back out into the night, intertwining it with the other smells of the European night; the smells of a summer's end. In the room, lit by stars and smelling of intertwined bodies, lay a pair of lovers, tangled up in the after effects of a whirlwind summer.

"I don't want to go home," Matt sighed and stared up at the ceiling. His chin rested in Rebekah's hair and his fingers caressed the bare skin of her arm.

"Me neither," she murmured. Her head lay on his chest, her hand resting just above his heart. She glanced up at him, taking in every detail of his face. She wanted to remember these moments when she felt truly safe, secure, truly loved. These moments where nothing was expected of her and no one wanted something from her other than her presence. "I don't want this to end," she whispered.

"I know," he said. "But it has to."

"Does it really?" She asked, pouting slightly. Matt glanced down at her and laughed.

"Some of us have a job to get back to," he said. "Not everyone can just compel their way through life."

"You're no fun," she huffed.

"Besides we would never work out in the long run," he added, tenderly brushing her hair back from her face.

"I know," she said. Her gaze shifted away from his and towards the window. "You deserve someone normal. Someone who can give you a good life, with children and a family." Her tone grew solemn. She had been so close to having that opportunity for herself but it had slipped through her grasp along with the Cure. "You deserve to be happy."

"So do you," Matt said.

"You make me happy," she objected.

"For now," he said. "But you need someone who can make you happy forever. This was just a summer fling. You deserve a romance that will last a lifetime."

"That's a very long time for me," she said.

Matt laughed. "Believe me, I know." They both went quiet. Rebekah turned her gaze back to the window, watching the clear summer sky glittering over the city. She wondered if she'd always be doomed to whirlwind summers and the fated endings that came with them.

"I don't want this summer to end," she whispered. Matt grunted in agreement. But the end of summer breeze lulled them both to sleep.
