It wasn't going to be easy, especially not with how she was looking at him with those big green eyes. And how he noticed her eyes light up with joy every time she saw him.
Sonic gulped.
"What's wrong?" Amy asked, giving him the same concerned look she'd given him earlier.
"Amy, I, er. I need to tell you something." Sonic scratched his ear, desperately looking around for anything to distract himself with.
The two were sitting in the center of the biggest mall in the city, they'd just gotten done shopping for supplies for the get-together and were now taking a break. They were sitting on a fancy wooden bench, people walking and talking all around them, and a massive ornate fountain making white noise behind them. There were still Easter decorations up, even though it had been a month since the holiday. Sonic even swore he could see a Christmas tree in one of the departments on the upper floor, now that was hilarious.
"Sonic?" Amy pestered, giving him a little poke on the arm.
He'd stalled enough, he supposed. Well, might as well get it over with.
"Amy, are you happy with me?" Sonic asked.
"What? Of course I am! It's been my dream to be with you, ever since we were teenagers! I bet you remember how clingy and obsessive I was back then." She giggled nervously.
"You never felt pressured into pursuing me?"
"No, of course not! I mean, I know my tarot cards made me believe we were soul-mates or something, but those are just a hobby of mine! I don't actually believe they can tell the future, I haven't for years now," Amy bit her lip, her eyes glistening. "Sonic, what's this about? Please tell me what's wrong, I can help you!"
"Amy, I-"
Amy gasped, "Did you kiss Rouge!?"
"What, no!" Sonic cringed. "Amy-"
Amy clasped her hands to her mouth and whispered, "Did you kiss Shadow?" Her eyes shifted back and forth nervously.
"What!?" Now Sonic was just confused. "Amy, no, why do you think I kissed anyone?" His stomach tightened into knots, this was going to hurt like hell.
"Then what is it?" Amy looked like she was about to cry, but she was still able to keep her composure. She could tell that something was deeply wrong, a little voice in the back of her head was screaming danger, danger!
"Amy," Sonic took one last deep breath. "I'm breaking up with you."
It was like the world had slowed, Sonic's voice grew deep and stretched over the seconds and Amy's heart beat thudded in her chest. When he finally closed his mouth, she saw him give her a concerned expression. Slow was not something she ever expected to see on Sonic, but in that instant, as the whole world froze, it was like someone had overlaid a motion blur on him.
"A-Amy?" Sonic whispered, she was starting to scare him as she just sat there, staring into nothing.
Then she hiccupped.
Oh Chaos what have I done? Sonic's ears pulled back against his skull.
Amy hiccupped again, then she bawled her hands into fists and wiped her tears away. But no matter how many times she wiped, they just kept flowing, as if her eyes had turned into waterfalls.
"Amy, I'm sorry, please don't cry!" Sonic reached out to comfort her, but she scooted away from him.
Amy Rose gave Sonic a glare, as hot tears streamed down her cheeks, and Sonic felt his heart break.
"Okay," Amy sniffled. "That was random, but okay." She hiccupped again, then she stood and marched away from the bench.
"Amy, wait!" Sonic called, but Amy bolted off into a run before he could stand.
Damnit Sonic, you promised yourself that you'd never make a girl cry! Sonic facepalmed.
"What the fuck!?"
Sonic bolted up at the harsh voice, he spun around and winced as he saw Shadow lunging at him. Sonic couldn't get a word out before Shadow's fist made contact with his face, causing him to hit the ground and roll a few feet.
Sonic grit his teeth, then looked up at his attacker. "What was that for!?"
Shadow looked greatly offended. "Are you fucking kidding me, faker? You're more of a jerk than I am, I saw what you did!" He spat.
Sonic cringed. "Why do you care? You don't even like Amy!"
"Because I'm a gentleman, unlike you!" Shadow said as he marched past Sonic and after Amy.
Sonic groaned, he pulled himself to his feet and dusted himself off. His eyes landed on all of the bags that he and Amy had acquired while they were shopping, and he sighed.
