Chris entered Deacon's garden with a small, pleased smile. She settled back into her deck chair and tucked her knees into her hoodie. Annie and her husband had organized a barbecue with the whole team and the little party had lasted into the evening. They were currently in the garden, sitting in a circle on deckchairs. It was getting cooler and Chris had just put on a tank top and jean shorts. The warmth of the sweater was therefore welcome.

She listened to her colleagues talk while looking at the stars. She loved it and it relaxed her. When she was young, that's how she used to calm down when an anxiety attack was coming on. And this had often happened to her after her mother's death. She didn't pay attention to her friends' comings and goings, she just turned her wine glass in her hands and looked up. A few minutes later, the comfortable silence she had fallen into was broken by Street.

« That's my hoodie Chris. »

Chris looked down at him and shrugged, taking a sip of her wine. Their colleagues turned their heads towards the two friends. Indeed, the young woman was wearing a gray hoodie with red laces, on which was flocked by the logo of Ducati, the favorite motorcycle brand of Street. It seemed much too big for her but she found it warm and comfortable and that's all that mattered at the moment. Luca raised a questioning eyebrow, he may have known them for a long time, but he still didn't think they were that close. He shrugged and refocused on his discussion with Hondo. After all, what the two SWAT officers did or what relationship they had wasn't really his problem.

One morning at SWAT headquarters when Street wasn't there, sent on an undercover assignment, Hondo wanted to do something. He wanted to take Chris's mind off it. She was supposed to go with him but had not been able to go with him because of an injury during their last mission. Since then, they had no news of the young man or of the progress of the investigation. They had tried many times to get information from Hicks, but they had come to understand that he did not know any more than they did. He was concerned about his officer too.

So when they all met in the ring to train, Hondo decided to take matters into his own hands and organize a team outing to a bar. They all needed to get their minds off of this. He wouldn't take no for an answer. Luca was obviously on board, as was Tan, who was happy not to be alone while Bonnie worked. Deacon had finally agreed as well, understanding his colleague's approach. But the hardest to convince had been Chris. She didn't want to go out, she just wanted to go home.

He had been trying to convince her all morning. Chris had finally given in to the wear and tear of her boss and she had agreed to go out that evening, to the delight of all her colleagues. After all it could only do her good, she needed to take her mind off things.

They continued to work out while discussing what they were going to do that evening. Luca had suggested they all meet at his place, while Tan preferred to go out to a bar. Since then, they tried to give their best arguments while Chris watched them bicker with a slight smile.

« Are you planning to party without me? Not cool. »

Street's voice interrupted all conversations and silence took over as all eyes turned to him. He stood in front of them with a duffel bag in his hand and dark circles under his eyes, but he was still smiling. His trusty smirk. A few gashes crossed his face, but he didn't really look hurt. Luca was the first to react, stepping down from the ring and coming over to hug him.

« Street, you're finally back buddy ! »

« I'm glad to have you guys back, I missed you. » the young man smiled.

« You too. »

Luca pushed himself aside to let Hondo pass and he came to give Street a good handshake before pulling him into a hug. Deacon patted him on the shoulder with a big smile, which he responded to, and Tan came to hug him back. They were all happy to see their friend and colleague again. But most of all, it was Chris' smile that surprised the young officer. It was sincere.

Chris approached Street and quickly examined him, determining whether or not he was okay. Seeing that he was, she approached him and they exchanged a long hug before smiling at each other. Then Street's eyes became playful.

« That's my shirt Chris. »

His amused smile made the young woman roll her eyes as everyone observed the t-shirt in question. It was simple, basic, navy blue with the SWAT logo on the chest and sleeves. But when they looked closer, they could see the number 26 embroidered right underneath, on the heart.

« That's the first one I found. » she shrugged as she began to tap a punching bag.

« In my locker? »

They exchanged a look before smiling discreetly at each other. Tan leaned towards Luca who was to his right. The blonde watched him do so with a raised eyebrow.

« Is there something going on between them? » Tan asked in a whisper.

« It's none of our business. » replied the older man in the same tone, still a little curious about what he had just witnessed.

Tan raised his eyes to the sky before straightening up and taking off his boxing gloves. He then smiled as he re-entered the conversation of the rest of his friends, the latter asking Street questions about his mission.

Luca and Street wanted to do some work on their house. Again. They'd had a flood that had forced them to redo much of the living room and for that they needed experts. Chris offered to help, along with her uncle and cousin Tomas. That's why Street found himself barbecuing in his garden to feed the workers. Luca had been requisitioned to help, so he took the opportunity to go shopping and buy what was needed.

The good smell of grilled food attracted the workers, which made him smile. He offered them cold drinks while he finished cooking under the sun. The mood was light and they were all laughing together. He was chatting quietly with Luca when Chris appeared in front of them to bring them cold beers. They thanked her and she left with a smile. Only Luca noticed that Street was looking down on the young woman and raised an eyebrow. His friend stopped her in her tracks by calling out to her.

« Those are my shorts Chris! » he called out.

She was wearing a black Adidas short with white stripes on the sides. It's true that the blond had already seen his friend wearing them on many occasions, the last time going back to the week before when they were playing basketball with the neighborhood kids. Chris threw a sly smile to her friend before going to take place on one of the garden sofas.

« This is the only one I could find. »

« In my closet ? » he questioned as he flipped over some sausages.

She didn't bother to answer him and turned to her uncle and cousin to chat with them. Luca was still watching them. He was beginning to wonder if Tan was right about their two friends. He shook his head, it was really not the time to be asking such questions. It was none of his business anyway.

« It's ready Luca, are you coming to eat ? »

He nodded and joined his friends, who didn't wait long to start lunch. Work had given them an appetite and they were happy to be able to eat so well. They spent the rest of the afternoon working and laughing all together.

The whole team was in the lobby of a building, the one where the LAPD charity gala was going to be held. Hicks had forced them to show up. Orders from the LAPD captain. SWAT had to be there, and they were going to have to make eyes at the big shots in L.A. society in order to bring in the money. They were really not comfortable doing this, but they were going to do it for a good cause. And so Street found himself fidgeting around, uncomfortable in his suit.

« Take it easy kid, you're going to ruin your nice new suit. » said Hondo as he tied the bow tie around his neck.

« Suits aren't really my thing. » he explained. « Why do we have to wear this? In SWAT gear we would have been much more convincing. »

« Because the top brass decided it. »

« I think we look pretty good like this. » Tan admitted.

They were all standing in line, waiting for Chris to arrive. Hicks had given her a task a little after they arrived and that worried them a little.

« Do you think it's serious ? »

« I'd rather not think about it. » Hondo conceded. « Then if it is she'll tell us about it. »

« You're right. »

They heard heels clicking on the floor before Chris came into the living room. She was wearing an elegant black suit, the same kind she wore to Deacon and Annie's vow renewal. She had a small smile on her lips, which questioned them.

« There's nothing to talk about, guys. Let's go. »

She led the way and Street came to stand at her level to walk.

« You're very pretty. »

« You don't look bad either. » she nodded after glancing at her friend.

It had been an hour now since they were there. Luca had been cornered as soon as he arrived by a woman who hadn't stopped asking him questions since. He was far too polite to stop answering her and walk away. Deacon smiled politely as he shook the outstretched hands he was offered. It really wasn't his favorite pastime so he was just putting on a brave face. Street had exiled himself to the buffet so he wouldn't have to talk to anyone and was literally burying everything in front of his eyes, under the exasperated eye of his teammate and the mocking gaze of Tan. It was the only interesting occupation he had. Chris was standing not far from him, with a glass in her hand and scanning the room as if an enemy was hiding there. Finally Hondo was the only one who took the job seriously, without having any choice. He was questioned by everyone because of his position as team leader.

When the music of a slow dance started and the light dropped slightly, Luca gently refused the invitation of the woman under the laughter of Tan who had joined him. On the other hand, a rather attractive young man approached Chris with a charming smile on his lips, ready to invite her to dance. But it was without counting on Street who grabbed the hand of the beautiful brunette to attract it to him. The man left with a pout as the two officers headed to the dance floor.

« What are you doing ? »

« I'm asking you to dance. »

« I don't like to dance. » Chris countered.

« You love to dance. You just like doing it in front of anyone. »

« Except you. »

« Except me. » he smiled as he looked at her.

Chris put her left hand on Street's shoulder and the right one on his neck, playing with his hairline. The latter put both hands on his partner's hips and they began to move slowly to the rhythm of the music. It was totally out of their habit to do this; to expose themselves so much in front of the others. But tonight they were willing to take the risk. It was worth it.

After observing the scene, Luca turned his gaze to Tan and Tan made suggestive movements with his eyebrows. He sighed once more under his friend's hints and went to the buffet where Deacon Hondo had finally taken refuge to escape the incessant questions of people. Tan joined them a few seconds later.

Luca accepted the cheese puff pastry offered by the team leader and started to speak, but he was cut off by Street's voice not far from them. Indeed, the latter was still dancing with their colleague, but they had not mixed with the others, they remained in their bubble. A small smile appeared on the lips of the young man when he noticed a particular detail.

« This is my ring Chris. »

A mischievous smile stretched the young woman's lips as she nodded, biting her lip. Street tightened his grip on her hips to pull her closer to him.

« This is the only one I could find. »

« In my sock drawer ? »

She nodded again, smiling softly, her eyes linked with Street's. No one existed around them anymore.

« Exactly. »

The rest of their friends exchanged a puzzled look as they heard the conversation of their two colleagues. The young man's voice again cut through their thoughts.

« So ? » he questioned, looking her straight in the eye, both of them having stopped dancing.

Chris' gaze was just as intense.

« Yes. »

They exchanged beaming smiles as Street chastely kissed Chris in the middle of the crowd. The latter bit her lip as she came to play absentmindedly with the ring. No one was paying any attention to them. No one except their four other friends who were more than shocked by what had just happened. Luca had stopped halfway to his mouth as he was about to gulp down a puff pastry and Tan had simply spit his champagne back into his glass. The bartender glared at him.

« What just happened ? » the dark-haired man questioned, smiling at the bartender in apology.

« We just witnessed what I think ? » asked Hondo in turn.

« I... » was the only answer Deacon could give.

« They just got engaged. » Luca concluded, putting down his leaflet. « There, right in front of us. »

« No way ! See, I told you there was something going on between them ! » almost shouted Tan as he approached Luca.

« Good job Tan. » came the voice of Street behind them.

« They're going to pay for this. » the Asian muttered through his beard.

The reception venue was really well decorated. It was simple and beautiful, just like them. They had decided to do it outdoors and small. Only family and close friends were invited. They didn't need anything more, just to be surrounded by those they loved for one of the best days of their lives.

Street was nervous. His friends had tried to calm him down, but it hadn't worked. Only Luca had succeeded. But no one knew how. That's why he was standing at the altar with a huge smile on his face and his hands tied to keep from fidgeting. Everyone was in place. Luca patted his best friend on the back and he smiled back. Luca then left to join Buck, who was waiting for him to return. He was grateful to Buck for coming today. After all, it was because of him that he was where he was today, and he was the closest thing he had to a father in his life. He nodded and they both went inside.

Luca and Nora, the bride and groom's two witnesses, walked down the aisle on each other's arms. Victoria and Lila came next, holding hands and tossing rose petals down the aisle as the service, and especially their parents, looked on. When the soft music started, all eyes turned to the aisle entrance.

Chris watched her niece and goddaughter walk down the aisle throwing flower petals and a smile stretched her lips. Deacon watched them too, a smile filled with tenderness. Then he turned to the young woman.

« Ready ? You can still turn around and run away. »

She laughed, rolling her eyes.

« I've never been so sure of myself. » she admitted.

« In that case, your future husband is waiting for you. »

He offered her a smile and his right arm which she clung to. She took a deep breath before the music started and they walked down the aisle. She locked her gaze with Street, whose eyes glistened as he watched her walk toward him. His smile was resplendent.

All the nervousness Street felt had left the moment he saw her. Chris. His future wife. She was absolutely beautiful. She was wearing a white pantsuit that was perfectly fitted to her waist and rested above her ankles. The jacket of her suit was open and showed a bodysuit of the same white as the rest of the outfit. It was a bustier embroidered with lace. He found her absolutely stunning in this outfit.

When Deacon set her down beside him, he thanked him and caught Chris' hand in his. He whispered to her how beautiful he thought she was before they turned their attention to Hondo. He was the one officiating the ceremony, he had been honored when the couple had asked him and he took his job very seriously.

When the vows were said, Duke came down the aisle, wearing a black bow tie around his neck. He was carrying the rings in his mouth, which he came to give to Chris, who congratulated him warmly. They exchanged theirs and kept their looks in each other.

They were finally married and they celebrated their union under the applause of their family and their friends. They were finally married, both of them, united by the bond of marriage.

Later that day, all the pressure was off and all that was left was joy and love. The large garden was simply and beautifully decorated, a children's corner with several activities had been set up so that they would not get bored. There was plenty of food and drink for all the guests who were happily chatting while waiting for the bride and groom.

When finally a soft music started and the lights dimmed, all eyes turned to the dance floor set up for the occasion. In the center was Street in his impeccable black suit, tailored to perfection. He took Chris's hand in his and they began to dance together to the rhythm of the music, all eyes on them. They both had conquered smiles on their lips, having eyes only for each other.

Chris finally laid his head against Street's heart and tenderly placed a kiss in her hair as he closed his eyes, resting his chin on the top of her head.

As the music ended, a round of applause echoed through the room and more people joined the couple on the dance floor. Buck grinned at his little protégé as he made his way to the center of the room, accompanied by his ex-wife, who didn't seem like his ex-wife. Tan invited Bonnie to dance and she gladly accepted, as did Luca who accepted Nora's invitation with a smile. Annie was asked to dance by Deacon and Nichelle took Hondo. Hicks watched his team dance with a smile and a proud look on his face.

They all danced together and at the end of the song, they kissed. Their kiss was interrupted by Buck, who invited Chris to dance with him, giving Street a fatherly look. She gladly accepted and Street was taken over by Lila and Victoria who wanted to dance with him. He did so with a tender smile.

Chris and Street found themselves in each other's arms a few minutes later. He looked into her eyes and smiled.

« That's my name Chris. »

« It's the only one I can think of. » she smiled, lifting her head.

« And the only one you'll ever find. »

They exchanged a knowing smile before kissing softly as their friends looked on expectantly.
