At age 11 Brianna loved to read. Uncle Sev had brought her many books to keep her mind occupied so she wouldn't be too lonely.

She was bright and took after her Ma and her Da. Both her parents gave her her stubbornness as well. When she'd start a book that was too difficult to understand at her age, she'd go to Uncle Sev for help.

This time it was a book on Legilimency. Brianna was fascinated with mind-reading and was curious as to how it worked. But when she'd asked her uncle about the topic, he'd say it was too advanced and that it was dark magic. A girl her age shouldn't try it or even read anything about it.

That didn't deter her from reading. She thought that reading shouldn't hurt her. It's not like she'd attempt anything anyways. Her Ma had given her strict orders not to try anything without their supervision.

After her first encounter with magic that she remembered, her mother had told her that she was a witch. It came as a shock to her when she found out.

She was four years old when she remembered when it happened. She was running around the halls playing with Nearly Headless Nick, who was her best friend, and she didn't realize that the stairs were changing when she hit the edge of the stairs. Next thing she knew she was floating in mid-air. She screamed while feeling helpless, not knowing what to do. Meanwhile, Nearly Headless Nick said that he'd help by looking for her Ma.

It was a pretty terrifying experience and she'd thought that she was cursed or something when that happened. However, her Ma had explained and was excited to hear that she would be attending the very school she grew up in.

After that, her uncle had given her private lessons, even though she didn't have a wand yet. She was excited to know things before she became a student. Her uncle had explained the different houses and she was secretly hoping for Slytherin because she thought that she wanted to be just like her Uncle. He smirked at what she told him. When he said that he thought her Ma would be a Gryffindor, Brianna grinned. Maybe being a Gryffindor wouldn't be so bad, she thought.

While Severus was brewing a potion for the infirmary that morning, Brianna was sat on the stool next to him. She couldn't sit still.

"If you insist on fidgeting, Bree, the least you can do is help me." He smirked at his niece when squealed with glee.

"Stir the rod counterclockwise, ten times," he instructed. He brought the stool closer towards the table so she could sit on it while stirring the rod.

"You think I'll be in Slytherin, Uncle Sev?" she asked with excitement while stirring.

Severus snorted. "I sure hope not. I think you'd be best in Ravenclaw." He paused for a moment while reminiscing. "The hat once told me I would do well in Ravenclaw, but my ambition won him over." He snickered.

"I have ambition," she said with a pout. She was on her last turn with the rod.

"Ah, but you have the wit," Severus said with a grin.

All of a sudden there was a knock on the door, "Severus?" Her mother asked.

"In here," he muttered.

"Ah, Bree. How many times do I have to tell you to not wander off on your own?" she asked with a grin.

"I was only helping Uncle Sev," she pouted.

"It's no bother, Claire. I was just telling her she'd be great in Ravenclaw," he said with a knowing look.

"Oh really?" Claire smirked. "It's best we get going, Bree. You don't want to be late to the sorting ceremony, do you?"

It was the second time Bree squealed that day.

When they arrived at the great hall door, her Ma knelt down in front of her. "Things will be different this year, Bree." She paused for a moment trying to find the right words.

Severus intervened. "Your Ma is right, Bree." He then knelt down. He was glad no one was around because he wanted to keep his persona in check. He grunted. "Now that you're a student here, you can't go wandering around the halls whenever you want. You have to follow the same rules that the other students have. As such, you can't very well go down the dungeons to visit me whenever you want either -"

"But -" Bree tried to say.

"No buts about it. Professor McGonagall will explain to all the students about it anyways…. No special treatment, understood?" Severus said with a pointed look.

Bree pouted but nodded. "Yes, sir."

Severus awkwardly patted her shoulder. "Well, then we best be going. You can wait by the stairs for everyone else when they arrive."

"I love you, Bree," her mother said with a smirk then hugged her tightly. "You will do great things."

She was sitting on the lowest step when she heard voices and laughter coming near. Looking down on the floor, she suddenly became nervous. What if they don't like me? What if I don't fit in?

"Honestly, Ronald, I don't think that was the proper spell to turn your rat yellow," said a girl from a short distance.

Bree stood up anxiously. As the crowd grew near, she tried to squeeze in with everyone but someone noticed.

"I don't think we saw you on the train," said the same girl with a smile. When she saw Bree shake her head, her hand shot out to shake Bree's hand. "I'm Hermione Granger!"

Not knowing how to be around other kids her age, she blushed and took out her hand and shook Hermione's hand. "I'm Brianna Randall Fraser, but everyone just calls me Bree," she said as if she was saying it all at once.

"That's the longest name I've ever heard," the redhead joked but Hermione nudged him on the stomach.

Hermione rolled her eyes. But when she was about to say something, the professor entered the hall.

"Settle down everyone!" Professor McGonagall said. "Alright, as you enter through the doors, you will be sorted into your houses. There is Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Gryffindor. Everyone will behave accordingly. You will receive points for your houses if you follow the rules and answer questions in class, and the same goes if you misbehave; you will lose points. When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted. Now, if you will follow me." She said as she opened the double doors.

It would be fun to see everyone's reactions, she thought with a smile. She remembered the first time she had entered the Great Hall. It was magical.

As they walked down the aisle she heard many gasps when they looked up at the ceiling.

"I remember reading this in Hogwarts A History," the same girl she talked to said. "It's bewitched to look like the sky outside."

Bree giggled because she remembered reading the same thing. As they arrived near the stool, she glanced up at the faculty. Hagrid was there with the same look he always gave her. If she didn't know any better, it looked like he was proud of her. Then she saw Uncle Sev. She tried to see any emotion out of him, but it looked like his emotions were blank. All of a sudden he winked at her and she blushed. Then she turned to face her Ma, who was sitting next to Madam Pomfrey. She looked as though she was about to cry in front of everyone.

With that, she rolled her eyes.

"Hannah Abbot!"

Once she sat on the stool, the hat was placed on her head and she relaxed when the hat said Hufflepuff.

"Cho Chang!"

When the hat was placed on her head it said Ravenclaw.

Brianna twiddled her fingers. She was getting anxious at the thought of what house she was going to be placed in. She was hoping for Slytherin but her uncle said she'd be placed in Ravenclaw.

Finally, her name was being called. She glanced at her Ma and her uncle. They both nodded when she climbed on the stool.

When the hat was put on her head she jumped when the hat was talking to her. I see, your mind is wise, and yet you are loyal. I see that you do have a sense of ambition, but you have a mind of a Ravenclaw. Brianna was gripping the stool tightly.

"Better be, Ravenclaw!"

Bree sighed then walked over towards the Ravenclaw table. She glanced at her Uncle and he grinned knowingly. She rolled her eyes.

She was momentarily sad that her new friend was not in the same house. But she remembered something that her uncle had said. "You don't have to only be friends with students in your house."

She glanced at Hermione with a sad smile and thought with a determination that she would befriend her even though they don't have the same house.

"Harry Potter!" As he walked over towards the stool to sit down, she noticed that her uncle quickly turned to look at the kid who sat on the stool currently. When Bree glanced over, it looked as though Harry was having a fit with the hat and was struggling with his composure.

"Slytherin!"

Everyone was silent, though Bree didn't understand why. She wanted to be in Slytherin like her uncle. What was the big deal? She thought as the boy sadly walked over towards the Slytherin table.

She glanced at Cho who was sitting opposite of her. "Why is everyone so shocked that he was sorted into Slytherin?" Brianna whispered.

Cho looked at her as though she was growing a third eye. "Harry Potter's dad is a world-famous quidditch champion. He created a legacy here - "

"Quidditch?" She looked at her with confusion. Sure she grew up learning practical spells, and reading books, but never once has her mother told her about Quidditch.

She looked at her while still in shock. "Quidditch is a game where you ride on broomsticks." She paused for a moment while trying to think of what else to say. "Oh, you might've grown up with muggle parents?"

Brianna blushed. "Well, it was kind of a shock when my mother found out I was a witch. She is one too, but my da, well, he was not." She said sadly. "But, I um, I did have a magical upbringing. I assume my Ma decided it was too unsafe for me to know anything about it."

"Oh, yeah, people do tend to break arms once in a while. But it's fun to watch! We go against each other's houses -"

"Settle down everyone!" Headmaster Dumbledore said then paused for a moment.

After his speech, the food appeared out of nowhere. She smiled and started her food.

Robert Hilliar, their prefect, had escorted them out of the Great Hall and given them a tour of Hogwarts. She already knew of the portraits that moved and many of the ghosts in the castle were her friends.

As they walked along with one of the hallways, they passed by Nearly Headless Nick. "Hello, Sir Nicholas!"

"Bree! It's good to see you!"

"How was your summer?" She asked and her face flushed.

"Dismal. Once again, my request to join the Headless Hunt has been denied." Nearly Headless Nick said then swooped away.

"You know Nearly Headless Nick?" Cho asked skeptically.

When they reached the Ravenclaw portrait, Bree shrugged. "Did I not mention that I live here? I guess it slipped my mind," her face turned redder.

"It's just we've never seen you," Cho said, still in shock.

Bree just shrugged when she walked inside.

As she got ready for bed, she met her classmates. Padma Patil was the first to introduce her. Her bed was close to hers and they both seemed to have connected. Cho's bed was on the other side.

The next morning, she woke up with a bundle of nerves. She had received her timetable for the year and noted to herself that she had seven classes. Her first class was potions and she was excited to see that her uncle was the professor. Even though she knew he would be.

When she got to class, she noticed that there was an empty seat next to the girl she'd met earlier. She bit her lip and walked over and noticed they were in the front.

"Late are we?" Uncle Sev smirked at her as he walked inside the classroom.

"I couldn't find my way around," she grumbled.

"Already taking points away, are we now, Miss…" Uncle Sev snickered.

"Brianna Fraser." She mumbled.

"15 points from Ravenclaw, and I am sure you'll be able to bring them back?"

She simply nodded then took her seat next to Hermione while she blushed. The girl opposite of her gently patted her shoulder as if consoling her.

Bree noticed her uncle looking around the room until his face settled on Harry Potter. She sighed. His attitude wasn't what she was expecting. However, knowing his personality, one doesn't cross him.

"Mr. Potter…" He paused for a moment. "Our new celebrity…." He snickered at him. "Tell me, Mr. Potter. What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel and infusion of wormwood?" Uncle Sev paused for a moment as if waiting for Harry's response.

Both Hermione and Bree's hands shot up.

"Well?" Uncle Sev said then crossed his arms speculatively

"I don't know sir," Harry said as if whispering.

A few minutes later the interrogation stopped. Both Hermione and Bree's hands were still up.

"Kindly put your hands down, the both of you!" Her uncle snapped. "Clearly…" he said then glared at the boy. "Fame isn't everything," he spat.

Bree winced at his outburst. Growing up in Hogwarts with her mum, there were times when her uncle had yelled and her mum took her out of his lab.

It was every year on a specific date. It was like he was grieving for someone. Her mum would never tell her as it wasn't her story to tell. But, she had a feeling that Harry had something to do with that day every year.

When class was over, she was just about to leave when her Uncle called out for her. "Miss Fraser, a word?"

Shoulders slumped, she tightly held her book bag around her shoulder and walked over towards his desk. "Sir?"

When the last of the students walked out, he sighed. "I apologize for being harsh with you. You were late, and I don't play favorites."

"I understand. It's because of Harry, isn't it?"

Her uncle suddenly glanced up at her and nodded. "His dad and I, well, we had a rivalry of sorts," he said with a snort.

Brianna nodded with understanding.

"You remember our arrangement?" Her uncle said with his right eyebrow raised.

She nodded. "I don't come looking for you whenever I want to."

"That's right," he paused. "You know I am very proud that you're in Ravenclaw," he smiled softly.

Brianna beamed with a smile. "Really?"

"You forget that I was almost put into Ravenclaw." He chuckled. "No off with you, lass. Best not be late for your next class."

The week came and went with no significant events.

November 1991

As time wore on, Brianna became close friends with Hermione because they had similar interests. She was thankful for her friendships especially when they went to the library. The library was also her favorite place in the castle.

One day when a couple of friends were sitting in the library, they were interrupted by a group of Slytherins.

The next thing she knew, a boy with blond hair walked up to them. When Brianna saw the shadow, she looked up, "Yes?"

Draco chuckled. "Look who we have here, a couple of mudbloods reading together, how sweet."

Hermione this time glanced up and then her face faltered after she heard that name.

"Leave them alone, Malfoy," the newcomer said and narrowed his eyes.

"Oh? And what are you going to do, Potter, go to Madam Pince's desk and tell on me?" Malfoy sniggered.

The next thing Malfoy knew, he was floating in midair up to the ceiling.

"That's the last time you ever make fun of my friend." Brianna spat then he fell to the floor.

The next thing she knew, Professor McGonagall came by to stop her from going any further. "What is the meaning of this!"

Brianna's face reddened. "He started it by name-calling us."

The Professor rushed over the boy and picked him up carefully to take him to the infirmary. "I am sure that your mother would want to hear about this." The Professor said with a grimace. "50 points from Ravenclaw, for attacking a student! Come with me."

"But -"

"I said come with me!"

Brianna sighed then picked up her things. "I'll see you later." She slowly followed The Professor towards the infirmary and wince when they arrived.

She waited near the door until her Ma was yelling. The professor told her to wait near the door until her Ma could berate her.

By the time her Ma was finished tending to Draco, her uncle came in.

He briefly glanced at her then rushed over towards the blond boy.

Of course, she had grown up with Draco since he was her uncle's godson. She never liked the kid, though, she did, however, had a secret crush she'd been harboring for a while now. There were times when she visited him in Malfoy Manor and that his father would berate him in front of her. His facade in the library was not his best self. She wasn't sure if he was just bothering them because he was putting up a front, or it was because of Hermione. Although, she wasn't sure why he said "mudbloods" because her mother was a witch. Unless he didn't know. She'd have to ask him about it.

When Claire finished, she walked over towards her daughter with a cross expression. "Well?"

"He started it."

"You two are family, and all you say is he started it?"

"I did start it," Draco called out and winced as he struggled to get up.

"That's no excuse for fighting in Hogwarts," her Ma said.

"I know," Brianna said then looked on the floor. "It's just." She looked up. "He called me to friend a bad word. I had to defend her."

"Oh really?" Her Ma narrowed her eyes at Draco.

The next day, was broom lessons and Brianna was nervous. She woke up really early to sneak into her uncle's lab since she knew he'd be there.

As she walked in, she heard her uncle sigh. "I thought I told you not to sneak in anymore," he smirked without looking up.

Bree winced then sighed. "I know, I just was too anxious for today."

Uncle Sev nodded with understanding, "I remember when I first road a broom. It felt so natural to me that I decided that I wanted to be in the Slytherin quidditch team.

Her eyes went wide as she sat on the stool. "You were in a quidditch team? What position were you?"

"Seeker." He muttered as he was cutting up one of his ingredients to place in the cauldron.

—-

"Now I want you to say up and the broom will come to you." Madam Hooch instructed.

"Up," was said amongst the students. Most managed to call their broom properly. However, Hermione's broom took a while to control.

"You have to say it with confidence," Brianna whispered with a smile. She had her broom in her hand and grasped it tightly.

Neville had managed to rise to the air and fell on his arm.

June 1991

School came and went with an uneventful year. Brianna had managed to make friends, and Draco was still having issues with her friends.

Her uncle had told her that they were going to spend the summer at Malfoy Manor and it was the first summer that they fully decided to stay. She wasn't sure how she felt about it. The only Malfoy she managed to actually like was Draco's mother. Narcissa did not follow the same views as her husband, which she hoped that Draco would understand her views instead of his father's. One can only hope
