Ianto was going into town… like… Town town. He said so at the breakfast table, again in the front yard as everyone passed kids around … well… Jack took what he wanted and those left over went to school… and it was clear to him that no one wanted to come.
He looked over his glasses as Imp pulled a face and pulled his books closer, Ton and Angel not even pausing their conversation as they got ready for work and Ianto wondered when he had become the boring one. The stick in the mud. Damn. The school snake started to wind off with Ianto left there looking at the younger ones.
Sorta hurt a bit but he knew he was being a bit salty. After all… it was a school day and River was a wonderful teacher so… what about the baby "Shay? Wanna come with Tadda?"
"We're going on the go-carts" Jack said as he clutched the toddler and Shay squealed as hir hands clapped, little bright pink pants on and Hir favorite apple green hat along with a black jacket that was once Hawk's. Today Shay felt girly and had chosen solemnly from the three different clothing items for each body area offered, little fingers reaching for those trousers as well as the Jacket, the little superman t-shirt more considered.
Ianto could not argue with go-carts and sighed, nodding as he accepted that his child wanted Daddy today. Again. As per usual.
"Don't look so sad Taddy, not your fault you're boring" Hawk said as he patted Ianto's leg affectionately and Ianto tried not to look too offended by that. Yeah. Compared to Jack everyone is boring… OK… John and Monkey aside… OK. Hawk started to walk as his end of the snake pulled on his hand and Jack walked along side him as the tail end.
Ianto decided to take his lumps and also look positively at the fact he could choose the music to drive to, driving into Cardiff with his lungs getting a great workout as he sang to Jack's show tunes safe in the knowledge that Jack would never know he secretly enjoyed them too.
Our secret.
By the time Ianto got home late that afternoon the kids were all at Walter's enjoying some Curtis love and Ianto again took his lumps as he saw that he had taught Curtis so well that he was now taking over the afternoon sack times. Ianto was feeling a little obsolete and he knew this was his own doing, he worked to well to get everyone working and now… he had no more jobs to do here so… he was free.
Time to build. Create and maybe… just maybe… find a new normal.
