The little one in the pushchair was enjoying the world flashing past, a little hand visible against the plastic now and then to bring attention to something that needed a closer look. More than one person approached to kneel and was asked politely to keep back, they were still isolating. This made people move back like they had the plague.
The men wore high quality masks, after all Ianto had purchased them for the Fire House not so long ago and now they were being put to good use. The trolley was getting full, the little trinkets, dress up clothes and extras would make everyone so dammed happy when they get home.
It was weird.
On one hand, it was great to have some freedom and be away from the village but on the other hand…. He missed it so much. Ianto just kept thinking about all the things he had to do, wanted to do and where he would rather be. For all the excitement of a trip to town… Ianto was almost done.
"Citizen!" Captain Kitty Hawk yellowed, his own protective gear on making him so damned important as he rushed to slap at a window showing some toddler toys "We need these."
"We do?" Jack asked as he followed his changeling.
"Look. For the baby house… look at all the little squeaky toys. They will love them for chewing on and stuff. Can take them home with them if we have lots" Hawk was begging as his little clawed hands clicked on the glass of the store window.
Jack looked back at Ianto and shrugged, then went inside as Ianto sighed and chose a bench out in the open so he could sit and say "sleeping sorry" to each person approaching to peer into the pushchair. People are so rude and demanding when it's a baby.
The baby house. There was no baby house. They had a mermaid one, a Indiana Jones one, the fairy garden one, the pretend glass wall one… space house, jungle house and the last one was the padded cell house.
A baby house?
Ianto started to see that he had started something that was now beyond his control and more houses would soon join the mad kid's play houses and all he could do was grin.
Yes.
Walter was so happy with the land and the quiet as the kids were all congregating down the other end of the village and the sets were easier to build without kittle fingers trying to help.
Ianto wondered if there ws room for one more house.
A camping one? For little sleepovers?
Ianto started to laugh at himself for being just as insane as everyone else.
He itched to get home.
It felt so… unsafe here in the Real World.
