Gwen was sitting at the kitchen table sniffling when Sam entered the house to check for a child, pausing to see her Taddy comforting the woman with a gentle pat of her hand as she sighed "I don't know."
"Gwen… of couse you don't know. This was unexpected to say the least." Ianto crooned.
"With the kids now growing up and off with their fiends, it is nice to have my time back and I love my job. You know I love my job. Having to take maternity leave was a bitch each time and I am so old now… so old. Can you imagine me pushing a pram?" she sobbed. "When it graduates high school I will look like it's granny."
"Stop that. Gwen… things don't always happen for a grand reason. You fell. That simple. You slipped up and this happened. More than slipping over in the mud for sure but… no use crying over spilt milk. Come on. First step is to go to Owen get the check to see if it's real. Then... then you and Rhys talk it over. You tell him he can take an early retirement and raise it if he is so sure another one is a good idea, then watch his face" Ianto said and she laughed with a hiccup at the end.
"I knew you would make me feel better" she sighed. "I still think about those first few years and what a bitch I was."
"It's early days. Owen can perform the procedure right here, you don't' have to even let anyone now it was an almost thing" Ianto informed her and then he looked over to find Sam there "Hello Sammy love. You OK?"
Gwen spun with shock and embarrassment on her face so Sam admitted "Actually… I am in the same spot Gwen. apparently I am almost five weeks in. I am not happy and have to talk to Fen about what this means for both of us. I just got my freedom back got my routines sorted and … having another one now means I lose it all again. Another five or six tears before I get another shot at freedom? God. I feel horrible even thinking about it but it's not the right time for a kid."
Ianto nodded and smiled softly as he looked between them "You know… it's a strong woman who can voice her fears and thoughts to her husband. I urge you both to do just that. There are five others preggers right now, Lockdown has been productive. A couple less will not mean the world is doomed."
After Gwen had left Ianto sat and regarded Sam as she sat fiddling with the tablecloth "Did you mean that Taddy? What you said to Gwen about … an abortion."
"Yes. No woman should feel she has no rights, no say in her own destiny. Children factor in that." Ianto replied with a frown "Is that why you've avoided telling me? I was starting to think you were never gonna admit it."
"He told you?"
"Huh? Who? No… I saw you in the garden picking fowlers and the way you moved… I knew you had fallen again" Ianto laughed softly "And I was unsure if you wanted me to say anything."
Sam left to talk it over with Fen, suddenly feeling lighter.
Of course Taddy knew.
