Chapter 13
Mr. Glidden went to the jail to see his daughter before she was taken to the asylum. She was sentenced to fifteen years in the asylum. He almost wished it was fifteen years in prison. The asylum was where they sent the loonies. Not only would people view his daughter as bad, but also crazy.
"Daddy, you're rich. Isn't there any way you can get the judge to change his mind?" asked Lucinda.
"Lucinda, I love you. You're my daughter, and I would do anything in the world for you. But I can't this time. I was in the courtroom. I heard what you said. You are a threat to Miss Russell. For what you did and for what you said, you deserve to be locked up. As much as it pains me to say that, it's the truth," said Mr. Glidden.
Lucinda just looked at her father. She couldn't believe he wasn't on her side. During the silence, there was a knock on the door. Mr. Glidden opened the door.
"Mr. Glidden, these deputies are here to take Lucinda," said Matt. "Do you want a few more minutes?"
Mr. Glidden looked at his daughter, who looked away. "No, Marshal. That's not necessary."
"Alright guys, handcuff the prisoner and take her out," Matt said to the deputies.
The deputies did as they were told and took Lucinda outside. They had a wagon to transport her to the asylum. One deputy would drive and the other would sit in the back with Lucinda. The deputies would switch halfway.
Lucinda gone, Matt got everything ready for his fishing trip with Kitty. He packed the fishing poles and the picnic basket he had Delmonico's arrange for him. He rented a wagon from Moss Grimmick and drove it to the Long Branch to pick up Kitty.
When Matt arrived at the Long Branch, Kitty was waiting outside for him. She was wearing a white dress covered with blue flowers. The blue flowers brought out her blue eyes. Her hair was loosely pulled back and she wore a sun bonnet. Matt couldn't stop looking at Kitty. She was absolutely beautiful. Kitty saw Matt's look of appreciation and smiled.
"Are you ready to go, Miss Russell? Matt asked as he jumped down from the wagon.
" I sure am, Mr. Dillon," Kitty replied.
"Well then, let's get going. The fish are waiting," said Matt. He helped Kitty into the wagon.
Matt had told Kitty he had a favorite fishing spot and that's where they were going. He said it was a great fishing spot and he didn't share it with anyone. That made Kitty feel special. While they were riding out Matt's favorite spot, Kitty turned and noticed the picnic basket. Matt obviously planned to do more than fishing.
Matt saw Kitty look in the back of the wagon. He knew she had seen the picnic basket. "I figured after we caught some fish, we could fry them up and have a picnic. I had Delmonico's pack us some sides to eat with our fish."
"You must expect to catch some fish," Kitty said with a smile.
"I usually do when I go fishing at this spot," said Matt.
Matt and Kitty arrived at the fishing spot. Matt hopped down from the wagon seat and then helped Kitty down. They both grabbed a fishing pole and left the picnic basket in the wagon. They would get that later. Matt got both his fishing pole and Kitty's fishing pole ready. Kitty knew she could get her own fishing pole ready, but she decided to let Matt do it for her.
Fishing poles ready, Matt and Kitty walked down to the bank of the river. They cast their lines in and waited for the fish to bite. Kitty took a step closer to the river, but slipped. She lost her footing and grabbed Matt. Matt wasn't expecting Kitty to grab hold of him and ended up going into the river with her. They both ended up going under the water and coming up coughing.
"Are you alright?" asked Matt, concern all over his face.
"Yes. I'm sorry. I slipped. I probably scared all the fish away. I guess we won't be catching anything today," said Kitty.
"Oh I don't know about that," said Matt as he lifted her up in his arms. "I think I made the catch of a lifetime."
Kitty looked into Matt's eyes and saw passion. She leaned forward and kissed him deeply. He eagerly responded. After several minutes of kissing, they were both out of breath. Matt set Kitty back down on her feet, away from the slippery bank of the river. They were both soaking wet.
"We really can't go back to Dodge all soaking wet," said Matt. "Why don't we dry in the sun and enjoy what's in the picnic basket?"
"Sounds like a plan to me," stated Kitty.
Matt went to the wagon to retrieve the picnic basket. In the wagon there was also a blanket. He grabbed that too. When he returned to Kitty, he put the picnic basket down. She helped him spread out the blanket. Now that the blanket was spread out on the ground, Matt picked the basket up again and set it on the blanket. He lifted the lid and pulled out some plates. Setting a plate in front of each of them, Matt pulled out the food that Delmonico's had packed for them. There were fresh rolls, green beans, and some apple pie. Matt had told them they didn't need to pack any sort of meat because he planned on catching some fish.
"I'm sorry there isn't more to eat than this. I really planned on catching some fish," said Matt.
"This is fine. Besides, I'm here to enjoy the company more than the food," said Kitty as she looked into Matt's steel blue eyes.
"You and me both," said Matt.
Matt and Kitty dished food onto their plates and ate in a comfortable silence. Even though neither one of them said anything, there was no awkwardness. After a few more minutes of silence, Matt finally spoke.
"Listen Kitty," he started. "Um I know that you really want to go to California, and, um, I know that you probably make a lot more money uh entertaining men in your room, than just working downstairs, but I don't want you taking men to your room anymore. I want to be the only man that touches you. I want to be your only man. I want you to be my girl."
KItty was at a loss for words. She didn't know what to say. Being his girl was something she started dreaming about. Kitty had a feeling reality would be much better than any dream.
Matt took her silence in a different way. He assumed that she didn't want to be his girl, but didn't know how to tell him. He tried to make the situation better. "I don't want to force you into anything. You can tell me no."
Kitty looked at Matt and could see his face turning flush. He was obviously embarrassed. Since she felt as though she was the one to cause his embarrassment, she should be the one to fix it. That's just what she did. She scooted closer to him, took his face in her hands, and lovingly kissed him. "Of course I'll be your girl. Nothing could make me happier."
"What about California?" Matt asked.
"I told you that nothing could make me happier," said Kitty. "Matt, you said you wanted me to stop entertaining men in my room."
"I'm sorry. I had no right telling you what to do. It's just that…" Matt was saying, but Kitty interrupted him.
"I don't entertain men in my room. I haven't since I've been in Dodge, and I don't ever plan to," said Kitty.
Matt was surprised by Kitty's confession. He just assumed that since she was a saloon girl, that was part of the job. "I guess I shouldn't have assumed that you did. I just figured it was part of the job."
"Bill doesn't force the girls to entertain men. He leaves that up to us. There are some that entertain men in their rooms, and they do make more money. But I decided I didn't want to do that anymore. I had bad experiences in Abilene and I didn't want any here," said Kitty.
"Kitty, you said you never plan on entertaining men in your room," Matt stated, running a trail of kisses down her neck.
Kitty was enjoying the sensation Matt's kisses were causing. She could barely focus on what she wanted to say. "I think I can make an exception for one particular man. Maybe he could stop by the Long Branch after closing time, and come up to my room. He can use the back stairs that lead up to my room."
"I've been meaning to ask how you got the room with the outside staircase," Matt said.
"There were two rooms available, the one I'm staying in and one further down the hall. Since the one I'm staying in is smaller than the one down the hall, Bill doesn't charge me as much. I figured I wasn't making money entertaining men in my room, so I better find a way to compensate for that," Kitty told Matt.
Satisfied that they were dry enough to return to town, Matt and Kitty packed the wagon with the blanket, picnic basket, and fishing poles. They rode back into town, and Matt dropped Kitty off at the Long Branch. He promised her he would come to her room, after he did his rounds.
As promised, Matt went to Kitty's room after his rounds. By the time he made it there, Front Street was pretty much deserted. However, he still was careful not to be seen. It wasn't that he was embarrassed to be associated with Kitty, he just didn't want Kitty and himself to be the subjects of town gossip. But an even bigger reason was he wanted to keep her safe. If people started to know she was his girl, they could use her to get to him, and that's something he wasn't going to risk. He would have to talk to her about that.
Kitty heard Matt come up the steps. He had never come up those steps, but knew it was him, and not just because he said he would come to her. She heard him approach the door and then softly knock. She got up from her vanity table and answered the door.
"Matt, come in," Kitty said. She stepped aside, so he could enter.
Matt stepped inside, taking his Stetson off as he did. He looked around for a place to put it, finally settling on the nightstand next to the bed. He then noticed that Kitty was in her nightgown. She was obviously comfortable enough to let him see her in her nightgown.
"Why don't you make yourself comfortable and stay awhile," Kitty suggested.
"You know if I get too comfortable, I may not want to leave until tomorrow morning," said Matt.
"That's my plan," said Kitty in a seductive voice.
"Kitty, before we start anything, I have to talk to you,"
"Sure Matt, it sounds important."
"It is. I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but we have to keep our relationship a secret. Before you say anything, it has nothing to do with you working in a saloon. I need to keep you safe. If people, especially my enemies, find out you're my girl, they could use you to get revenge on me. Please tell me you'll agree to this," pleaded Matt.
"Matt, I told you earlier that nothing could make me happier than to be your girl. If keeping our relationship a secret is going to allow me to be your girl, then I will most gladly do so," said Kitty. "Now, why don't you show me just how much you think of me as your girl."
Matt needed no more clues. He slowly removed his clothes, while Kitty removed her nightgown. Clothing removed, they climbed into bed. This was the first time they would be together, yet it was as if they were two lost souls that had been together before.
It started out with kissing and touching and foreplay. But before long, Kitty was aching for Matt to be inside her. She gently took his erected manhood and guided him into her. Once inside her, she wrapped her legs around him, pulling him in as deeply as she could. Matt took intense pleasure being inside Kitty. He began rocking and thrusting against her. Kitty matched his every move. They were sharing a dance that only two lovers could share. After a few more thrusts and grunts, Matt felt himself climax, spilling his seed into Kitty. Kitty's climax followed. Her muscles clenched around him. After their bodies recovered, Matt slowly pulled out of Kitty. He gathered her in his arms and kissed the top of her head.
"I love you, Kitty," he whispered.
"I love you too, Matt," she softly replied.
Kitty thought about Matt's declaration of love and decided he really meant it. He didn't say it before they made love to get her into bed. He didn't say it during the passionate moment of their lovemaking, when men have been known to blurt things out in the heat of the moment. No, he said it after their lovemaking was over. To Kitty, that meant something. She realized right then and there that she had found her soulmate, the love of her life.
The End (of this story, not the love between Matt Dillon and Kitty Russell. That will go on forever.)
