I decided to see my father without Michael and Marie present. I don't want him to look at them or talk to them. they have been a mess already and are still having nightmares from our time in the basement. they've spent their whole lives in that basement and now they are finally able to go outside, make friends, and get to know their brother, Thomas, my mom, Christopher, and Kate.
I parked in my car and I was escorted to his cell. I was hoping that someone would tell me that he killed himself. but no one did. instead, they escorted me into the visiting from and that is when I saw him. glaring at me through the glass.
I plopped myself down on our chairs and picked up the phone.
"you little bitch. I drove you to the hospital, that way we can save Marie and instead you tell on me."
"call me what you want. you can't hurt me anymore."
"I was trying to punish you because you were heading down the wrong path. I hit you, I turned off the air, I deprived you of food, and I gassed the basement to make you sick. just until Thomas intruded."
"you psycho." I shook my head. "you could have killed us."
"I wasn't trying to. I was trying to punish you because of Michael. he interfered in me punishing you and he stood up for you and began to hit me."
"and I couldn't be more proud of him. he's playing baseball now. just like he always wanted to, Marie is in gymnastics and she has a boyfriend, and I am with Chris again and we are engaged. we are all so very happy. you didn't destroy us. we are still going on with our lives."
"I am not the villain," he smirked. "you are the reason that you and the children were down in the basement. you were spoiled and a liar. sneaking out at night to see Christopher."
"I was seventeen." I cried out. I was the same age that Christopher is now! you've deprived me of living my life. I'm forty years old and all my years were wasted because of you." I sniffed and when I saw him at a loss for words, I spoke again. "you'll never see them again. or me. we are in a secluded area. safe from you. I don't consider you my father anymore. you're a rapist, who kidnapped me. you've told me to call you Don before. which proves that you know that you're not my dad. I don't have a dad but my children will have one, once I marry Chris and he will be a much better father than you ever were." like that I hung up the phone and I left him in his prison, just like he did to me every night for twenty years.
