Chapter 5 - Compulsion

\/\/\/

The Cullen's modern mansion was lit up brightly. Jake could see inside the rooms of the house that faced this side, though somewhat a blur with his drunken vision. There were no Cullen's visible as he drove up the last of their driveway on his motorbike, skidding when he pulled up.

Though Jake was wearing nothing but jeans, not even shoes, he wasn't cold. His long hair was windswept. He was running hot, especially tonight. The rain started to gently fall, but it wasn't something he noticed. Jacob had tunnel vision while pacing to their front door. He had to see Edward.

Before he had a chance to knock on the glass door, which was crystal clear, looking almost like there was no barrier there, Carlisle appeared. He was wearing a comfortable sweater and jeans, even though it was past midnight. Vampires did not sleep, Jake suddenly remembered.

Carlisle smiled, surprisingly kindly. He did not seemed shocked at Jake's sudden and wild appearance. There was no way he couldn't smell the hard alcohol on Jake's breath. Esme was standing at the base of the stairs, looking genuinely delighted to see Jacob. This threw Jacob off kilter, why were they being so kind?

"Jacob, it's nice to see you. What brings you here so late?" Carlisle asked gently. Somehow knowing Jake's name.
"Uh.." stuttered Jake, unsure of what to say to these people.

He could feel their yellow eyes peering into his soul.

"Well... How about you come inside?" Carlisle asked with a smile.

Jacob, without saying a word, stepped into the house still looking at Carlisle in bewilderment. Carlisle led him up the stairs, past his wife Esme, who for some reason, could not stop smiling. She looked happy to her very soul watching Jacob enter their home.

He had a chilling thought. Perhaps they were so happy because he would not survive this night...

But somehow Jacob felt they were genuinely happy, which was even more shocking than them wanting to drain his veins.

The home was beautifully designed. Every square inch of the place was clean and stylish. Barely a speck of dust. They had healthy indoor plants that stood beside the massive windows, staring out into the black forest. The paintings were exquisite, surely painted in the renaissance period. Everything was so modern, it was hard to believe that this place existed just outside of Forks', the most old fashioned backward town in Washington.

Jake knew he was in the Vampires lair... but it was so... comfortable. His pack would be terrified for him if they knew where he was. Embry and Quill must have thought Jake got tired and went home, not put himself in mortal danger because of an emotional compulsion to see Edward Cullen.

He was led into a large family lounge area. In the middle of the room, facing away, was the person Jacob came to see.

There was no one else around, and come to think of it, Jake just noticed that Carlisle and Esme had disappeared. He did a quick spin on the spot. They were nowhere to be seen.

The place was so quiet. How many people lived here? 7 people. as silent as air. Jake wondered if they were listening from a distance.

Jake stood at the top of the stairs, staring at the man with his back turned. He was wearing a black t-shirt, so dark against the stark white skin of his neck.
The man slowly turned and fixed his eyes on Jacob.

The feeling was electric for Jacob. Not as intense as the imprinting, but smooth flowing energy, like a stream flowing into his heart, elevating its beat. He suddenly felt calm, but energized as his legs began to walk toward Edward, without his decision to move them.

The both just looked at each other. Jake was revelling in the moment, Edward seemed to just be perfectly still, like a statue.

"You should eat something, Jacob." Edward conveyed, in the smoothest voice Jacob had ever had the pleasure of hearing. He was trying to sober Jake up.

He wanted to fall into that voice, allowing it to consume him like a pool of smooth honey.

"Esme prepared you a sandwich, I can't say whether her sandwiches are good or not, I've never had the pleasure of consuming one, sadly." He admitted, looking genuinely sad.

A sandwich... Jacobs thoughts were slow... How could they prepare him a sandwich when they didn't know he was coming? Jacob himself didn't know he was coming to the Cullen's home until five minutes previous.

Jacob couldn't stop staring at Edward. His skin. His hair. His face. His voice.

It was everything.

Jacob advanced forward to Edward, feeling more sober than he had ever felt. He put his right hand against Edwards soft, cold cheek.

Without pause, he leaned in and put his lips against Edward's, softly.

It was a compulsion.

There was no decision in this action. It was as sure as the sun rising and the world turning.

Jacob believed these men had to be together.

As Jacob gently moved his lips against Edwards, he didn't care that his family would be disgusted. He craved Edward to be his true love like he needed air.

Jacob knew he would be devoted to Edward until the day he died, regardless of whether Edward felt passion in return...

Edwards lips were cool and refreshing, but extremely soft for a man that looked like stone.

Jacob was enchanted.

There was no lust in this kiss.

It was an expression of the purest and most ardent desire of Jake's heart.

After gently kissing for what felt like eternity, Jacob pulled away from Edward.

The men were silent for a few moments as they gazed into one another's souls...

"You should sit down." Edward asserted gently.

They sat down together on the same couch as Edward passed Jacob a bottle of water. Maybe he was drunker than he thought.

Jake swigged the water and consumed the sandwich with gusto. It was delicious, Esme knew how to craft good food, somehow.

"I'm sorry to drop by unannounced..." Jacob uttered shyly. Feeling the redness of his hot cheeks. Edward was still pale. No change. Had the kiss affected him as much as Jacob? He felt his heart pounding.

"It's alright. Unannounced is never a problem." He replied kindly. Jacob didn't understand that statement, but didn't dwell on it.

He didn't know what to say. How could he ever vocalise his feelings? He just displayed his passion the best way he knew how. Had Edward understood?

"I've imprinted on you." Jacob stated boldly. Feeling a flutter of anxiety in his chest.
"It's okay, I understand." Edward replied gently, not looking at Jacob. "Your emotions have been... tumultuous."
"Extremely. But... apart from the kiss.. how could you have known my feelings, you don't seem shocked?" Jacob stuttered out.
"I know them. I won't explain right now, but I understand the gravity of your feelings for me."

Jacob was shocked. Why wasn't he shocked? How could he possibly understand? He should think Jake was insane.

"We kissed." Jacob said intensely.
"I know... I was there." Edward smiled and laughed slightly. "I haven't ever been kissed you know... that was my first."
"We kissed... passionately." Jacob continued in disbelief.
"It was quite passionate." Edward replied as he played with his hair.

They were avoiding each others eyes.

His first kiss. Jacob had just been Edward Cullen's very first kiss. How was that even possible? The man was gorgeous.

Love was blooming in Jake's heart.

"I'm so sorry... your family? What they might be thinking?" Jake suddenly remembered.
"Oh, don't worry about them, there aren't many secrets between us. Even if I wish there were." He ended slightly louder, as if he knew his family could hear from a distance.

Jake had to ask the question, but he dreaded that the answer might not be what he desired.

"Are you... I mean... are you gay?" Jake asked.

Edward took longer than a moment to answer.

"I am homosexual, yes." He said proudly.

Another flutter.
Jake couldn't help but smile widely. Maybe everything would fall into position, better than a dream.

"I'm sorry that I kissed you without asking your permission." Jake said quietly, feeling slightly ashamed.
"Don't worry, I had plenty of time to pull away... if I had the desire to prevent it occurring." Edward replied.
"Did you enjoy it?" Jacob couldn't help but mumble timidly.

Edward stretched his legs out straight and tapped his toes together gently.

He looked cute. Jacob thought some of his mannerisms were slightly... feminine.

"I liked it." He said finally with a little grin, avoiding Jake's eyes. "It definitely wasn't how I thought my first kiss would be... with a man that I didn't know, had never spoken to before..."

He liked it. That was all Jacob heard. He felt wonderful as his heart soared.

After eating and drinking, Jake felt perfectly sober. He felt better than sober. He could conquer the world.

Feeling confident and bold, Jake asked. "Can I take you out to dinner sometime?"
"Edward looked at him and smiled. "You can." He answered. "But I don't really eat."

Oh. Jake had forgotten that fact.. amazingly.

Feeling silly, He said. "Oh, of course, that was a dumb suggestion... Maybe we can do something else, like see a movie this weekend?"
"I'd love that." Edward exclaimed.

They both looked away from each other, timid smiles on their faces.

Suddenly becoming more aware of himself, Jacob said. "It's very late."

"Billy might worry if you don't arrive home shortly." Edward agreed. Somehow knowing his father's name.

Edward walked him outside.

They were silent, walking side by side in the cool night air. Owls could be hears in the distant darkness of the thick trees.

"Be careful on the ride home, won't you?" Edward requested.
"I will... Can I pick you up this Friday? Jake asked. Still surprised at his boldness tonight and chuffed that Edward cared about his safety.
"I'm looking forward to it." Replied Edward shyly with his arms crossed like he was nervous.

Jake got on his bike. Aware that Edward took a long moment to glance at his abdominal muscles.

They made a short moment of intense eye contact before Edward said goodnight.

Jake reluctantly allowed his motor to thrum to life.

He rode home at half the speed he drove earlier. Elated.
