"Dreams...sometimes they can be more fulfilling than life itself. Yet, sometimes they can be painful."

No, don't go.

Don't go.

A grayish atmosphere spread across the empty room, and a hospital bed sat in the middle.

An energized figure sat atop the bed with a wrinkled smile. Their eyes were tired, but they were filled with regret and worry as they gazed at the two young children crying in front of them, who seemed to be unable to control his emotions. In their tears, they begged and begged, wanting to hold onto their grandfather, they didn't want to let him go just yet.

The feeling made them miserable. The sensation was surreal, like hearing a piano barely touched by a single finger.

Don't go.

Please.

Among the wails in the hospital room was an abrupt 'beep' that suddenly interrupted the children's uncontrollable sobbing. It filled the dead silence lingering in the empty atmosphere, waiting to be captivated with their warm huggable voices.

No.

No.

"...He's gone." One of the children spoke, her voice was low and quiet, yet shaky.

"Our grampa..is..." The other wailed, wiping his eyes with his small slender fingers.

Dead.

...

7:00 AM [Kagamine Residence]

"Oi! Rin! Time to get up!"

Morning light crept through the windows, rays of faint gray light painted the vanilla-colored walls. A wooden desk was nestled in the corner, neatly covered with Japanese study books, perfect velvet tracing the covers of the seam. Huddled inside the rosy blankets laid an average-sized girl, her golden hair ruffled over the pillow, the slim bedsheets over her head.

"Ugh...What the heck..what type of dream was..that?"

It was raining, the droplets of dew patting on the window, waving hello in greeting. Almost like a friend waiting to wake the female up from her peaceful slumber. It wasn't before her alarm clock on her phone began ringing, piercing her ears as they filled with the sound, it was like cold water entering her eardrums.

"I know, I know...Shut up." I groaned in annoyance as I effortlessly slapped my crying cell phone from my bedside table, and to piss me off even more, it had the audacity to fall off the surface.

"Goddamnit!" I yelled out abruptly.

The door pushed open, revealing a messy blonde-haired boy, the little tip of his ponytail peeking out. He was wearing his basic white t-shirt and gray sweatpants, comfy as usual. "Oi, Rin. You can't keep waking up late like this, it's only the first week of school." My brother lectured me, sighing in frustration as I laid there, slumped on the surface of my comfy bed with the covers over my head.

His voice was smug and raspy and slightly deep, yet croaky and hoarse. Like the bitter taste of dark chocolate lingering in your tongue. I moved my wispy bangs away from my pale face, revealing my crystal blue eyes, a pool of annoyance filling in my pissed expression. "Shut up, Len," I mutter. "You know I don't want to go to that hell that we call 'school'." I snarl under my breath as Len laughs and smirks smugly.

God, that annoying smile made me want to rip his face off.

"Alright, let's go come on." He gestures as he shoves the bedsheets off from my comfy bed, letting them hang loosely off the mattress as it brushes against the wooden surface of the floor. I lazily curl up from my bed, my droopy blonde bangs showering over my pale blue eyes like a waterfall flowing through rocks and piles of rubble.

"Fine. Get out, I'm going to change."

Tired. I immediately thought about yesterday, I had taken about three or two pills since I had sleep problems this whole damn week, right after my parents left. They went on a vacation trip, something about work they always say. The thought makes me scoff as I undress from my grey silk pajamas.

Liars.

It wasn't that I thought they were lying to me and my brother, but the thought makes me angry. What type of parents are they? Leaving their children all alone, especially after the person who took care of us the most is already dead. My thoughts are interrupted by the horrid scent of burnt eggs and toast.

Oh god. "CRAP!" I hear my brother curse, "NOOO!" It sounded like he howled for a slight second, then there was some shuffling, then muttering. "I'm sorry, toast. You were good to me." I hear him whisper, and I stifle a laugh.

Sighing in frustration, I adjust the hem of my black tie as I begin buttoning up my black blazer, the rusty golden circles gleaming in the dusty morning light. I push open my ivory bedroom door, my bare feet touching the cold surface of the floor.

"Sigh, you're always burning breakfast, Len-kun," I mutter between quiet giggles and whispers. He whips his head as he throws a murderous glare at me, he looks offended by my tiny lecture.

"Maybe you should try cooking for me instead, Rin-chan!" He yelled out, grinning sheepishly and proudly.

I could tell he was being sarcastic.

It's true that he cooks breakfast for me every morning but then ends up burning it. He sucks at cooking. I rolled my eyes, snickering quietly as I pulled a chair and sat down. I began eating my breakfast before my eyes caught a small glimpse of the ticking clock.

Oh crap.

"Uh...dude?" I asked the blonde boy in front of me, who was having a feud between his toast and horribly made eggs. He hums in confirmation and curiosity, raising his chin slightly as he chews on his eggs.

"We're late." I spit out, pointing to the clock.

8:00 AM.

He froze, immediately dropping the remainder of his food on the plate. "SHIT! RIN, WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME? AND I HAVE TO GO TO THE STUDY HALL THIS MORNING, DAMNIT!" He yelled out abruptly like a child, grabbing his leather bookbag and racing out the door.

"LET'S GO, COME ON!"

Geez, this morning was off to a great start.

6:45 AM [Megurine Residence]

The blaring of an alarm clock burst through the dense air of the chill bedroom, signaling the girl huddled in the ivory bedsheets to get up. The female stretched out and let out a quiet groan as she sighed in exhaustion. "That was some good sleep," She smiles sleepily, yawning as she adjusted her cyan bangs away from her pale face. The tealette placed her feet on the cold floor, before shuffling towards her vanity.

"C-cold.."

It was a quiet spring morning in Osaka, Japan. The same as all the other mornings, but a bit chilly almost as if it had just finished raining. Drops of dew barely hung onto the end of the pointy grass, eager to drop down to the moist dirt and flow through the veins of growing plants.

"Miku-chan! Hey, are you awake?" A tender feminine voice spoke in the empty hallways, soft and delicate. Miku walked out of her bedroom, her long beautiful hair flowing nicely behind her. The female looked around, "Luka?" Miku's voice spoke quietly. Her voice was a mixture of vanilla and sweet cuteness, like a bowl full of delicious cotton candy and bitter milk chocolate. A cotton candy pink-haired woman shifted from the corner, throwing a smile towards the younger girl. She looked about eighteen or nineteen, perhaps a young senior in high school.

"Morning." Miku threw a warm smile in return towards her big sister. "Is breakfast ready?" She says as she stumbles to the bathroom, Luka grasps her arm gently as the tealette leans against the pale white wall. "Yeah, is your ankle doing okay?" The older sister asked as Miku nodded in reply. "Still kinda hurts, but I'm okay." She smiled softly and sweetly. "What's for breakfast?"

"Rice, and some eggs," Luka responds, her voice soft and gentle. "I made you some leeks too."

It had been a few months since Miku had gotten into that tragic car accident with their mother. Their mother was still in the hospital ever since Luka and Miku had gotten an apartment together, and had been in a coma for as long as they could remember.

"Did dad call you today?" Miku asks as she adjusts her hair into two even parts, "Nah, he didn't." Luka said as she flipped an egg on the sizzling frying pan, "Hasn't called me ever since mom went into the hospital."

Miku's eyes were saddened as she heard Luka's sentence, she didn't expect her father to literally ghost them after the accident. "He probably is just busy with work, so don't worry, Miku." Luka patted the tealette's head and placed a plate full of delicious rice and some omelets drizzled with bits of leeks.

Miku smiles happily, "Thanks, Luka-san." She grins before stuffing a whole scoop of rice padded with omelets and vibrant green vegetables inside her mouth, satisfied. Luka hums in confirmation, pulling a chair and sitting beside her younger sister as she begins to eat breakfast as well.

Eating breakfast together always made Miku feel better about tragic events that had occurred before in the past. She liked to distract herself. If she made herself smile, she would be happy for real.

At least, that's what she thought.

She didn't want to remember anything about the past, the past was all ashes of burnt blood trailing from the horrid world of the hell she had been through.

"Miku-chan?"

Luka's warm voice broke the tealette out of her thoughts, making her flinch. "Oh! Um, sorry sis." Miku muffles as she shakes her head, a nervous grin forming on her pale pink lips. "I'll go change now, thanks for the breakfast, sis!" Miku says as she quickly speedwalks to the kitchenette and places her smeared plate and cup inside the sink.

Miku pattered to her room, changing out of her basic large t-shirt and tiny shorts into her elegant school uniform. A simple buttoned-up shirt and a black miniskirt, along with an obsidian blazer that suited nicely. The tealette quickly shifted towards her princess-like vanity, grabbing some black hair ties and some hairspray.

She began brushing her long, silky cyan locks, ever since she stayed at the hospital, her hair had grown so much it was barely touching the floor. "Man, I wonder if I'll have to cut it, I hope the staff doesn't say anything.." Miku muttered to herself as she continued brushing her soft hair.

Hm...low pigtails or high pigtails..?

Miku adjusted her turquoise locks and quickly made them into high pigtails, tying her hair tie tightly and nicely before spraying some hairspray to finish the touch. She then grabbed her phone and bag, meeting Luka in the elegant living room, she was busy tying her shoes and fixing her bangs last minute like she always does.

"Are you nervous, Luka-san?" Miku asked curiously, making her older sister focus her attention on the younger and smaller girl. "No, why?" Luka says. "Are you nervous?" Miku hesitated but then nodded. "I don't know...I'm just nervous to meet people..." She whispered, fiddling with her fingers. Luka softly chuckled in response, and smiles maturely. "It's okay to be nervous, Miku-chan. Everyone's nervous when they switch schools, and..." her sentence trailed off as she fixed her younger sister's tie.

"If anything happens, just let me know, okay?"

Miku froze on that sentence.

"Ready to go?" Luka asks Miku, who was busy dozing off as she stared at the blank wall.

"Ah!" Miku responded with a warm smile, then nodded, making her turquoise pigtails bounce cutely. "Yeah. Let's go, big sis!" She says as she opens the door before strutting out into the world colored with gray shades of sadness and broken flower petals.

The world filled with angst.
