"If your gut is telling you that someone is bad, is it right or not?"
11:00 AM [Rin's POV]
I'm so confused.
Why the heck did that girl want to know whatever the hell I was feeling?
Whatever. I don't care.
It's not like she would understand me anyway.
That girl never got a reply from me, but I didn't care. Every time I passed by her, she smiled, and it was exhilarating to see her in such a way. The fact that I look at her pissed-off and she acts like it was nothing makes me even angrier.
Why did she smile so much as if nothing was wrong? Why were my eyes always drawn to her smiling face?
Does she feel sorry for me?
My thoughts were interrupted by the chatter that filled the crowded lunchroom, the fragrance of grilled chicken and ramen lingered in the air, it was enough to make me and the students drool over the delightful smell.
Oh god...it smelled awesome...
Amid the bright, yellow walls of the lunchroom, the students sat at wooden tables lined up against the bright orange walls and ate their bento. You could not resist the chicken's aroma, its juicy texture, soft meat, and crisp crust. It was impossible to throw away the wonderful smell of ramen, it couldn't be thrown away.
I muttered as I walked toward the tray area as an arm gripped my shoulder, "Hi Rin-chan!" The voice was deep, like the current of an azure ocean that formed a small dent. "Fukase, you gotta stop scaring me. I'm serious." The redhead just laughed at my response, letting go of me as he grabbed a silver tray, then grinned at me brightly. "Sorry, I was just excited to see you." He says, smirking.
"Whatever, have you seen Gumi-chan?" I ask, setting a cup of ramen noodles on my tray and grabbing some fried chicken. "Nah. She told me she had to stay in for detention since she didn't finish her homework last night. She was too busy taking care of her bro, Ryuto." Fukase continues.
"Ah," I gape, grabbing a scoop of white rice and placing it near my fried orange chicken before Fukase leads me to our table. I sit immediately and sigh in exhaustion, "What's up?" Fukase says, staring at me with those shiny crimson eyes of his. "Nothing," I reply, fiddling with my chopsticks. "I'm just tired. I had to take sleeping pills last week since I wasn't able to sleep."
Fukase gapes, "Damn."
As Fukase and I waited for Gumi, I mumbled under my breath before plopping my head on Fukase's shoulder. "Ah- Rin?" I sigh and shut my eyes. "I'm going to sleep," I muttered. "Don't bother me." Fukase reddened with embarrassment and shyness as he ruffled his red hair, then sighed as he stared at his food with a dumbfounded expression, chopsticks in one hand and the other one empty.
How the heck am I supposed to eat..?
"Um..excuse me?"
A voice interrupted my peaceful sleep, I slightly opened my eyes, before instantly...
I freeze.
Not because I forgot my drink, not because Fukase had accidentally dropped his chicken...
But because the girl who asked me how I was earlier was standing right in front of me and Fukase. No one was next to her. I assumed her sister stayed in class, or maybe she had a different schedule.
"Hi, Kagamine-san!" Miku says, smiling brightly as I clench the edge of the table with fuming anger. "Do you mind if I sit here? I just don't know where to sit, and you're the only one I recognize, so.."
I would have declined, but instead, Fukase responded before I even could bat an eye.
"Go ahead! We have a lot of space anyway." Miku sat down on her seat as we began eating, I fidgeted with my chopsticks as I occasionally spared glares at Miku, who was sitting across from me. "Ah, I don't think we met before. I'm Megurine Miyuki, you can call me Miku." The tealette says as she continues eating her delicious food.
"I'm Satoshi Fukase, nice to meet you." The redhead beside me grins before doing the same as the other girl. Miku cleared her throat and said shyly, "How are you guys?" as she grabbed a clump of white fried rice between her chopsticks, taking a big bite along with some teriyaki and grilled seaweed.
My teeth gritted as I stared at the girl. "It's none of your business," I muttered, furring my eyebrows over her calm gaze as I looked away from the tealette. "Oh, well I was just asking. Sorry to be a bother," She says quietly, continuing to eat her food happily.
Ah...she...
Really pisses me off.
It was silent when we started eating until the girl's phone started ringing abruptly. Her gaze fell upon the contact name and number on the flip phone. Choosing to slide up from her seat, she grabs her silver tray, throws it out in the trash, and heads to the bathroom. "Oh! I'll be back." She says and flies off to the bathroom.
As I ate, I felt Fukase's breath brush against my ear, "Why do you keep looking at that girl like that?" Fukase whispered to me and looked back at his food as he fixed his blazer. "Hell.." I murmured under my breath, slamming my chopsticks against the cold wooden deck. "I don't know, I just don't like her," I murmured under my breath. "Rin-chan, you don't have to be so mean. You barely even know her. She seems nice, you should be nice to her."
I was just a little flabbergasted by Fukase's words, yet a bit confused. I responded with; "I just don't like the vibe she gives me, and it's a bad vibe too. She just...seems odd, Fukase. I'm not sure how to describe it." Fukase responded with a giggle, thinking that this girl was just too amusing. "Oh my God, Rin, you're funny." He patted my hair, which made me blush with shame. "Whatever," I muttered under my breath as I swatted his hand away as if it were a fly.
I caught a small glimpse of Len running up to our table with a bag in his hand, panting heavily like a lost puppy. He finally got here, but he was breathing heavily. Gumi was also behind him, I assumed they had gym class together.
Geez, don't push yourself so hard, Len.
"H-hey! Sorry, I'm..a..bit..late..Haa.." Len kneeled down, catching his breath, his blonde luscious hair was drenched in tiny drops of sweat. "Yeah, we had to change," Gumi says with a gentle tone before her face turns beet red as she sets her attention on Fukase, making me stifle a laugh. "It's alright dudes, we just started eating," Fukase says between munches, I'm surprised he didn't notice Gumi's reddened face.
"Did you have gym class or something, Len?" Fukase asked the boy who caught his attention, shifting his chair to face him. "Uh, yeah. Me and Gumi had to change," Len sighed in exhaustion, rubbing his forehead with the front of his palm. "Remind me not to sit next to you, Len." I sneered, munching a lump of fried chicken. "Seriously, Rin?" Len groaned at my remark. "Jerk." He muttered under his breath.
I rolled my eyes in response. "Anyway, what's for lunch?" Len asks as he places his bag on top of the table, "Fried rice, orange chicken, and spicy ramen noodles." Gumi says as she checks the menu from her cellphone, before speeding towards the lunch line, Len begins following her.
I saw that Miku had come back from the bathroom, and she ran towards our table like she was in a rush or something. "Sorry I took a while, it was an emergency," Miku says, smiling as she reclined against the seat before beginning to use her cell phone. The light illuminated her pale face and reflected off her cyan eyes.
Len and Gumi came back with silver trays in their hands and realized that the new girl was sitting at our table. I could hear Miku snickering quietly in the background as she talked with Fukase.
Her giggles made me irritated.
Miku's small giggles caught the attention of Len. He shifted his eyes towards the giggling girl before his cheeks flushed a small shade of pink. He felt the corner of his lips curve before he grinned widely like an idiot.
Oh.
I do not like that smile.
Miku traced her eyes towards the blushing and grinning boy.
"Oh- um-" He coughed nervously, his face reddening with embarrassment.
Frick, you creep.
"Ah! Len!" Fukase exclaimed, sliding up from his seat, "Len, this is Miku-chan." He grinned, his eyes gleaming. "A-ah, yeah! I saw her on the bus and uh.." Len cleared his throat violently, his face creeping up with a darker shade of red that swirled towards his ears and neck. "I didn't realize you..were a student at this school." He says shyly, scratching his neck awkwardly as he muttered under his breath.
Miku giggles, "Me neither." She smiles ever so gently.
I didn't understand why my brother was fuming red in front of an alien that seemed to be freaking happy all the time. He was like that the moment he laid eyes on her on the bus too.
"I have her for uh, um..." Len coughed, his face clearing up back to his normal feeble expression.
Miku stood there in awkward silence.
"...Biology, reading, and art." The girl tapped her fingers as she spoke about the number of classes she and Len had together. "You didn't forget, right?" She slightly snickered. Len's cheeks reddened a tiny bit, "No, the schedule is just weird for me, sorry." He muttered quietly. "You don't need to be sorry, it's like that for me too," Miku smiled warmly. "I'm Megurine Miyuki by the way, but you can call me Miku! Nice to meet you." She says.
"I-I'm Len! K-Kagamine Len. It's uh...Nice to meet you too, Miku-chan- I mean...!-" Miku giggled lightly, "It's okay! You can call me Miku. I really don't mind." The tealette smiles gently, her pure azure blue eyes gleaming with the faint light.
"Y-yeah, sorry about that." Len laughed nervously as he apologized again.
Rin gritted her teeth as she let out a tiny growl, she didn't like Miku, and she didn't like the way Len was looking at her. It was strange. He seemed to blush every time he was near her, and the more she talked the more her brother reddened.
She did not like it.
I slid up from my seat, the chair legs screeching against the wooden floor, then picked up my bento, fiddling with the chopsticks in between my slender fingers before throwing the leftover food inside the trash can and then facing my brother with a murderous smile, "Hey. Len, we got class soon, let's go." I snarled quietly as I took my brother's arm between mine.
"Hey! What gives?-" His sentence cut off as I pinched his lips in between my fingers, "Shut up, let's go." I gave Miku a deadly glare before leaving the lunchroom with my brother. "What the heck-" He broke free from my strong grip, then sighed in frustration as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"The heck, Rin? I was just talking to Miku-chan." I sneered at his remark. "Talking? More like drooling over a freaking alien from outer space or a different universe. You legit were blushing, dude. I don't like her. And I don't like the way you look at her. " I growled, "I don't trust her, nor do I like her, so don't expect me to be friends with her." Len sighed. "You know I'm an introvert, I don't like talking to people. I do like talking to girls though, more importantly, if they're cute-"
"You pervert!" I slapped his arm, then pinched his ear for even more pain as he yelped in agony, "You were blushing 'cause you thought she was cute!?" I yelled at the top of my lungs, my blood boiling and my face fuming a scarlet red. "I don't trust her, Len. She's hiding something and I know it..!" I muttered under her breath, snarling with bitter anger. "Sigh, Rin..you don't even know her, why are you assuming things?" Len sighed at my statement.
He was right, I didn't know her at all and I was assuming all these negative things about her, gave her nasty glares, and was rude.
But he didn't know anything about Miku either.
"You don't know her either!" I pointed out, "Well, I don't, but I'm not assuming mean things about her." I sighed in response. He was right. "I guess so, but I still don't like her, even if she's cute," I muttered under her breath.
"Funny." Len sneered.
The sun began to set down a little further as the two walked throughout the hallways bickering. "Is Meiko-san gonna pick us up today? Or does she have to stay at work a little later? Oh, is she going out with Kaito-san again..?" I asked, curiously. He stays silent for a while as he bites his lip, he looked hesitant. Almost as if he didn't want to tell me what she was going to do.
"No..she's..." Len sighed in exhaustion, rubbing his temple in annoyance as he stopped his steps.
"Meiko-san is drinking tonight again."
I froze.
"Oh." I say in a dead tone.
At this point, it wasn't even surprising anymore.
Meiko had been drinking for the past few months now ever since my parents left for an overseas trip. Sometimes she thinks that they're dead or something, sometimes she wishes she could support us better but this was what we had to deal with. Ever since my grandfather died, things weren't the same anymore.
My parents didn't give me nor my brother attention, the only 'love' they ever gave to us was to buy us our favorite things. But our grandfather always took us out for ice cream and gave us affection that our parents never had given us.
No wonder they say all good things come to an end...
Ever since then, life's been hell honestly. I don't even know what the heck love is anymore. I don't know what it feels like to be loved by someone special or close, it just seems unreal.
What is love anyway...?
"Hey, Rin, you coming or what?" My brother says between chuckles as I break apart from my thoughts. "Yeah, sorry," I say before running up to my brother and heading to our class quietly and silently.
I mumbled under my breath, sighing in frustration.
"I'm going to my locker, see ya." I grumbled, stuffing my hands inside my pockets as I shifted away from my brother. My blonde pearlescent locks were coated over my pale face, which gave me a zombie like expression, at least I thought so.
But I wasn't going to my locker.
I was going to go to the bathroom and cry.
"See ya." I hear Len whisper, before tears helplessly rolled down my cheeks.
