Suyin's pretty face twisted with rage. Lin lit up a cigarette, knowing what was coming her way.
"Oh, now we're talking to criminals" her tone was accusatory
"That one sure ain't what I expected when I think of the glorious Beifong coalition," Zolt smirked as he winked at Lin. Su only turned red. She was so angry.
"Were not doing this today, and he's an informant of mine." She turned to Su and the surprised group. She hid a slight smirk. She hated how excited she got when Zolt was in a room, his warmth, and energy.
"You were working with the police this whole time," Mako said, shocked his old boss was a snitch to his current boss. Zolt was a snitch after all he preached.
"Aye, look, kids, remember when I told you always keep your eyes peeled when you involve with people and talk business, or it might bite you in the ass, this one. This one right here will do it." Zolt's Bo song accent filled the tense air.
Lin rolled her eyes. "Wasn't a cop then," she inhaled from her cigarette.
"Allegedly, y'all are never cops till your cops," Zolt said, taking her cigarette and taking a puff for himself.
"And you guys don't know anything till a lawyer gives you a plead deal." Lin snatches her cigarette back. It was a stub.
"Touché" Zolt puts his hands up. Lin gives him a surly look.
"Listen, Zolt. I know you never got that bending back, and you aren't involved with anything, but as the biggest snitch in the game, I would keep my accusations to myself." She held a cigarette at him
Mako and Bolin look at Zolt, surprised, he's been cool with the cops this whole time despite all that big talk, or maybe it was Beifong their chemistry; they were a fun vibe together.
"I'm doing it for my court trials if you yahoos ever catch me. Besides, might as well do a little good." He notices Lin still waiting for him to light her smoke.
"What am I a dam lighter?" Lin gave him a look, so he lit it for her, even though he peeped at the lighter next to her. He didn't understand this woman.
"Seems you are." Smoking in his face with a smirk, pushing her food around, she had decided to take a seat ignoring the collective eye rolls. Kya began to wonder if Lin had an addiction. She sure got around a lot.
"Wow, gonna do me like that after all we been through, frosty." Zolt decided to eat from Lin's plate-like he owned the place. Lin didn't mind. She did mind that he called her his little pet name, though.
"Alright, Zuzi. You said you had info from when you made me at the spot last time, their spill, and quit your flirting. It isn't gonna happen." She held a tiny smirk. He dies a bit inside
"your name is Zuzi," Bolin screamed, laughing hard. Nobody could stop the laughter that erupted from him.
"That's criminal, Beifong." Zolt felt the embarrassment.
" I told you to stop calling me that. You were warned." Lin said, teasing. She chuckles a bit.
"But you unnaturally cold, you never got that looked at by a doctor." Zolt defended.
"It is true, Lin, your body temperature is cold," Kya said. Su and Tenzin agreed.
"Try kissing her. It's like making out with an icicle, "the fire bender remembered when they lost their bending, and she wasn't a police chief. He wasn't the most significant criminal in republic city. They were just like they had been when they were 16 and dumb.
"How did you end up meeting at all? I don't understand this, all your lecturing." Su was still angry even with the explanation they were both nobodies in their youths. Lin thought back to how nobody knew she was a Beifong until she arrested Su. Her mom did her no favors or cared about her safety despite Lin swallowing herself to be easier for her mom to like her. It had been the biggest waste.
" I wasn't a cop. He was a street urchin but not a real criminal. You were 10. Mom made me go undercover remember, you stayed with Katara while Aang and Tenzin were at the Eastern temple. Tenzin had broken up because he wanted to focus on impressing his dad for his arrows." Su closed her eyes, trying to remember.
"I only remember something happened to you, and mom and Katara got into a big fight. How did you do police work at 16? That wasn't legal age."
"Nobody had figured out all the laws; Toph had better things to do. She decided since she saved the world at 12, I could work for her at 16. They later made the laws we know." Lin felt old discussing this.
"That broad was the biggest criminal of them all, letting her extraordinarily good-looking underage kid work at such a dangerous sketchy territory." Zolt chimes in, " Back then, the cops did whatever they pleased, the biggest syndicated in all of Republic City. I like the new chief better. She gives a dam."
Lin shrugged, putting all the bad that happened in that shit show beside her, thinking it was dangerous to reminisce. "We're few good times had."
"How else were you going to meet characters like me and that sleazy shoe shining fraud Hiroshi Sato." Zolt joked, forgetting who was there. Korra immediately put her arms around Asami as her eyes fell.
"Wait a minute, all those stories you told us, were you…." Bolin had an epiphany.
"You were talking about Lin" Mako realizes where Bolin was going, he was embarrassed some of those stories were wild.
He felt a punch as Lin looked over to Asami. Lin gave her an apologetic look.
" Geez, I forgot you earth bender dames are strong." Zolt held his chest.
"What are you, a moron." If words were knives, Zolt would have died of 1000 cuts. Zolt observed the room and saw Hiroshi's daughter, and realized it wasn't the stories. He took off his hat and brought it to his chest.
"My fault, Miss Sato. I forgot my manners." He was honest.
"You mean the manners you learned in the gutter," Lin said harshly.
"Ah, frosty, you hurt an ol' man." He rubbed his chest
"Good," Korra said, not happy that was all the man had to say.
"What was your information before you hurt more," Lin said
"You guys still remember those stories about 136," Zolt said to Mako and Bolin. They nodded. It was always cool to them 136 sounded like a great time.
"It's ancient history, now the information. I got places to be."
"Especially since you went from drinking me out of house and home to shacking up with the president," Zolt said, ignoring the second half of what she said.
"Not true," Lin lied
"That's what the word is. You spend a lot of time around him." Zolt smirked, knowing she was caught off guard. People had been whispering for the longest.
"It should have been us for real, though, You telling me to forget about it, but it ain't a chance I'll forget. Too bad baldy had to ruin it, not that it was meant to be clearly," Zolt said, putting his hat back on and fixing himself up in a flirty manner. Lin fought a chuckle, and he sounded jealous of her, which was cute despite knowing it could never happen. It was written in the red thread that way. Fated or something, she thought.
Tenzin rolled his eyes; he felt less remarkable somehow. Lin gave him most of her life, but he felt like he only got a tiny bit of it.
"So how were those undercover days Lin," Bolin asked. Lin decided she wouldn't discuss that.
"Well, I'll admit I couldn't wait for my mom's job to make sure stuff I went through never happens again." She looked down at her empty plate the smell made her so hungry, but she couldn't eat. " I wanted to make cops help people, not themselves. to push for the right thing." Su noted the melancholy in her voice. She reckoned whatever happened may have explained why she was so uptight when Su was 12.
"Well, you did that and more, chief," Mako said, deducing it must have been awful back then, especially with the stories he knew.
" Now that you picked my brains, you have 20 minutes to tell me the intel you guys got. I have to get on top of things at work." Lin huffed
"Well, frosty. I got ears that something big is going down at Ro Nok village. Big red monsoon action tonight, so keep your peepers open.
"Been a lot of action by Yue Bay lately. It checks out." Lin nods.
"Many big names been going missing too, also got word from a kid I used to help, he and his pals were messing with this guy like the Avatar's age, thin messed up teeth, guy loses it. His eyes turned red, and he...finished one of the bastards just like that, muttering about his mother coming back for him to get back at world leaders. They split after they saw the guy cut him down."
Mako stood up, " Haruk mentioned the guy taking his bending had glowing red eyes. That was all I got from him, but it has to be the same guy."
"So, somehow, the dark avatar reincarnates into an adult human." Bumi proclaimed.
"How could that be thought" Tenzin whispered
"That we won't find out anytime soon," Kya said. She looked at the time Lin would have to go. This was all so much she had a bad feeling something would happen tonight. The air was screaming for chaos. Lately, Vatuu would always seek out Raava, but now they would circle each other in human form forever.
"You guys should discuss this further on Air Temple Island if I can; ill catch up. Let's hope nothing awful happens tonight." Lin sighed, she almost felt like not going back this felt urgent but she had to do the budget and get everything done.
"Well, I'm splitting I got some cold ones and a game to watch," Zolt said, heading out. He kissed Lin's cold hand, and she looked at him like a drooled-up chew toy. "Thanks for your information Zuzi." She smirked. She thought his name was cute. It wasn't the only girl's name she ever screamed or anything.
Lin threw them out of her house before heading out as well, heading to her car. She looked up at a rather beautiful full moon and thought of Sokka before getting and driving to city hall.
"That Lin is something else."Kya said while they sat around the dinner table.
"I'm worried about Vaatu. How are we going to fix this? Will, I have to fight a new dark avatar for the rest of my lifetimes,
"It may not be a dark avatar. Jinora is researching ancient texts to find out if there is any more information on the avatars cycle." Tenzin assured Korra.
" But what if we can't stop them? It sounds like all my enemies are coming back to haunt me."Korra felt so overwhelmed.
" We just have to take it one step at a time," Asami assured her girlfriend
" Have I even accomplished anything if they're still running rampant?" Korra angst
"I think we should infiltrate into the Red Monsoons," Bolin said
"No." Everyone said in unison.
"There are too many things at play. No," Mako said softly.
They heard a heavy breath, a limping man with three braids and a damaged face.
"Tarrlok, what is the meaning of this," Tenzin yelled, not wanting to see another of Lin's lovers.
" It's the police station, Haruk. He still has his bending. He blood-bent himself out, and a group attacked the police station."
Still sick, doing my best, love you all. Feedback appeicated.
