It was late at night in a parking lot a few miles out of the city and Nina was anxious to conclude the deal. If the Mexicans were to find out what was going on, she would have little time to get out of there.

She glanced over at the man she had come to meet, who was busy whispering to one of his crew. Turning to talk to one of her own, she had been about to speak when a bullet smashed into his forehead.

Freezing, she raised her hands to her chest before turning as her men fell one by one. As soon as the last one fell, she found herself at the wrong end of several guns.

The man sneered at her. "It's nothing personal, we decided not to pay you for your services."

She scoffed and stared straight into his eyes, not willing to show any of the fear flooding her mind. He surprised her by pulling out a gun and aiming it, going against everything she thought she knew about him. Stokes wasn't one to get his hands dirty.

"Goodbye, Nina," he spoke in an almost gentle tone before pulling his trigger.

Time seemed to slow so much that she could almost see it flowing through space. She had braced herself for the fatal wound as soon as he had fired, but the bullet didn't reach her. Instead, it hovered in mid-air, almost exactly halfway between her and Stokes.

He couldn't believe it either. "What the hell?!"

Nina looked down at her hands. She turned them to examine her palms and as she did, the bullet dropped like a stone.

That seemed to shake him out of his thoughts. "Shoot her!"

She was quick to raise her hands again, as if she knew what was about to happen. A constellations of bullets froze in the air and once more, they fell like rocks as she lowered her hands. Silence fell as everyone came to the same baffling conclusion.

Stokes stared at the bullets. "This isn't possible…," he muttered.

Nina examined her hands again as if expecting anything different before she got an idea. Raising her hands once more, she thrust them forwards. Stokes and his men flew backwards as if hit by a ferocious wind.

He scrambled to his feet and wasted no time in making a break for the car. "Leave her, let's go!"

She smiled as his men rushed to join him. Once they had sped away, she turned to look at her own dead colleagues. She could do nothing for them now, so she headed for her own car. No point in hanging around.

Once she was back in her hotel room, Nina sat down on the edge of her bed and contemplated the strange events. Both time and space had bent to her advantage, but how and why? Was it a one time event or something permanent?

Glancing at a cup on the table, she decided to conduct an experiment. She raised her hand in its direction and thrusted it forwards, sending the cup crashing into the wall.

For a while, she stared at the shattered remains before turning her attention to the lamp stood next to it. This time, she decided to try and move it without using her hand. It took a bit more effort, but soon enough it was floating in the air inches above the table. It crashed back down when someone began to speak.

"I don't know who you are, but those powers aren't yours."

Jumping to her feet, she looked around but saw nobody else in the room, before she realised. The voice, that of a young man, had come from inside her own mind.

"Powers? Who are you?"

There was no reply from the man. Sitting back down, she decided to give her new abilities a break.
