Spooked by the strange events, Nina had left her new abilities well alone. Despite hearing the voice loud and clear, she had almost convinced herself that it was a trick of the mind. What stopped her from believing it completely was her own actions. Stopping bullets in mid-air, throwing people backwards, manipulating objects with her mind. Whilst she could explain away the voice, she and others had seen herself bend the laws of physics. She had grasped hold of time and space and twisted them to her benefit.
She had left Mexico and now found herself in a rural part of Argentina, but it seemed news had also gotten out. People in certain circles knew of the strange events and she worried that CTU would find out. If they were to discover that she had escaped from North Africa, they would not hesitate to let Jack off of his leash.
It was the middle of the night and she was in the middle of another deal. So far, everything was going to plan for both sides but she was growing more anxious by the minute. She was always alert for any sign of trouble during these meetings and it felt as if it was about to break out.
The woman she had come to meet glanced over at her. "I've heard rumours about what happened in Mexico," she remarked in her thick German accent.
Nina smirked, surprised by how long it had taken her to mention the stories. "Don't believe everything you hear, Mia."
One of Mia's men grinned and walked closer to her, keeping his eyes on Nina. "Look out boss, she might be dangerous!"
She looked at him and nodded. "I would like to see a demonstration."
Mia lunged for her gun but Nina and her men were quicker.
"Like I said, don't believe everything you hear," Nina said before squeezing her trigger. Instead of a bullet crashing into Mia's head, she felt an intense pain in her own. As soon as it subsided, she tried again before the pain came rushing back and she realised. Somehow, she wasn't going to be killing anyone any time soon. At least, not through conventional methods.
"Sorry, I should have said something. Didn't realise you got into so much trouble."
The voice was back, but she had no time to attempt a psychic connection with the strange young man. Instead, she dropped her gun and raised her hands, much to the amusement of Mia and her men.
"She's going to show us her little trick," the same man from earlier commented.
Nina smirked at him before thrusting her hands forward, sending him to the dusty ground. He cursed at her before trying to stand back up, only for her to push him back down again. "You should leave," she warned.
Mia stared at her and the man in turn, not needing a third demonstration of Nina's abilities. She ordered them back to their cars, wasting no time in getting out of there. Nina and her own men did the same.
They drove for miles through dark countryside before stopping once they felt it was safe to do so. Nina climbed out of the car and walked into a nearby wood, where she leaned against a tree and closed her eyes. She tried her best to connect to the voice. If it was someone else out there, they could help her understand.
"You look like my mom."
Her eyes flew open and she scanned the area, but the only other people around were her men. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes again.
"Your mom?" Nina replied, hoping none of her men could see or hear her.
"Yeah, somehow her powers got transferred to you."
An image of her doppelganger finding herself without her special powers came to mind. Then came the flood of questions she wanted clear answers to. Why had she acquired these abilities? Who were these people?
"We should meet."
Nina got the feeling that the young man had heard her thoughts before considering his words. Did he realise he was talking to an internationally-wanted terrorist? Regardless, she wanted answers and he had to have some idea who she was. "Where?"
"New York."
New York? She had enough to worry about without going back to her own country. CTU had to know of her escape by now.
"We can hide you, Nina. Give you those answers, too."
