Re—Alcohol Consumption

It has come to our attention that alcohol consumption has dramatically increased among army personnel, especially among those who are currently fighting in Korea. We find this to be a very disturbing trend, and we would like to "nip it in the bud."

One unit with an especially heavy drinking problem is the 4077 MASH Army Unit. According to evidence supplied by the Officer's Club on the base, enough alcohol is consumed to provide an average of 3 glasses of beer, wine, or hard spirits to each man and woman on that base PER DAY. This does not count the local bars frequented by the 4077 personnel.

Therefore, in the next several days, we will be sending special staff to this unit to provide counseling with them on their alcohol consumption. Also, we have ordered an across-the-board 10% reduction in alcoholic beverages being sent to the 4077's Officer's Club until further notice. We are considering similar actions for other units in Korea.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
