It has been a while because I'm very lazy and will only ever write anything if I have a whole heap of motivation and way too much time. Now it would be reasonable to spend such time on the schoolwork that I'm not doing too well in so that I can actually get a job in the future but nope here I am writing fanfics.
Well here's a toradora fic because although I said I'd do more avatar and a fullmetal alchemist fic or two I have quickly descended into being a weeb. So expect mainly anime fics now for a variety of series.
But anyway the idea for this comes from how I always have enjoyed fics from the perspective of a bystander to our main characters. The best example I can think of is "I kid you not", a full metal alchemist fanfic by Poisoned Scarlet.
I have always liked running gags in shows and this fic is centred around the gag of Ryuuji and his intimidating eyes that contrast his generally kind personality.
Well that's pretty much everything, I would like to dedicate this fic to my good friend whom I forced to watch about 4 episodes of Toradora before he stopped but don't worry I'll probably watch some Bleach to make it up to you. Probably.
Should also mention anything in italics is the thoughts of Hikari aka the receptionist.
Hikari Sugimoto enjoyed her work. Being a receptionist was delightful and she was always proud to guide clients into the quaint office space. It also afforded her time off to spend with her husband and children.
The small company she worked for was full of friendly and respectable people whom she could almost consider as family.
So she had to ask herself "Why was this man here?"
The intimidating individual had only just stepped out of the elevator, a mere 10 minutes before lunch break.
"Maybe he's got the wrong floor" she prayed to God.
However it was obvious by the terrifying smile on his face after double checking the floor number that this man wasn't mistaken.
He then proceeded to stalk towards the reception desk while still sporting that grin.
"Ok. It'll be fine he's probably just a client I haven't seen before, sure they didn't tell me to expect anyone but maybe they just forgot it's ok. Just smile and greet him Hikari." She thought trying to collect herself and do her job to the best of her ability lest she embarrass the company and cause them trouble.
"Welcome sir! How can I help you today?" She said with a beaming smile, thankful her voice didn't betray her nervousness.
"Mrs Takasu. Mrs Taiga Takasu. Could I see her please?" He said with what could only be described as the most terrifying grin the receptionist had ever witnessed, looking at her with those terrifying eyes that seemed to stare into her very soul.
Taiga Takasu was the small and energetic young woman whom worked in Human Resources. She seemed happy with her life and Hikari spoke with her often and was friendly with the young woman.
"Eh? Why is he grinning so much and why does he want to see Taiga?" The receptionist contemplated the possibilities and arrived at the only logical conclusion.
Such an intimidating individual could only be one kind of person.
Yakuza.
He may call himself a "Honourable Businessman" or a "Member of a Chivalrous Organisation" but it was obvious he was a Yakuza member. And by the looks of that wicked grin he was sporting he very much seemed to enjoy his line of work.
He was definitely up to no good and if Taiga was involved Hikari would try her hardest to keep her safe. However she couldn't imagine how Taiga would of gotten involved with such a scary individual. It was absolutely mind boggling unless... her husband had been having money problems. Perhaps he had taken out a loan with a shady individual and wasn't able to pay him back so this man in front of her had come to collect from her?
"Do you have an appointment um sir?" She squeaked out hoping she could find a way to keep Taiga out of his clutches.
"Don't worry she knows I'm coming... I warned her I would be if she forgot." He said.
"I'm sorry sir but I believe Mrs Takasu is on her lunch break now, it'd be best to check in later." She lied, in truth lunch break wasn't for another 6 minutes however if she could stall she would be able to guarantee Taiga's safety for today at least.
"Really after all she put me through and now I still have to take care of her on my day off. I'm always cleaning up after her as well although, I do suppose cleaning up is one of my favourite things to do. But anyway she forgot something very important so I'm here to make sure that she doesn't forget it... ever again. It's better that she's on her break that way I won't disturb her work." He replied. Cleaning up??? She could guess what the euphemism meant, and It was obvious that nothing would deter this man from seeing Taiga. So she had quickly come up with a plan to hopefully to try to drive the man off.
"I'll go fetch her right away sir" she said and then got up from her desk and went to the Human Resources department.
She had a plan and although she felt bad about it it was for the sake of her dear friend.
She went and sought out Akira Yuki another employee who worked with Taiga at the Human Resources department. The young man had only been hired recently and frequently sought out guidance from Taiga. And it didn't take a genius to see that he had a bit more interest in Taiga than normal. If Taiga wasn't married she was sure that Yuki would of asked her out on a date long ago.
"Yuki there's a man at the reception and he's a bit scary could you come help chase him away please?" She begged in a soft voice hoping to be given his assistance.
"Huh? Get some other guy do your dirty work Sugimoto I'm not interested." He replied bluntly.
"Ah well it can't be helped hopefully he won't do anything bad to Taiga." She grinned upon seeing his reaction.
"Heh? T-T-Takasu senpai well I mean I guess I could help I'm about done my work so I'll do it" He said trying to seem nonchalant however any hope of appearing as such was squashed by his reddened cheeks.
"Works every time." She remarked mentally.
Now she just had to find Taiga.
It didn't take long as she could be found at her desk frantically looking for something.
"Hikari have you seen my lunch? I could've swore I had it this morning but I can't find it anywhere now ." She asked while her stomach let out a loud growl.
"I haven't seen it Taiga however I think there's a bigger problem." She said.
"What is it Hikari if someone turned up this late without giving notice don't think I'll let them off the hook. They should stop being a coward and just come to me now." She stated bluntly.
"Well I think with how you were yesterday when the new guy from the accounting department came in late because of their party everyone would be a little afraid of you but that's not the point. There's a man who wants to speak to you and he seems a bit... dangerous." She said trying to politely describe the terrifying gentleman who had arrived at reception.
"Huh? What do you mean I don't know anyone like that... oh. I think I er might have messed up a bit." She said looking apologetic.
"Huh what do you mean Taiga?" Asked the receptionist.
"It's fine I'll go and clear this up." She said almost looking a little happy.
"Huh? What's with that look? Is she looking forward to having to deal with such an individual?" Hikari attempted to comprehend the situation.
However it seemed from her stride that Taiga was far from afraid of whom ever awaited her and the slight spring in her step might have even indicated that she was eager to see him for some odd reason.
Hikari followed and they soon arrived at the reception desk.
It seemed that Yuki had already beat them there and he was trying his best to seem unintimidated by the man however a blind man could see he was shaking in fear.
"Listen man I don't know what business you have with Taiga but judging by your... em you er look like you're up to no good so if you would please leave!" He exclaimed with all his gusto standing defiant.
"Huh? What about how I look? I even dressed up a bit and you're telling me I look like I'm up to no good? Who even are you kid??" He growled. His grin from earlier now replaced with a scathing glare.
This looks bad. I didn't think Yuki would react so aggressively. The receptionist was now begging to regret getting his assistance with this matter.
"I'm um um M-Mister Takasu!!! So what exactly is your business with my wife!!!" He was clearly now enjoying this fantasy he had concocted to ward off the man.
Hikari visibly shook from the pain it caused to hear that sentence.
While Missus Takasu herself had a pained expression.
The man clearly wasn't enjoying it.
His face now had a look of pure rage and hatred upon it.
"Pfft. HA-HA HAHAHAHA HA!!! That's a funny joke but if you'd do everyone here a favour and keep your mouth shut I'd appreciate it." The man said still laughing maniacally.
"What? What's so funny huh? I'm Mister Takasu. You think I'm joking or something because I'll tell you right now I'm-" He started only to be cut off
"Ugh" The groan originated from Taiga who was clearly unimpressed by the whole situation. She strode up to the man ready for whatever was about to transpire.
Taiga...you're so brave.
"That's enough. Yuki thanks for sticking up for me but never do it again." She said unimpressed.
"And you" she turned to the man glaring at him defiantly.
"...rry" she mumbled under her breath.
Now sporting his grin from earlier the man looked down at her. "Hmm. What was that? I didn't quite hear you?" He said enjoying her meekness.
"Ugh. I SAID I'M SORRY YOU IDIOT!!! You happy now?" She said angered by his attitude.
"Aside from all the trouble you gave me yeah I'm happy. Anyway I'm guessing you know why I'm here?" He said somewhat menacingly.
"Yeah I got it I said I'm sorry and I saw the text in my phone there now but still couldn't we have done this in the building's lobby?" She said now embarrassed by the whole situation.
"I was waiting for like 30 minutes there and you didn't show up so I came here." He explained.
"Ugh fine just do it." She said her face gradually reddening.
Hikari saw the man's hand go behind his back into a bag he had with him.
He couldn't have a gun or a knife. There's no way he would do something with so many people around.
He reached his hand out holding the bags contents and then...
Bonk
"Oww" Taiga squeaked from the pain and began rubbing her head to ease the pain.
The weapon was a small blue box just like a bento box.
Scratch that it was a bento box.
"Umm Taiga what's that?" Hikari asked clearly immensely confused about the events that had led them to this point.
"It's um my lunch I forgot it at home this morning."Taiga explained with a tomato red face.
"So why does he have it?" Hikari still confused inquired.
"Um Ryujii didn't have work today so he brought it for me." Taiga said.
"Ryujii?" Hikari asked.
"Ahem I'm Ryujii. Ryujii Takasu." The man stated.
It finally clicked.
Especially for Yuki who was now a mixture of distraught and terrified at the situation he had put himself in.
"So you're Taiga's husband? You're a bit different from how I imagined." Hikari said.
She had heard Taiga talk about him enough that she had formed a certain image of what he was like.
A great chef, clean freak and incredibly handsome was how Taiga had described him.
Compared to what Hikari saw in front of her he didn't quite fit the image she had in mind.
"Yeah. I get that a lot." Ryujii explained somewhat embarrassed. "So who's this Darling?" He said glaring daggers at Yuki.
"This is Akira Yuki he just started here in the HR department." Taiga explained
"Hmmm. Sorry if I had you worried especially given how I look." Ryujii said clearly enjoying making the young man squirm.
"Um yeah no worries sorry about everything. I'll uh leave yous to... whatever." Yuki said embarrassed and then slinked away presumably to cry in the bathroom.
With everything resolved Hikari had begun talking to Ryujii for a moment while Taiga went off to the canteen to eat.
"Did you make all of that bento? Must of been a lot of work although I suppose Taiga is eating for two now." Hikari explained with glee.
"Uh huh. I mean she always did eat enough for two but now she is eating a bit more and she's asking for really odd dishes." Ryujii said somewhat confused by what the receptionist had said.
"That happens I was like that with my first one. It was hard but it's all worth it once they grow up!" She said with joy.
"W-wait a minute um-"
"I remember the first time I held my cute little Yozora after she was born. So adorable!" She continued.
"Huh w-what?"
"And her first words."
"Wait hold up."
"And her first steps."
"Um I-I slow down a minute."
"I know fatherhood seems scary but my husband was also very worried about it but now he loves it."
"F-fatherhood?"
"Don't worry I'm sure you'll be a great dad!"
"WHAT?" He shouted finally getting her attention.
"Oh sorry I was just excited to be able to talk about the baby with Taiga that I got carried away." She said with a beaming smile.
"What baby?" Ryujii asked looking on the verge of having a panic attack.
"Your's and Taiga's of course! We were talking about it last week." Hikari exclaimed gleefully.
"..." Ryujii merely sat there with a blank expression on n his face.
"You do um know right? That Taiga is pregnant...right?"Hikari asked realising she had made a mistake.
The moment that the words reached his ears Ryujii let out a great shout.
"TAIGA IS PREGNANT?!?!?"
It echoed throughout the halls alerting everyone in a 5 mile radius that Taiga Takasu was indeed pregnant.
And it seemed to summon her as well as it wasn't long before she was marching up to him her fists clenched.
And the last thing he saw was an uppercut to his chin.
He awoke on a bench in what he assumed to be the office canteen with his head in her lap.
"You awake?" She grumbled.
"Y-yeah."
"You remember what happened?"
"Yeah."
"Ah."
" I was going to tell you but I got nervous and I couldn't find the time and then I was really stressed out and we had that fight and and and-" She rambled on.
"It's fine let's go home and we'll talk about it."
After excusing herself from work and receiving several congratulations from her coworkers ( including a very embarrassed Hikari and an emotionally destroyed Yuki) Taiga and Ryujii headed home.
"How far along is it?" He asked.
"8 weeks."She responded.
"I'm sorry I really meant to tell you but -"
"It's fine I'm not angry... just surprised... and happy really really happy."He explained.
"It feels weird that it's happening though." He continued
"We we're in high school 6 years ago and now we're having a baby."
"Yeah it's kinda exciting though right?"
"Yeah. We'll do a lot of new things. Shopping for baby clothes, a crib and all kinds of things."
"Yeah. It is exciting isn't it? Like I wonder who it will look like? Hopefully it isn't cursed with those eyes of yours or else it will be doomed in life." She teased.
"Hopefully it isn't tiny like you." He teased back.
This seemed to have a more profound effect on her than he thought it would of.
"Ryujii what if when's it older it's bigger than me? How weird will it look if they can't tell who the mother is and who the child is?"
"It's fine it's not like I'm that tall and besides it might be like Yasuko and she isn't that big."
"If it take after Yasuko then it'll definitely be bigger. But Hikari said I'll grow when pregnant and it might be a boy and then I don't have to worry."
"Huh why would you get taller because you're pregnant? And usually boys are taller anyway?" He asked confused.
"I mean they get bigger so the baby can feed and obviously boys don't have-" she stopped red in the face.
"Huh what don't boys have? And how would you getting taller feed it? Why are you blushing?"
Suddenly the realisation dawned on him.
"Oh you mean that."
This only made her face redden further.
"P-PERVERT STOP THINKING ABOUT WEIRD THINGS?" She said as she began hitting him.
"Huh I didn't say anything."
"You're always thinking and doing weird things and now look I'm pregnant you better take responsibility!"
"Of course I'm not going to up and leave you I'm not like him!"
She had forgotten that it wasn't just her who had family issues.
"Don't worry Ryujii I'm sure you'll be a great dad. And if you aren't I'll beat the crap out of you to make sure you are."
"Thanks. Aren't you worried though?"
"Of course I'm worried the closest thing I've had to a mother is Yasuko and that was only for a little while."
"Yeah. I'm scared that I don't know how to be a dad."
"I don't really know much about being a mom either but I think we'll manage. If we love it and keep it safe isn't that enough?"
"Yeah it'll work out I'm sure of it."
With that they had dinner and got dressed for bed. They slipped under the covers and cuddled.
"Ryujii?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
He blushed a little upon hearing that and his normally menacing eyes now shined with admiration and love towards her.
"I love you too."
She smiled upon hearing this and cuddled further into his arms.
They were together beginning the next stage of their lives together and preparing to welcome a new life into the world as well.
Soon their family would expand and Mister and Missus Takasu couldn't wait.
Oh geez this took a while. I was going to completely get rid of Yuki because I thought he would be to prevalent but I decided against it because upon looking at it again he isn't really in it that much.
I'm happy with how everything went although I feel the character are a bit ooc, I said yeah way too much but I couldn't think of what else to write instead so sadly you must suffer my poor writing.
The reason I finally finished this after like 4 months is I got and idea for a fic (a multi chapter probably although no more than 6 chapters I'd say) that I want to write but didn't feel comfortable leaving this unfinished first so yeah.
Since writing that intro author note I have watched 8 episodes of bleach and don't really plan to watch more soon. Not that it isn't good I just can't really be bothered to.
Anyway see yous take care of yourselves and be well.
