CHAPTER 2: SNOOPY AND THE SASQUATCH
Snoopy was in his Beagle Scout gear packing up his comping equipment. Charlie Brown, Sally, and Wyatt looked on from inside the house as he was packing up. He and the Beagle Scouts were going out camping in Monte Woods, but this was no ordinary Beagle Scout outing. They were on their way to find an elusive, mythological creature.
"What do you mean he's going to look for a Bigfoot?" asked Sally to Charlie Brown.
"Well, that what he and his scouts are doing, Sally," Charlie Brown replied. "Even after I told him that there's no evidence of any sasquatch out there, he insists on hunting one down."
"A What-squatch?"
"Sasquatch, Sally. That's another name for Bigfoot. They're also called the Yeti in Canada. For mountainous, snowy areas, they are also called the Abominable Snowman."
"Man, that's a lot of names for one creature."
"The Bigfoot doesn't eat kids, do they, Charlie?" asked Wyatt.
"I don't think so, Wyatt," said Charlie Brown.
"Will you protect me from any that comes this way?"
"Sure, Wyatt, I'll protect you." Sally snickered a bit. Charlie Brown took notice. "Problem?"
"No, no problem, b-big brother," said Sally, stifling her laughter. Charlie Brown stared at his sister for a moment, then went outside to talk to Snoopy. He had everything ready for his outing.
"Snoopy, I want you to take this beacon with you," he said to his dog, handing him a light beacon. "It's bright enough for folks to see where you are in case you and the scouts are in danger. Plus, it will help you find your way at night." Snoopy saluted his owner and went to collect the Beagle Scouts. Woodstock was the first to arrive, seeing how he lived near the Browns. He and Snoopy went to pick up the other scouts. As they were leaving, Frieda and Kennedi were walking in.
"Hey, sweetie," Frieda greeted Charlie Brown, giving him a kiss.
"How are you, Charles?" greeted Kennedi.
"Okay," said Charlie Brown. "Snoopy and his scouts are going to try to find a Bigfoot."
"Seriously?" giggled Kennedi.
"You have no idea what kind of adventures Snoopy goes on, Kennedi," said Frieda. "If only he put that much effort into hunting rabbits, he'd be a great hunting dog. But I digress."
"So, what's on the agenda for today?" asked Charlie Brown.
"Kennedi wanted to introduce you to her new boyfriend named John," said Frieda. "They've been going out for a while. He said he'd meet us at Joe's Café."
"Well, that sounds good to me," said Charlie Brown.
"You'll love him, Charles," said a happy Kennedi. "He also loves sports like you do."
"I think we'll get along pretty well then," Charlie Brown responded. And the three of them left for Joe's to meet up with Kennedi's new boyfriend John.
Snoopy, along with Woodstock, Bill, Conrad, Oliver, and Raymond, who was a purple bird compared to the yellow birds, were all in Monte Woods to hunt for Bigfoot. They had made camp just on the outskirts of the main neighborhood.
"Okay, troops," Snoopy began, "we will make camp here for tonight. The round-headed kid left me this beacon in case of danger, so if you hear anything out of the ordinary, let me know and I'll light this so in case of danger, we will be found. Conrad, have you brought the food?"
"|||| |||| ||| |||," Conrad said.
"Hot dogs and marshmallows?" said Snoopy. "Well, we have most of the important stuff, if Bill remembered what he was supposed to bring."
"|||| |||| || |||||," chirped Bill.
"Okay, we have root beer, good," said Snoopy. "Woodstock did you remember the hot dog buns and the graham crackers and chocolate candy for the s'mores?"
"||||| || |||||| ||||," Woodstock replied.
"Good job, little buddy," Snoopy said to his best bird friend. "How about you Raymond? Did you bring a lighter to light the campfire?"
"|||||| || ||| ||||||," said Raymond.
"Nice," said Snoopy. "Now, Oliver, did you bring-" At that moment, multiple campfire forks came flying through the air. Snoopy and the birds backed up. Then Oliver walked up to the group and smiled. Snoopy sighed.
"Good job, Oliver."
