More than war
This will be my very first fanfiction to write. This is based off a dream my friend had that i found really interesting, so she and i decided to make a story off of it. i hope you enjoy it!
Disclaimer: I do not own my friends dream. imagine if you could, though...
More Than War: Chapter 1 Sahara's P.O.V.:
The sound of battle was my wake up alarm. Rushing out my bed, I would spy through my window to see the ink black sky, with the stars gleaming at me. When I managed to get dressed and open my room door, I wasn't surprised to see a armored man waiting for me. "General," I nodded. "Who has attacked us?"
"It's the chaos kingdom once more, M'lord." The general replied, aggressively palming the hilt of his blade. "Cowardly bastards struck in the middle of the night." Walking past him, he would follow soon after, with both of us going at a brisk pace.
Sighing, I would shake my head. 'Why must it come down bloody battle once again?' I would lament in my head. 'Why can't we go back to the peaceful times like in the past?'
Making my way to the balcony, I would look at the battle below, frowning. The chaos kingdom's soldiers would slowly be advancing into our lands, their ambush paying off massively. Seeing the bodies of my people, people who won't be able to go home and see their family again, laying on the ground lifelessly, would cause my blood to boil.
"General La'fey!" I would snap to the man beside me, who stood at attention. "Yes, M'lord?" He would reply. "Go ring the alert, get the rest of the soldiers and summoners ready, at once." I would let out a breath, gathering my energy. Nodding, La'fey would begin to run for the alarms, while i would begin releasing the energy i have gathered.
"Spirits of the spirit kingdom," I chanted. "The kingdom of chaos would attack us once again." Arcane runes and hieroglyphs would begin to appear along my hands and arms as i continued, "Grant us your power, to defeat those who invade our home." Glaring at the enemy army, i would finish my chant, "I summon you, hieratic dragon king of atum!"
The air in front of me would begin to ripple and shimmer, as a cobalt hand would reach out of it, with a humanoid-looking dragon soon coming out of seemingly nowhere. Looking at me, the dragon king would kneel soon after, awaiting my command.
Pointing at the battlefield, i would say, "destroy our enemies." Nodding, the dragon king would then stand up, and take flight to the battlefield. I would look away, my rage cooling into a bitter sadness as i listened to the army of chaos's shouts of fear and pain, and the roars both my people, and the dragon king.
After i summoned the dragon king, the battle would become a land of blood, corpses, and flame. The remaining chaos kingdom army would have retreated, their numbers seriously reduced, while the ones that died, would be buried on the battlefield floor. our people would be taken back inside the kingdom to be buried for whatever loved ones they had.
As i watched as multiple men were taken to crying families, i came to a realization. 'We can't keep doing this. how many corpses will we need to bury, before we can finally have peace?' And with that, i made up my mind, and went to go talk to my father, planning out what to say as i walked to his room.
Walking up to my father's door, i would raise a hand to open it, hesitating slightly, before knocking on it. "Father...?" Waiting with a bated breath, i would smile as he answered. "Come in, come in!" Opening the door, i would walk inside.
The inside of my father's room would look more like a study. large fireplace, multiple bookshelves, a desk. the only way to truly tell it was a bedroom was the actual bed on the inside. on the bed would be my father, a wizened, stocky man with dark spectacles sitting on the edge of his nose and a kind smile on his face.
"There's my little prince." He would say with a warm tone in his voice, his hand reaching out to rub my hair affectionately. "Father, please." I would say with feigned exasperation, making no attempts to move his hand away. "I'm almost to be king, i'm not a little prince anymore."
Sighing, he would take his hand off my head. "Ah, i forget how fast time has been. 19 whole years! my little boy has grown." Wiping a tear from his eye, he would give me a watery smile. "You're looking more like your mother every day i see you now." That had caught me off guard.
I never got to meet my mother, as she had passed away soon after i was born. I heard she was a good person. Kind, but firm as well. Watching my father, i could tell he was going to forget i had came in as he would travel through his memories for my mother, so i cleared my throat to remind him that i was still here. He would blink, then regard me with a bashful smile.
"Heh, my apologies sahara. Now then, what brings you here? I've already taught you all you need to know about both ruling the spirit kingdom, and how to summon the spirits." Now that it was my turn to speak, i coughed a bit, then answered. "Father, i want to call a meeting between kingdoms. the war has gone on for too long." I would nervously gulp as he quickly turned serious, turning his full attention to me.
"A meeting?" He would question me, looking quite stern. "Y-yes, a meeting." I would stammer out, wincing as soon as i heard the stammer. "I-i know that the last one didn't quite work out, and that's what lead to all this, but i think if we just tried aga-!" I would quickly stop talking as father would sigh heavily, moving his glasses to massage the bridge of his nose.
"Sahara..." Father would say, looking tired. "I understand you want peace between us, but i just don't believe it can be done anymore." Moving to the window, Father would look out of it solemnly. "With the attacks from the chaos kingdom and it's allies, as well as rumors of a new kingdom arising, i daresay there might not be a chance for peace ever again."
"That's not true!" I would say, surprising both my father and myself for an outburst like that. "Sahara, i-" "No!" I would interrupt my father, not wanting to lose this burst of adrenaline i had and silently agree with not even trying. "I don't want to live like this anymore! I don't want to live as a king, with my people always worrying if the next army would be our death! I refuse to live, killing the people who used to be my friends! I know it won't be possible to always live in peace, and i hate that i won't be able to, but i will not stand by and be a king if i can't even say i've tried for peace!" Breathing heavily, i would suddenly realize, with increasing fear, that father had gotten closer to me while i was rambling, his face unreadable.
"Father, i-" I would flinch as he raised his hand, only to blink as he patted my head again, before looking at his face again. His previously stony face now had a hope filled smile resting on it, looking at me with pride in his eyes. "You really are just like helena." Taking a few steps away, he would then walk to a basin filled with water. "I will call for a meeting to be held in a month's time. prepare all you can to convince the kings and queens of the other kingdoms, and maybe this will work." Nodding, i would run out of my father's room to mine, smiling again.
