Hello everyone, and welcome to The Dark Kingdom! I'm your host, Ani!
So believe it or not, I started writing this fic back in October-November-ish 2021! I was wondering how the Dark Cacao Kingdom chapter in CRK would go, and decided to write my idea of how it'd go! So this fic is a bit different from other fics I've written for the Cookie Run series, but I'm trying my best!
Usually I try to have more of a fic done before posting chapters, but then I heard that the Dark Cacao Kingdom update was going live next week so... guess it's now or never. I'm probably not going to have a lot of time to continue writing this fic (I'm working on my Senior Project! Animation is hard), but I'll also probably not have a lot of time to play the update, so I'll work on it as I can and try to ignore anything I see about the update. I have a general idea of how it goes, it's just not finished yet!
All that aside, let's get started!

The next part of their journey, judging by Dark Enchantress' trajectory, would take them to the Dark Cacao Kingdom. They really needed to try and beat her there, and help defend the kingdom from her reign of terror. The only problem was…

"We may not even be allowed in!" Wizard Cookie said.

"What do you mean? Why wouldn't we be allowed in?" Gingerbrave asked.

"Why, the Dark Cacao Kingdom has a history of being incredibly harsh to outsiders. It's extremely rare for anyone to be welcomed through their gates—even some of the greatest wizards have been turned away!"

"Really?! Oh, no…" Strawberry Cookie whimpered.

"Indeed! The magics of the Dark Cacao Kingdom are heavily guarded, as are the gates, surely!" Wizard Cookie paused a moment, a hand to his chin. "In fact, if they sense that Dark Enchantress is coming, I don't imagine any arrival will be taken well at all!"

"But what if we tell them we're there to help?! They'll understand then, right?!" Gingerbrave asked.

"I'm not so sure… but we have to try! I seriously doubt the furthest extent of Dark Enchantress' plans is to send Licorice Cookie to participate in a princess contest. "

"Alright! Sounds like a plan! Now, let's run as fast as we can to the Dark Cacao Kingdom! We have to get there before Dark Enchantress does!" Gingerbrave held up a fist, and his two friends cheered before giving him a high five. And then they were off!

"Somehow I knew I'd still find you here."

Dark Choco tensed a moment, then sighed, still not moving from his seat on the tree stump. Behind him, just at the edge of the clearing, stood Pomegranate Cookie. She'd lifted the hem of her robes so as not to dirty it, and seemed less than pleased to even be here—let alone see him here.

"What. Do you want." Dark Choco Cookie sighed.

"Our Master shared her plan with you hours ago, and yet you're still sitting here wallowing in self-pity. Why haven't you gone to complete your task yet?!"

Dark Choco Cookie said nothing, he didn't even turn to look her way. He just stayed where he sat on his stump, hunched a bit, looking down at the ground. The only break in the silence for a single moment was a raisin crow cawing in the distance, the sound of the wind in the trees. A storm was brewing above, as one always was.

Pomegranate Cookie quirked a brow, then let out a laugh. "Wait a moment, I believe I've just realized… are you afraid, Dark Choco Cookie? Are you afraid to see the destruction you wrought upon your own kingdom so many moons ago? Are you afraid to see just how much those people hate their former beloved prince?"

Dark Choco Cookie's brow furrowed into a fiery hot glare. " You…!"

"It's not as if any of that matters, after all! As soon as Dark Enchantress Cookie takes over, you won't have to worry about that any longer."

"You think that's what I'm afraid of?" Dark Choco Cookie growled.

"So you admit you are afraid of something , then?"

Silence, yet again.

"Truly, I don't see what our Master sees in you. You're nothing but a pathetic wretch, too haunted by his past to be efficient at anything besides getting in the way."

Dark Choco continued to glare at her, but still didn't speak. Pomegranate Cookie tilted her chin haughtily as she stepped further out from the shadows of the tree line.

" Now. If you leave for the Dark Cacao Kingdom immediately, I will leave you to your work." she met Dark Choco Coookie's eyes with an even glower as she continued. "But if you've not left within five minutes , I will have the mercy to inform Dark Enchantress of your insolence, so that she may decide your punishment."

Dark Choco scoffed. "Truly, is that all? You claim to be so powerful , yet all you can threaten to do is go running to your Master crying that I won't cooperate with your demands? I don't see what she sees in you—! " before he could finish, his vision flooded with scarlet, his senses overloaded by the sound of screams. For a moment, he saw an image of himself, being torn apart by candy cane hands and cake hounds, strawberry jam pooling the grass around him, disembodied wicked laughter taunting him all the while.

The image faded, and as he blinked the stars from his eyes, he saw Pomegranate Cookie standing in front of him. He'd fallen to his knees, so she towered above him in that moment, a stern scowl on her face.

"I suggest you get. Moving. " she said.

"Y-You know… you aren't capable… of such things…" he growled, picking himself up.

"Test me again, and you'll find out."

The two Cookies glared at each other, scarlet eyes meeting maroon, daringly, challengingly. But before too long, Dark Choco turned away.

"You're not worth my time." he muttered, nevertheless picking up his sword and heading off with a sweep of his cape. Pomegranate Cookie smirked to herself as she watched him leave, turning with a huff and picking up the hem of her robes before heading back to where Dark Enchantress' loyal followers had gathered.

"Whoa…! Is this the Dark Cacao Kingdom?" Gingerbrave asked, looking around with wide eyes.

The sight before him was amazing. Pearlescent white buildings, their backs to a dark forest and a milky white river. The ground was covered in a fine dusting of sugar flake snow, bright white from the sun's light beaming down on it.

"It's the beginnings of it. This is a village of the Milk Tribe! There's a few villages of theirs that surround the Dark Cacao Kingdom's outer gate, so it's certainly a sign that we're getting close!" Wizard Cookie said.

"Do you think they'll let us in…?" Strawberry Cookie asked hesitantly. She tugged at her hoodie's drawstrings when she spotted a group of guards walking down the street, surely on their way to patrol.

"Well, we'll find out soon. We should start making our way to the gate, and—"

"Pardon me?" a voice suddenly said. The three Cookies turned to see two Cookies behind them—one clearly a Milk Village warrior, the other a purple dreadlocked warrior who didn't look like a Milk Village warrior. "Are you lost? Do you need help?"

"Oh! We're trying to find the gate to the Dark Cacao Kingdom!" Gingerbrave said with a smile. "It's really important!"

"Yeah, well, so's what we were busy with, remember?" The purple warrior grumbled, turning to the milk warrior. "We're just here to grab more supplies and head back out, we don't have time to say hi to every random kid we—"

"Well, we can certainly help you with that! Though, why do you want to visit the Dark Cacao Kingdom? Trade is pretty regulated, so I dunno if they'll give you any magic items without a pass." The milk warrior said. The purple warrior groaned, but objected no further.

"We need to get to the king!"

"Oh, well, good luck with that! I get the side eye even going near the gates, don't think some kids'll get as far as the king! " The purple warrior laughed.

"Purple Yam Cookie, please, be nice!" The milk warrior scolded.

"I-It's very important!" Strawberry Cookie interjected, clutching her lollipop close. "The kingdom could be in danger!"

"Yes, it's crucial we get to the king! We have to warn him of Dark Enchantress' approach!"

The milk warrior's eyes widened. "I-I'm sorry, did you say Dark Enchantress? As in, the one from the Great Flour War?! "

"Sounds like we could be in for a fight! " Purple Yam Cookie smirked. "This sounds big. We can forget about our journey for now. "

"Right! We'll get you to the gate, and do our best to help!"

"Thank you! Oh, right! I'm Gingerbrave, and this is Strawberry Cookie and Wizard Cookie!" Gingerbrave said.

"I'm Milk Cookie, and this is Purple Yam Cookie!"

"Let's get moving! " Purple Yam Cookie said.

"How far are we from this gate anyways?" Wizard Cookie asked, hurrying after the two warriors as they headed off.

"The first gate is a bit further north, through the forest some, but I know the way! I need you to stay close, though—this is cream wolf territory, and they aren't the only threat we'll face!"

"Cream wolves? Th-th-those sound scary…" Strawberry Cookie said quietly.

"One cream wolf isn't a problem on its own. But if we run into a pack of them, then that may be an issue."

"Nothing my club can't handle! We'll get through here just fine!" Purple Yam said.

"Lately, every few moons, the cream wolves have been grouping up and trying to invade the village to get to the sacred well. We're not sure why, but we've been fighting them off for so long now that I can barely remember a time before it. But the first time they tried it, my word, it was quite an onslaught of them!"

"Oh, not this story again…" Purple Yam grumbled, crossing his arms with a huff.

"Whoa! What happened then?! An onslaught of wolves like that…!" Gingerbrave gaped.

"Why, it was then that the prince of the Dark Cacao Kingdom arrived, just in time to help us fight them off! He even saved my life! It was that day that I decided, no more slacking off on my training, I'd do everything I could to be as strong as the hero who'd saved me! And that's why I'm the warrior that you see before you!"

Gingerbrave and Strawberry Cookie gaped up at him, eyes wide in awe at the tale. Purple Yam Cookie just rolled his eyes.

"He gets like this every time." he muttered, looking over to Wizard Cookie—the only other cookie who hadn't been utterly transfixed by the story. "Hey. Something on your mind, kid?"

Purple Yam was correct; there was a lot on his mind right now. If he recalled correctly, wasn't the prince of the Dark Cacao Kingdom… wasn't that Dark Choco Cookie?! But he'd saved Milk's life! Wizard Cookie just struggled to accept it. If he was a hero, why was he fighting by Dark Enchantress' side?! Why was he trying to stop them from ending Dark Enchantress' nefarious plans?! Why hadn't his friends realized that quite yet?!

But something about Milk Cookie… he looked up to that Cookie highly, even though the prince had been 'missing' for quite some time. Should he tell him? Or…

"I'm just… worried about the wolves, is all. If they nearly crumbled Milk Cookie, and he's so strong, I…"

"Oh! No need to worry about that! That was many years ago! I've worked hard to become a warrior since then, as long as you stick with us, we can keep you safe!" Milk Cookie smiled.

"Oh! Well, hearing that, I certainly feel reassured!"

"Then let's be off!"

That's the end of this chapter! Thanks so much for checking out what I've got so far! As I mentioned before, I can't promise that I'll have more updates anytime soon, though I do want to continue this fic!
This fic wouldn't be postable at all without my betas! Thanks so much to desaturatedsilver, sweetsuke, and croisstring, who you can find on Tumblr!
See you guys around! If you want more Cookie Run content in the meantime, I'm still really proud of my fic Fear the Jellywalkers I did a few years back! Fair warning, though, it's very tonally different from this...
