I have always hated the ending, I hate how Pam handles it and also how quickly Jim i decided to rewrite it for my own enjoyment. Hope you all like it too.
"Mum I gotta go."
She turned, struggling with what to say as Jim neared. She did try to speak. To say something worthwhile and understanding and maybe even slightly humorous to put an end to the tense awkwardness that his confession had brought. She could hardly believe it. He loved her! It was wonderful and awful at the same time. As he came closer she found the words bubbling up but nothing came out as he reached down and captured her lips with his and she was unable to stop her hands from sliding along his jaw and holding his head down. For a few blissful seconds she felt more at peace and cared for than ever before until the thought of –
"Roy"
She pulled away sharply, eyes widening as she pressed herself up against the desk tightly. His hands still holding her hips gently and she had to force herself to look away from his gorgeous brown eyes that held so many emotions.
"I can't."
He slowly pulled away from her, hands sliding from her and he took a step back, his head lowering as he tried to get his breath back and unjumble his thoughts but not before she saw the pain, the anguish that shone from his eyes.
"I'm sorry I didn't…erm, I mean I should –"
"Its okay just give me a moment. Please, I just…just wait."
He took another step back and slid his hands into his pockets in a move so Jim that she felt herself fall for him all over again. She closed her eyes tightly and felt the knowledge flowing through her veins. She thought of Roy and instantly the guilt and regret swarmed through her. Her fiancé. The man she'd been with for so long. Who hadn't even complimented her on her dress. Who hadn't encouraged her love of drawing. Who thought pranks were 'childish' but who loved the foosball table she got him for his birthday. She looked back up at Jim who was now looking to the side at her desk with look of such pain and love that she had to look away. How had she not known? Or maybe she had but hadn't wanted to. Hadn't wanted to make the choice or wanted to risk it. He knew her so well. He had been there since the start, had also considered her feelings and was absolutely her best friend who knew her likes, dislikes and absolute hates and who she felt so much for.
She decided on her leap of faith. She didn't think she'd ever felt quite so terrified and out of depth but as she made up her mind she'd never felt anything feel as right as the idea of being with him.
"Jim I do want… I want to be…"
He started towards her with a glint of something so strong in his eyes that she almost gave in but turned her head and his lips landed on her cheek instead.
"But I'm with Roy, he is my fiancé and has been for three years and I owe it to him. If we're going to do this then I need to talk to him first. I won't…I can't do this to him. I'm not a cheater."
The slow grin that she loved spread over his face and this time there was a gleam of hope that didn't disappear and he took a few steps back.
"I don't know Beasley, you've definitely taken the last coke more times than needed."
"Hey! I resent that remark."
The teasing had returned to their tones and lightened the atmosphere as they gazed at each other with identical looks of happiness and contentment. With a shy glance away from him and then her gaze returned and she stepped up to press a kiss on his cheek and simply enjoy his presence.
"I'll see you tomorrow."
She went to leave but he quickly caught her hand in his.
"Have dinner with me. Not tonight or even tomorrow but soon…please. We can go out or stay in and I could cook though it will be leftover pizza though if you're really lucky I might add some fish fingers."
"Practically a gourmet meal." They shared another smile and she nodded, her eyes sparkling with joy and he felt his stomach lurch in an all too familiar way when it came to Pam and her smile. "I'd love to."
"Then we'll talk soon?"
Pam nodded again sharply and quickly and that beautiful smile never left her face. With one more glance to each other Pam left. Alone with his thoughts Jim rubbed his hands over his face the smile that broke through stretching from ear to ear and shining from his eyes as he looked into the camera giving a shrug and a chuckle before he also left giving a high five to the sound guy.
