It was a quiet day at the base and Coulson had ordered everyone to stay away from Daisy's room unless it was an emergency so that she could have some time to catch up with Lillia.

They talked about everything. Daisy was the one mainly doing the talking since not much had happened to Lillia that Daisy didn't already know.

Since Daisy had already decided that Lillia was staying it meant that she could tell her everything, even the most classified things. Also, if she didn't then Lillia would find out later through hacking into SHIELD which Daisy knew she would do.

Lots of tears were shed and lots of hugs were given. The only time that the two were interrupted was when Jemma knocked on the door with two plates of the dinner that Mack had cooked. They ate in in Daisy's room.

At around midnight Daisy fell asleep, exhausted from talking as well as crying.

Lillia was tired too but couldn't fall asleep. Every night she had a nightmare which she had learnt to deal with but she didn't want Daisy to find out about them and worry. Especially since Lillia could do nothing about them. No amount of talking helped.

That was why she quietly sneaked out of the room. She had seen where Daisy had placed the pair of crutches that the hospital had given her when they had first entered the room and so used those in order to get to the small kitchen and living room which they had passed on the way to Daisy's room.

Once there she rested the crutches against the arm of the sofa and hopped over to the counter. Every hop made her wince since the pain from her broken rib seemed to increase every time she jolted it.

Lillia managed to grab the bread before giving up entirely and just grabbed the butter that had been left out and the knife that had not been put away before using that to spread the butter onto the bread.

She felt May's presence rather than heat her come in. While May was still at the door, Lillia turned her head quickly to look at her with pleading eyes.

"Don't tell Daisy."

May's expression remained expressionless but Lillia felt her soften slightly.

"I won't."

There was silence after that as Lillia continued to butter the bread. Once she had finished with the butter, May took it from her and placed it back in the fridge before she could turn to do it herself.

"You can throw a punch."

Lillia scoffed, smiled sadly and shook her head.

"You learn quickly when in an orphanage and especially when they put you into foster care."

May kept her emotionless expression but stayed where she was in front of Lillia leaning on the counter while Lillia picked at the bread she had buttered.

"Why did you think Coulson and I were Daisy's parents?"

Lillia looked down at the counter before looking up and watching May as she began to talk.

"Daisy was always trying so hard to find her biological parents because they were the ones that had the greatest chance at accepting her even though, at the time, she thought they had been the ones to give her away. It's all an orphan ever wants is a family, to be loved unconditionally. She found you and this team. You and Coulson were more of parents too her than anyone else has ever been. Now that her biological parents are gone she can see that. Why do you think she's been avoiding you?"

May looked slightly confused which Lillia saw.

"She hurt you over a person who may have some of the same genetics as her but a person that she had only met a week before. May, she is ashamed to face you because of what she did to you and what she said. She is worried that you will never forgive her and doesn't believe that she deserves your forgiveness anyways."

After her speech Lillia turned back to her bread and had practically finished eating it before May spoke again.

"What about you? Are you looking for your parents too?"

At that Lillia's eyes snapped up and she shook her head slightly angrily.

"Biological parents not parents and no. They were shot by a neighbouring drug gang as they had started selling drugs just after people believe I was born. The gang tried to kill me but the police came just in time and took me too a hospital where they saved my life. Those people who died are not, and never were my parents. The only thing they found in the house that gave them any information on me was my first name. Daisy always hoped for her biological family but I never could."

Lillia shook her head and finished eating the bread. Once she had finished eating, May took her plate before she could complain and placed it in the dishwasher.

"Did you ever hope to find a family?"

Lillia smiled sadly as a memory popped into her head. She carefully hopped over to the sofa and sat down. May helped her by slinging her arm around the girl and under her opposite arm.

It took Lillia by surprise as to how much she loved this physical contact and had leaned into it.

As soon as she had sat down May sat down beside her. Lillia looked down at her hands as she started talking.

"You know, Daisy and I, we were placed in many foster homes together. The longest time that either of us stayed at a foster home was 6 months and we were there together. I was 9 and Daisy was 15. The first 4 months were amazing. It was a young man and woman who couldn't have children and the genuinely cared for us. They made me start to hope in a way that no foster home ever had. You know they actually sent us to school! Didn't even make us cook dinner!"

A big grin had spread over Lillia's face while May tried to hide the sadness that she was feeling. For some reason she felt the uncontrollable urge to hug Lillia.

"It was my fault that everything went wrong. I was sick at school during the middle of the day. Daisy refused to leave mg side and the woman was called in order to pick us up. She came right away but umm…"

Lillia sniffed as she tried to wipe the tears that had started to fall down her face away.

"She got into a car crash and was killed on impact."

May couldn't control the urge any longer and moved closer to Lillia so that she could wrap her arms around the girl. Lillia leaned into the touch as she started shaking uncontrollably. May started stroking her head.

"Shh. You don't have to tell me the rest."

She felt Lillia shake her head.

"I need you to understand."

May loosened her grip slightly but didn't stop hugging the girl as she continued talking.

"For the first week after she had died, her husband forgot about us. We made our own food and still went to school but had to get up early in order to get there on time. After the first week he started drinking and got violent. He blamed us both for what happened. Daisy could see that it was over. Our time of happiness had finished but I had hope and wouldn't leave. I told her that he could change that he could still look after us and it could be like it had been before. She didn't believe me but wouldn't leave without me. After that day I didn't let him hit her. I took all the beatings but Daisy never knew because I was quiet but would provoke him so that he focused his attention on me."

Lillia shook her head and the shaking started again so May grabbed her hand. This seemed to steady her.

"It got really bad and after three weeks of it he broke my arm. It was in a banana shape and that was the day that Daisy took me too the hospital. I knew that the husband wouldn't want to pay for the fees and so didn't want to go but Daisy took me anyways. It took me a long time to forgive her since, in my head at the time, she ruined my chances of ever having parents. After that experience I gave up. Made myself the difficult child so that everybody took me back as soon as they could though most of the time they were violent so I ran away. The police always caught me until I was around 13 when I escaped for good."

There was a pause and May thought it was the end of the story but didn't say anything and held Lillia closer though was careful not to touch her leg. She didn't know about the broken rib.

"Hope always ends in disappointment. Daisy was always better at not hoping than me…"

May shook her head and Lillia felt her do it since May's head was resting against her own.

"Hope is not like that. You, Lillia, have two choices in this situation. You can stay with us or you can leave."

Lillia shook her head then.

"I don't have two choices. I want to stay but I can't. You will tell me to leave just as I am beginning to believe that I could stay and that you really want me here."

At that May pulled away and looked Lillia directly in the eyes so that the girl could see that she wasn't lying.

"You are not going anywhere. Not unless you want to. I won't let you and Daisy certainly won't. I know you don't believe me now and I know that only time can prove this too you but if you believe that I am like a parent to Daisy… you are Daisy's sister."

May shrugged her shoulders with a small smile while Lillia seemed to feel slightly better.

"Now something a parent would do is ask why you are up so late and I know that it isn't because you were hungry."

Lillia smirked before relaxing fully back into May's chest as some where in the middle of telling May her story she ended up pressed right up against her with her head on her shoulder.

"I sleepwalk. This is all me talking to you in my sleep."

Lillia giggled and May smiled at how quickly this girl could rebound after having to retell a clearly traumatic experience.

"I know that's not it. I have seen Daisy sleepwalk and you are clearly not sleepwalking."

Lillia turned sat up slightly in shock.

"She sleepwalks!."

May smiled wider before pulling Lillia back into her chest.

"Sometimes… but you still haven't answered my question."

Lillia sighed and contemplated not saying anything but May had stayed with her and not run away after she had told the woman her story.

"I get nightmares but there fine. I have learned to live with them but I don't want to worry Daisy."

A comfortable silence descended again. May knew that when she got nightmares she would usually end up punching a punching bag of doing Tia Chi but those were both things that Lillia couldn't do with a broken leg. She also knew that the amount of sleep she got on those nights was not healthy.

"To prove that you are going anywhere, I am going to stay right here and you are going to sleep. I can always move to another sofa if you would like but this way I can wake you up if you have a nightmare."

Lillia was already half asleep and exhausted but smiled and laid down on the sofa fully. Her head was on May's lap and her legs were tucked in as much as she could tuck them in with a cast on one of them so that she was curled into a ball.

That was how she fell asleep and had the first nightmare free sleep in years.
