Chapter 6
Jimmy met Lucas in the yard the next day after he dropped Eli off at school. He motioned him into the barn.
"Your Mom should be on her way back with the girls."
"That's good."
"We got bigger things to worry about. It's time to check up on that list."
"I know. It's best to just get this over with. I'll head out today."
"You are not going by yourself. I'm already packed. Get ready to ride in twenty minutes. We leave now and we can be back in a few days."
Lucas nodded and walked over to the bunkhouse. Tate brought Jimmy his horse out already saddled.
"Thanks Tate."
"You sure I need to stay?"
"Yeah, I need you to watch things here. This is mine and Luke's mess to figure out. I appreciate the offer though."
"I will look after everything until you get back."
"I'm putting my trust in you, Tate. Try to keep them out of town. That's the best advice that I can give you. Oh, and you better make damn sure no more goats show up."
"Now, you are asking too much."
"Tate."
Tate laughed and walked over toward the house. Jimmy waited until the girls made it back home. He saw them giggling and laughing. Lou right in the middle. He shook his head. Damn they were so proud of themselves. Lou stopped when she saw him standing there with his bedroll. She climbed down and walked over.
"Heading out?"
"Yeah, he needs to sort this out."
"I know."
"Can you keep those girls out of trouble until I get back?"
"I think I can." Lou smiled.
"Can you keep yourself out of trouble until I get back?"
"Now that, I seriously doubt."
Jimmy laughed and pulled Lou to him. He leaned down and kissed her. She smiled as he pulled away.
"Hurry back. We got a wedding to put on."
She went over to hug and wish her son good luck. Luke spoke with Penny before mounting up. Penny looked like she wanted to cry so Lou moved to stand next to her.
"No matter what he finds, he loves you. Everything will be fine."
Penny nodded and wiped her eyes as Jimmy and Lucas rode out the yard. Teaspoon made his way over along with Rachel carrying Garrett.
"Why is everyone looking so glum?" Teaspoon asked.
"Really?" Rachel asked rolling her eyes.
"I know what we all need. I will get right on it."
"Stop! Hold it! Exactly what do we need?" Rachel asked her husband.
"More goats!"
"Oh, hell no!" They all yelled at once.
"Come on now. What's wrong with goats? I'm thinking we need some baby ones."
"We said no!" Everyone said again walking off.
Teaspoon walked over to the goat pen. He looked at the goats. Uh, oh. He didn't see them all. He looked around when he heard Lou start cussing. He eased away from the pen and made it back to his house.
