Chapter 8
Lou looked up a few days later as a young man rode into the yard. He carried a rather large package. She made her way down the step to where he was waiting.
"Hello." She greeted him.
"Mrs. McCloud?" He asked.
"Yes, that's me."
"Here ya go. I was told to deliver this."
Lou took the large package and looked at it.
"I wasn't expectin anything."
"It's from the dressmaker. Your husband stopped in town a few days ago and left strict instructions to have those dresses delivered here. He paid extra for it."
Lou looked at package and had to laugh.
"Thank you."
The boy nodded and rode away. Lori came down the stairs as Lou sat the package on the table.
"What we get?" She asked.
"Our dresses."
"Delivered?"
"Yeah, your father will go to no bounds to keep us out of town." Lou laughed.
Lori laughed with her.
"Tate and I talked about it. We would like to be married out by the barn."
"In the yard?"
"Yep. It suits us. Sides that, we have "special" memories there."
"Lorilei."
"Seriously. In our yard."
Lori snatched her wedding dress and smiled as she carried it upstairs. Lou went to get Annie and Penny when she heard Rachel shouting outside. She grabbed Garrett and ran out thinking something was terribly wrong. She froze and started squealing. Buck and Dakota were in the yard. She raced across to them.
"Look who I found!" Rachel exclaimed as she hugged Dakota.
Teaspoon was hugging Buck.
"The place looks great. It has really grown." Buck said taking it all in.
"It's so good to see you!" Lou cried as she hugged Buck then Dakota.
Buck looked to see Annie, Lori, and another girl standing on the porch. A young man and Eli were looking from by the barn.
"Sorry, you remember my girls and Eli. That there's Penny. Luke's girl and over there is Tate. Lori's soon to be husband."
"Husband?" Buck asked.
"Yeah, I'll fill you in. A lot has been going on."
"And when did this one happen, Lou? You keeping secrets now?" Buck laughed.
"Oh, no. This is Luke's. We think."
Buck blinked in confusion.
"Like I said, a lot has happened. Never a dull moment here."
"Where's Jimmy and Lucas?"
"Out, don't worry I will tell you everything."
Just then something ran between them. Then something else. Then something else.
"Come back you stupid fuckers!" Eli shouted as he ran behind his goats.
Tate ran between them. "Sorry, sorry." He mumbled as he tackled a goat that started screaming.
Lou closed her eyes. Rachel stepped over.
"Ya'll can stay at our house. We have plenty of room and trust me, it's much quieter."
Rachel started leading the family over to her house.
"You remember our girls?" Dakota asked.
"How could I forget!" Rachel grabbed each girl in a big hug.
Buck, Dakota, Rain, Sparrow, and Rose made their way through the eruption of goats. Teaspoon swatted a goat with his cane to make it run the other way. Lou was hollering at anyone who would listen to catch them. Eli was cussing a mile a minute and Tate was wrestling another goat to the ground. Buck put his arm around Dakota and smiled.
"I've missed this. Nothing ever changes."
"Wait til they hear the news." Dakota replied.
