The Ending of Encanto, the movie, showed that the narrow path through the mountains could still exist and people could pass through it. So what happened if so…
Author's note: Reading about Encanto, it seems the creators were aiming for the late 19th to early 20th century as far as when Encanto begins (the miracle first happens.) Since the Titanic, or rather a close copy, appears in the movie, I'm placing the End of Encanto around 1963. (1913 plus 50 years from the movie.)
Note: the color photos are out of time, but you could take B&W photos and hand paint them in color. Some of Bruno's statements and such were wrong for a 1913 start, but his power could cause it.
I am not Spanish nor do I know Spanish, so I will use English terms. With the exception of Abuela and maybe Senor/Senorita. (I would have preferred Grandmother/Grandma but Abuela was used too often in the movie.)
Door scene Night of the Casita's return
The celebration, which began earlier, was still going on. Most of the Madrigal Family have taken the time to go to their individual door's and make sure the magical room behind the door was like it was before, which they, basically, are.
The exceptions are Bruno and Mirabel.
"No. I lived without it for 10 years. I am not entering that room. That's final, Mother." Bruno said to Alma, as they stood at the bottom of stairs in front of his room.
Alma's eyes flick to his glowing door, to the crowd, and then her family. Her gaze rested for a second on Mirabel, who frowned and shook her head. Then she stared into Bruno's eyes, a very nervous and sweaty Bruno, and took a deep breath. "Casita, my son will need you to prepare a guest room for him." Bruno does not collapse since Mirabel was holding him up.
She hugged her son. "I still believe you will need to use your room. But, there is no reason for it to be tonight." She whispered to him. "When you are ready, we will be here for you." She said in a firm and loud voice.
The rest of his family converge on him, telling him that they agree with Abuela's advice.
A few of the villagers start to express their disappointment, but a glare by Abuela quiets them instantly.
The Family then moves to Mirabel's door.
During the rebuilding of the Casita a separate room next to Luisa's was made for her.
It is where her room was to be 10 years ago, before it faded away.
This Door, though, was different and made without magic. The Craftsmen that made the door carved their good wishes into it. When they finished it, they passed it around the village and many of the villagers painted or carved their own wishes into it.
Somehow during the party, or perhaps before, her family had also written their hopes for her.
Her name carved into the door was glowing, the Door was not.
Nothing happened when she touched the doorknob. The quiet was oppressive as the door swung open. The room was basically the same as it was when she visited it last.
The bed and dresser are second hand. New furniture was being built but won't be ready for a couple of weeks. All the furniture throughout the House was like this. The craftsmen of the village are working on new furniture, but they want them to be perfect before they would give them to the Madrigals.
The Village could make plain wallpaper, but it could not make patterned butterflies like she wanted. So, she'll have to do it herself, although her painting skills are poor, so the artist of the village murals will do it, based on her sketches.
Her Singer has its own small room, with shelves for fabric and thread. Although the Singer was missing, it was still under repair. In the room, clothes are on the shelves and in a basket is another pile of cloth. Everybody's spare clothes vanished in the collapse. Plus the villagers have requested her to embroider their clothes.
Months of work, maybe a full year. Mirabel was happy with it. Maybe this time when she embroidered her family's clothes, they won't wear it once and then 'forget' to wear it again.
As they have done before. (And one the pieces she made for Abuela was the best thing she ever made. Now, though, it vanished with Abuela's Door.)
Mirabel slowly entered the room, the rest of her family hung back at the doorway.
However, on her bed were some gifts. Gifts from her family and the rest of the Encanto. "Where did they come from?" She whispered as she stared at the pile.
"We were hiding them downstairs." Julieta replied quietly from behind her. "The plan was to give them to you during the party, but the return of the Family Gifts." She shrugged. "Changed things. I don't know who put them in here."
The Casita started to talk via the tiles.
"You brought them here?" Mirabel said in a surprised voice.
A short reply from Casita.
Mirabel slowly turns to her family, tears in her eyes. "Could I have a moment alone?"
"Yes, of course." Her Mother replied, slowly closing the door. Leaving Mirabel alone.
Author's note: The remaining part of the scene should be in song. Based on "Waiting on a Miracle"
But I never could get the words to work…
Mirabel fell on the bed, crying.
Time passed.
"When I touched the doorknob, I received a Gift. I can see the magic." Mirabel's irises have a golden tint, now. "Why is my room different from everybody else's?" She whispered to herself.
The Casita talked.
"You Casita?" She quickly rises from the bed, lifting her glasses and wiping her eyes. "You stopped the room from changing? Why?"
More talk from Casita.
"It would have destroyed the door and this room, and you did not want that to happen." She looks at the door. Her Iris's glow slightly. "It is… Lovely. I can see… It was made with love. I…" She wipes her eyes again.
Casita added some more comments.
Mirabel frowns, "that makes no sense. I won't disappear."
More explanation from Casita.
"You can't sense us in our magical rooms. Right, I forgot that." She drops to the floor and places her hand on the floor. "Casita." Her eyes glow. "I am so sorry. I didn't understand. You love me. And you didn't want me to leave you."
She looked around the room, at the gifts, at the door and at the House. "Love. Magic is Love. Our Gifts are Love." Her eyes close. Tears fall. "You were so worried about me." She rubbed the floor.
A deep breath, then she stood, walked to the window and looked out over the Encanto.
"Love. So many shades, so many types." She spun around, clearing her throat and removing her glasses and rubbing her eyes. "I love my door and my room. I wouldn't change a thing."
She closes her eyes and turns her head. "And I wasn't seeing things, I can see even with my eyes closed." She bumps into her bed. "Well, there are some things I can see and some I cannot."
Her head snapped up and her golden eyes opened. The House was too quiet. The party should be happening, and it should be loud. She can see Her Family and some of the villagers standing on the other side of the Door.
"They know, right?"
Casita replied.
"Who told them?"
Casita replied sharply.
"Mom and Dolores, hmmm. My mother was at the door and well, Dolores is Dolores."
She opened her Door.
The House erupted into cheers.
End scene
Mirabel's Gift. She received the ability to sense and control the raw magic found throughout everything. She wanted to KNOW how much her Family loved her, being able to sense Love is how her Gift responded. As time passes she'll find she can see other emotions and later things like "lies" or "danger". In time, months to years, she can use the raw magic to create just about anything, like creating a magical ability like her sister's Gifts..
In time, she'll have to ability to
"I would move the mountains Make new trees and flowers grow"
Like she sang earlier.
extra:
Bruno… His sisters will not forget him. Julieta finds him unable to sleep, so she invites him to her room. Like she did years ago, when he was a lost and sleepless child in his room. She only stopped doing it when her Mother put her foot down. "He is too old to sleep with you. He WILL sleep in his room from now on!" That happened when she was 10.
Her words to her husband. "He needs a good night's sleep. He can sleep on the couch."
Pepa (+ Abuela, later), when she cannot find Bruno, will find him in Julieta's room. (Abuela sighs and closes the door)
Note: Alma's actions were some of the first cracks in the Casita…
