The Sound
of the
Gong
By King Malik
It took so many years to have it all come to this moment. The claim King Onyx had made came true. Thousands of years it took them this long to find it. White Diamond thought the object was buried so well, yet here he was now, Tyson Elio, a mere human turned into the New Orange Diamond by finding the diamond shard itself. Visions showed him where to dig up the ancient artifact. Now it is found, just on the outskirts of Beach City. Even though the only weapon Tyson could use was his pickaxe, it didn't take him long to dig it up, and as heavy as it was, two stories big, he had no trouble pulling it out of the hole. Tyson carefully set the gong down, reached to his back, and unsheathed his sledgehammer. He took aim towards the large piece of metal, and letting out a war cry, with all his might, banged the hammer in the center of the gong.
When the gong was made, Onyx made sure that whoever rings the gong, he will be the only one to hear the ring. Once it was sounded, the vibrations of the metal rang out all around the earth, then the solar system, then out to the universe, and reached Creation World. As soon as it reached his ears, Onyx jerked his head up and turned towards the source of the sound.
Tyson sheathed his hammer and took out a black colored gem and threw it on the ground. There was a moment of hesitation, then a black beam emanated from the gem, and a screen showed from the beam. The person on the screen had a black circular gem on her forehead, her hair was long and was spiky at the top. Her skin was gray, and wore a black cloak with the symbol of the blade of a spear on the front.
Without hesitation, the person on the screen spoke. It was in the old gem language, but Elio could easily make out what she said: "This is the Black Diamond communication channel, Black Pearl speaking." Pearl examined the person who was making the call, and noticed that she had not seen this man before. "Who am I speaking to? How have you made this call?"
Tyson responded in the same ancient language: "Oh great Black Pearl, my name is Tyson Elio. I have used one of your communication gems to contact you, so I can present some fascinating news."
"You look like nothing but a mere human, and for disrupting this channel, your corporal punishment shall be decided by the God of All Gems himself."
"I make this call in hopes to speak to your God. Look upon my gem," Tyson pointed to his back, "if you see this gem you may recognize the design." He turned around to show the gem encrusted in his back.
"That cut . . . that is the gem of Orange Diamond! How have you obtained this?"
Elio turned back around. "I found the gem while on a mining expedition, and by some unknown force, Your Majesty's diamond fused with me, and I became like one of you. I call to your master to share information you must receive."
"What do you possess that you demand to show to our King?"
"When Your Majesty's creation was encrusted on my back, I began to have visions of the God of All Gems, where you live, how to contact you, and your entire history in just a matter of seconds. My foresights have led me to this exact spot where I have uncovered, and sounded Your Majesty's gong, hidden away by Yellow Diamond."
Pearl's eyes went wide with surprise, and she noticed the massive object behind the man. " . . . You sounded the gong."
Tyson nodded. "I believe it is time for your master to finally return."
Pearl was speechless. She turned around and looked up. "My King, this is the man who has rung your gong, and he speaks the truth, the chime is standing right behind him. What shall I do?" There was a moment of hesitation, then Pearl said: "Yes . . . My Lord."
Black Pearl walked away from view. Tyson looked at the screen, but all he could see was darkness. The screen suddenly began to move, and Tyson's eyes went wide, and he fell on his knees as he gazed up at a giant. He couldn't see the giant clearly, but he could make out a black figure sitting on a throne, with long dark hair, a gray eye and the blade of a spear on his chest, and white immaculate eyes beaming down on him.
" . . . You have the gem of Orange Diamond, I hear," the figure spoke.
"Oh, All Mighty Black Diamond," Tyson said, " . . . I kneel before you in service and gratitude."
" . . . You have rung the gong and have summoned me."
"I have seen a vision of your arrival, Your Majesty, and welcome you to this world."
" . . . You avoid the questions I ask."
"A thousand apologies, Lord Onyx. I possess the gem of Orange Diamond whom you have made in your image, I have sounded the gong in which has summoned you, and I believe that it is now your time to return to the earth."
The figure examined the surroundings of the planet he was looking at. "That is earth which you live, strive, and survive on . . . it looks undoubtedly weak."
"To you, My Lord, nothing can match your strength. The visions I observe show that all of the gems that betrayed you - including the four diamonds that fought against you - have become soft from the actions that Steven Universe has committed."
" . . . Who is this 'Steven' you speak of?"
"He is half man half gem, Rose Quartz who was part of the Insurrection to overthrow you of your great tyranny. He is . . . Pink Diamond."
The massive figure's eyes seemed to grow slightly wide with surprise. It hesitated then said: "I have ruled over my creations for hundreds and thousands of years, gave them life, brought them to this world, carved their gems in my image, provided them with name, only to receive pain and betrayal instead of gratitude. Brown Diamond foresaw an age when all gems shall end, and only one gem will be left to live on to continue our history. I claimed that when someone - gem or no gem - sounds the gong, only I will hear it ring, and when it is chimed the Era of Gemcut shall commence. I will take up my weapon once more and pierce it through the hearts of those who betrayed me. I shall rain down on every species that stands against me, bathe in their blood as I listen to their screams, until all of the planets ever introduced to this galaxy shall be ruled, under, my, name."
Tyson smiled. "I shall ready for your arrival . . . My Diamond."
With that said, the screen faded and everything went silent.
"I do not trust that man," Black Pearl said, "I see weakness in him."
"The emotion of fear is written on his face," Black Diamond replied. "He will either harden with strength, or die in fear by my hand." He then stood up, walked over to a display case, broke the glass, and clutched the spear in his hands once again. "Summon the armies. Prepare my ship. The Age of Gemcut . . . has finally come."
