Perry had made the decision that he and Della would leave the office every day at five. He told his clients that unless it was an emergency, he was off the clock at five. Perry usually took care of dinner because Della wasn't much of a cook. That night, after dinner, they were snuggled up on the couch. Della gasped and put her hand on her stomach, "what's wrong?" Perry panicked. Della took his hand and placed it on her stomach where her hand had been. Perry gasped, "is that...?"

"The baby," she finished.

"That's amazing," he said. From that moment on, when Della sat by Perry, he'd have his hand on her stomach. Not usually in public. When they slept, he'd keep his hand there as well. Della didn't mind. It made her feel good.

That weekend, Perry and Paul helped pull a woman out of the water and onto Perry's boat. Her name was Sally Fenner. Perry was trying to protect her and had Della take her back to the apartment. The two women were playing cards when there was a knock at the door. Della, thinking it was Perry, opened the door. She cursed herself for not looking in the peephole when she saw Lieutenant Tragg. "Don't say anything without an attorney," Della told Sally.

"You should take that advice too, Mrs. Mason. You're coming with us as well," Tragg said.

"What for?" Della questioned in shock.

"Aiding and abetting a fugitive." Tragg led the two women out and to his car.

Sally noticed that Della had a hand on her belly the entire time. "Are you alright?" she asked Della before Tragg got in the car.

"Just nervous," Della answered.

Perry was furious when he walked into Burger's office, "what the hell do you mean by arresting my expectant wife?"

"She was aiding and abetting a fugitive. I had no choice. Just because she's expecting doesn't mean she can break the law."

"You should be arresting me," he said, "I had her take Miss Fenner to our apartment. I was worried for her safety."

"Then I will not press charges against Della, but Perry you'd better watch yourself."

"You don't believe me?"

"I don't know. Just take Della home."

Perry gave his wife a hand up, but she doubled over, "Della, darling," Perry had her sit back down, "what's wrong?"

Della winced and felt tears forming in her eyes, "the baby," she choked out, "it hurts so bad."

Burger picked up the phone, "I'll call the paramedics."

"How long have you been in pain?"

"I started feeling strange after Tragg took us out of the apartment," she took a deep breath, "I thought it was just nerves. Oh, Perry, I can't go through this. We've waited so long for a baby."

"Darling, the baby will be fine," Perry said gently.

"You don't know that," Della yelled before crying out in pain.

Tragg walked in, "what the hell is going on in here?"

Perry continued to focus on Della. Burger walked over to Tragg, "she might be losing the baby," he whispered.

"Della, just breathe, darling," Perry said.

"The baby hasn't moved in over an hour."

"Maybe the baby is sleeping?"

Della broke down even more, "I don't think so. Oh, I can't do this. I can't lose the baby."

Perry held his wife as best as he could in that chair. The paramedics arrived and the couple left. Tragg and Burger stood there in shock. Not knowing what to do next.

Perry was in the waiting room when the doctor walked out, "relax, they're both fine," he said.

"What happened?"

"The stress and fear of the situation got to her."

"It's my fault."

"You had no idea."

"I know," Perry sighed.

"Look, she's still a bit shaken. Go sit with her."

Perry thanked the doctor and went to his wife's room. He found her sitting up in bed. She looked at him and smiled, "the baby's moving."

Perry walked over and kissed his wife. He placed one hand on her belly and took her hand with the other, "I told you it was going to be alright."

"Well, with the amount of pain I was in, I didn't think the baby had a chance."

"Well, from now on, I'm not asking you to do anything like that."

Paul Drake rushed into the room, "are you alright?" he asked Della.

"I'm fine, now."

Paul sighed, "it's like having my own wife going through it again."

Perry and Della chuckled. A nurse walked in and checked the vitals of Della and the baby. "Everything still looks good, Mrs. Mason. There are two gentlemen outside who would like to see you. They seemed quite worried."

Paul gave Perry a confused look, "send them in," Perry said. The nurse left the room, "Tragg and Burger. Don't do anything to stress her out."

"I'd better leave," Paul said. "Feel better, beautiful." As he was leaving, he ran into Burger and Tragg. Paul gave them a look of disgust and left.

"How are you feeling, Della?" Burger asked softly.

"Better," she said. Della looked at Tragg, "here to arrest me again?"

The man looked guilty, "I suppose I deserved that."

"Do you have something to say, lieutenant?" Perry asked. "Something that isn't stressful."

Tragg sighed, "I was just doing my job. I honestly didn't think Burger would go through with it and knew Perry wouldn't let him. I'm sorry that my doing my job caused this. I'd never want that."

"I'm sorry too," Burger said, "we should have known better."

"You were just doing your jobs," Della said. "I can't believe you would think that I'd knowingly commit a crime while I'm five months pregnant with a baby I've tried to conceive for two years?"

"We didn't know that part," Tragg said.

"Yeah, we just thought the two of you were taking the time to settle into married life."

"I'll forgive you at some point. Right now, I'd like to go to sleep."

"Of course," Burger said. The two turned to leave, "we really are sorry, Perry."

"I know," the man said softly. The two left and Perry noticed his wife was asleep. It was the most horrifying day of his life. After her scare, Della stayed at the office, went to court, and only went with Perry elsewhere when they were sure trouble was far away. He'd never seen Della so distraught, so terrified. He never wanted to see her like that again.
