One December day, Della walked into her husband's office. "What should we do for Christmas this year?" Della asked. "After all, it's Maureen's first and our first with Nicky."

"Nothing big," Perry said, "she won't remember it or probably even stay awake the entire time. Let's get her some presents and watch some movies."

A few days later, Della walked into her husband's office, "everything is all set for Christmas."

"Great," he said as he pulled her to his lap.

"I'm getting too heavy for this."

"Never," he said.

Just then, Nicky walked in, "again," he sighed, "no wonder you two keep having babies."

"Very funny," Della said. "How was your last day before break?"

"It was great once it was over."

The couple chuckled. The phone rang and Della answered it, "Perry Mason's office. Yes, he is. May I ask who's calling?" After a moment, Della handed the phone to Perry, "it's your mother."

His face dropped, but he took the call, "mom?" he sat there and listened, "I'm sorry, but I already have plans...I know but I can't cancel...all I can do is ask...love you too."

"What was that all about?" Della asked.

"My mother begging me to come for Christmas."

"And?"

"She's going to try and talk everyone else into coming here."

"Perry, you need to tell her before she shows up and sees me, Nicky, and Maureen. I still don't know how she doesn't know. Maureen's dramatic birth was in the paper."

"My mother only reads the New York Times. It wasn't in there."

"Well, you need to get back to work." Della stood and went to finish organizing some files. An hour later, Perry went to pick up lunch. "Nicky, did you call pops about Christmas?"

"Yeah," the boy answered, "he said he'd be there around lunchtime."

"He doesn't want to stay the night?"

"He feels with this being your first Christmas as parents that you should have it with just us. He wasn't sad or anything."

Gertie walked in, "Della, there's a woman here to see Perry, but she doesn't have an appointment."

"Send her in and I'll see if I can help her."

Gertie walked out, "Mr. Mason's private secretary is in there. She said to go in and she'll try to help you."

The woman walked into the office and shut the door. Della was at the table with her back to the door. She turned when she heard the door shut, "hello," she said as she walked forward and extended her hand, "I'm Della Mason. What can I do for you?"

"Mason?" the older woman asked as her eyes drifted to the woman's stomach, "I thought you were the secretary?"

"I am, but I'm also Perry's wife."

"How long have you been married?"

"Three and a half years," she said. Just then, Maureen started to fuss, "excuse me." Della walked over to the playpen and lifted her daughter out, "sorry about that."

Nicky walked over after staying out of sight, "I can take her, mom."

"Thanks, sweetheart."

Perry walked in with lunch, "alright, darling, I have everything you've been craving and nothing that has been making you sick." He turned and was surprised by their visitor, "mom?" He noticed Della's face turn into one of shock.

His mother smiled, "hello, Perry."

"I just talked to you on the phone. You never said you were in town."

"You never said you were married with a baby, a teenager, and I'm guessing another baby on the way."

A man and woman walked into the office, "mom, how much longer do we have to wait in the car?" the man asked, "hey, Perry." Della took Maureen from her son. The boy could tell his mother wanted the baby close to her.

"Umm, Patrick, I think we've interrupted something," the woman said.

"You did," their mother said. She gestured at Della, "this is your sister-in-law. They've been married for three years, have one teenager, one baby, and another on the way."

Perry walked over to his wife with lunch, "here, I'll take Maureen. You need to eat."

"Perry," Della began.

"No, this is my problem. I'll take care of this. You and Nicky just eat." Perry helped Della sit as he held Maureen. He then turned toward everyone else. "You can't be surprised that I didn't tell you. We haven't spoken in five years. I met Della about four years ago. We got engaged six months later and married five months after that. Maureen is not even a year old. She will be next month. The baby is due two months after that. We adopted Nicky a month ago. There, you're all caught up."

"Um, Perry," Patrick said, "aren't you going to introduce us?"

"Oh, right, Della, Nicky," he said. Perry looked at his wife and son, "as you've probably guessed, this is my brother Patrick and this is my sister Penny. You've already met my mother, Paula."

"It's nice to meet you," Della smiled.

Perry looked at his mother, "is dad waiting in the wings too?"

"No, your father is probably still in the car."

"Perry," Della said, "why don't they join us for lunch."

"I don't mind that," Perry said, "but we don't really have enough food."

"Place another order," she said, "besides, I may want more anyway."

"Yes, ma'am," Perry said. He got everyone's order and made the call, "they said they'd bring it up since I had already been there."

"I'd better go get your father," Paula said and left.

"You two can have a seat," Perry told his siblings.

"Mama!" Maureen yelled, "num num."

Perry handed his daughter to his wife, "go on," Della said gently. The little girl took a small fry and ate it. "Hey, that was mine," Della pretended to be mad. Maureen shrugged and Della smiled while Nicky laughed. "Want me to put some on a plate for you?" The little girl nodded, "Perry, could you..." before she could finish, the high chair was next to her. Perry placed his daughter in. Della broke up some fries and put them on the tray.

Paula returned with her husband. Perry greeted him and introduced him to Della, Nicky, and Maureen. "I suppose you're mad too."

"Nope, I didn't have to go to anything or get dressed up in a monkey suit."

"Phillip," Paula scolded her husband. When the food arrived, Perry tipped the young man who brought it and passed out everyone's food. "What time are you all having dinner on Christmas?" Paula asked.

"Whenever we feel like it," Perry answered. "We're not going to a lot of trouble. Maureen won't remember it and I don't want Della doing too much. Nicky's grandfather will be joining us at some point."

"He said for lunch," the boy told his father.

"You're more than welcomed to join us," Della said with a smile.

"For dinner," Perry corrected. "Like I said, I don't want Della doing a whole lot and I want Nicky's grandfather to be able to spend some one-on-one time with him."

"What if they came over at around three?" Della asked. "Dinner doesn't have to be a big to-do."

Perry's mother decided to chime in, "we rented a house so it has a kitchen. We can start dinner there and bring it over."

Perry's father looked at him, "you did good, Perry. Got yourself a beautiful wife and luckily your baby takes after her."

"Thanks, dad," Perry smiled, "I hope the next one does too." The family could see how much in love the couple was even after knowing one another for four years.
