Later that day, Perry and Della were on their way to court. Paul rushed in before they arrived and went to the prosecution table, "warning," he whispered, "Della's pregnant, doesn't want more kids, Perry might, and they had a fight." He took his seat shortly after.

"Well, this is gonna be a fun day," Burger said to Tragg.

"I don't pity you one bit."

Perry fought harder than normal that day. He had Paul take Della back to the office. The two were unaware that Nicky was in the law library doing his homework. "I've never seen him like this," Della said when they walked into the office. "I didn't think this would be such a big deal."

"I don't know why he wants more than four," Paul said.

"Well, you can go back to work. I'll be fine."

"Let me know if you need a ride home," he joked before leaving.

Della went back to work. She was sorting papers when Perry walked in. He said nothing to her. "Perry, I think we should talk," Della said. He didn't respond, "so you're not talking to me anymore?"

"I thought by now you would have picked up on that."

"Why is this such a big deal to you?" he didn't answer. "Perry?"

"It doesn't matter," he said, "you've already made your decision."

"I'm sorry that I didn't talk to you first. Just tell me why you're so upset."

Perry sat back in his chair and looked at his wife, "look, I realize that your body is put through a lot. When you were telling me why you didn't want anymore, it upset me because you weren't even open to the idea of having more when the girls are a bit older."

"I'll be almost fifty by then. Look, what if we table this? We see how this pregnancy and delivery go. Then we have a conversation about whether or not we'll have more. Does that sound good?"

"Yes, thank you."

"Can I get a smile?" she asked which caused him to smile, "how about a kiss?"

Perry stood and walked over to kiss his wife, "I'm sorry I acted like such an idiot."

"It's okay," Della said, "if it really bothered me, I wouldn't have married you, to begin with." Perry kissed his wife.

"I don't see how you ever get any work done," a familiar voice said.

"What are you doing here, Patrick?" Perry asked.

"Is that any way to greet your favorite brother," Patrick walked over and gave Della a peck on the cheek. "How's my favorite sister?"

"Really?" Everyone looked and saw Penny.

"What? Like you don't like her better than me and Perry."

"True," Penny said and hugged Della.

"So, how are you?" Patrick repeated.

"Pregnant," Della said.

Penny and Patrick looked at Perry, "seriously, how do you get any work done?" Patrick asked.

Perry smiled and sat behind his desk. Della motioned for Penny and Patrick to sit in the other chairs. "So, what are you two doing here?" Perry asked.

"Warning you," Patrick said.

"About what?"

"Mom and dad are moving out here," Penny said.

"So?" Della asked. She noticed her husband was in a state of shock, "Perry? Perry!"

"We have got to move."

"Why?"

"Della, my mother doesn't know a thing about boundaries."

"I don't understand."

"You know," Perry said, "I bet this was her plan ever since that first Christmas with us. To fool you into believing she has boundaries to get you on her side for when she made her move."

"Perry, aren't you being a bit dramatic?"

Patrick looked at Della, "nope, that's pretty much it."

"She told you?" Della asked.

"She didn't have to," Penny said, "that's just her."

"Well, I have no intention of firing Jenny," Della said, "the girls and Nicky love her."

"I agree," Perry said. "We probably have enough time to figure this out."

"Not really," Patrick said.

"What do you mean?"

"Mom and dad are at their new place now," Penny confessed.

"What? Have you two ever heard of a phone?"

"You're never in the office," Penny pointed out.

"And when you are, apparently you're making babies," Patrick added.

Paula and Phillip walked in, "surprise," Paula said with a smile. Perry greeted his parents who then went to greet Della. "Where's Vivian?"

"She's at home with Jenny and Maureen today. We had court," Della explained.

"Well, the two of you don't have to pay Jenny anymore."

"Yes, we do," Perry said.

"No, you see..."

"We know, mom." Perry said, "Patrick and Penny told us."

"Well, it would be foolish to pay her once I take over."

"Mom, you're not taking over," Perry said. "Jenny will keep her job for as long as she wants."

Paula looked at her daughter-in-law, "Della, you try to reason with him."

"I'm sorry, Paula. I agree with Perry."

"You'd rather have a stranger raising your children?"

"Mom," Perry was getting angry. "You can't do this. You can't just suddenly move to Los Angeles and assume you will be watching the kids."

"Raising the kids," she corrected.

"Mom, Della and I are raising them."

"Look, I know you have to make a living. That's understandable, but a mother needs to be home with her children."

Perry saw the guilt on Della's face. A look he'd seen often since Maureen's birth. "Don't speak about my wife that way."

"Perry, I think I've been very patient," Paula said, "it's nothing against Della. It's her business if she wants to work."

"Thank you," Perry said.

"I'm not finished. It's her business if she wants to work. If that's her choice, then she can't be a proper mother and is not the right woman for you."

That's when Nicky burst out of the law library, "you can't talk about my mom like that."

"Nicky," Della and Perry were shocked to see their son.

"She the best mom I could ever ask for. I was really happy when they asked if they could adopt me because it meant I'd have a great mom like her. I know you don't like me and that's fine. You don't think I'm your grandson because I'm adopted. I don't care about that, but I do care about how you treat my mom."

Paula looked at Perry, "aren't you going to say something?"

"Get out," Perry said in a low, angry voice.

"Excuse me?"

"Della, unlike you, loves me for me. She doesn't try to turn me into something I'm not. She doesn't try to control my life and I don't tell her what to do. Della is the most amazing wife, mother, and secretary anyone could ask for. You will not speak about her or to her that way. Until you can understand that you don't run my family, you can't be a part of it."

Paula was in shock, but no one else was. "Perry Phillip Mason..."

"Enough, Paula," Phillip said, "let's go." She stomped out of the office. Phillip walked up to Della and place a hand on her shoulder, "don't let her get to you. You're doing great." He kissed her cheek and apologized to his son. "Nicky, you're my grandson. Don't ever forget that," he hugged the boy and left.

"Wow," Penny said.

"That was awesome," Patrick added.

"It felt pretty damn good," Perry said with a smile. He looked at his wife and saw she was crying. Nicky was rubbing her back, trying to comfort her. Perry knelt in front of her, "hey, you heard what my dad said. Don't let her get to you."

"It's not that," Della choked out. "I finally had a chance at having a mother again. I thought your mother liked me."

Patrick and Penny looked at Perry confused so he explained, "Della's parents dropped her off at her aunt's one day and never came back." He could tell that both of his siblings felt terrible for her. "I'm sorry, darling."

"It's not your fault." Della went to stand but became dizzy.

"Whoa," Perry said as he grabbed her, "take it easy." He helped her ease back down onto the chair.

"I just stood too quickly."

"You probably need to eat." Perry looked at his siblings. He took out a credit card, "could the two of you go pick up some food?"

"Sure, but it's our treat," Patrick said.

"What should we get?" Penny asked.

Perry looked at his wife, "has anything been making you feel sick?"

"You mean aside from your mother?"

The three Mason siblings and Nicky laughed, "see why we like her more?" Patrick asked.

"Nothing, so far," Della said.

Perry decided to order what Della usually gets and what Paul had ordered the day they found out she was pregnant with Vivian. "So, young man," Perry sat at his desk, "how long have you been in the law library?"

"I had a half-day at school, so pops brought me here. I was working on my homework."

"So what did you hear?" Della asked.

"Everything," he said, "I'm glad you two made up. I'm really glad I'm going to be a big brother again."

"Maybe you'll get a brother this time," Perry said.

"Nah, I like having sisters. A brother will be fine, but I'm pulling for a sister. Are you two mad at me for what I said?"

"No," Perry said, "you were standing up for your mom. I'm proud of you. You stood up for her without stooping to my mother's level."

Della hugged her son and gave him a kiss on the cheek. A week later, Burger's wife welcomed their second son, Dean. Tragg's wife gave birth to another son, Richard, just three days later. The families were all expanding rather quickly. "Perry, do you think we should invite your family for Christmas?" Della asked her husband one day.

"I don't see why not."

"Well, your mother, for one."

"My mother flew back to New York after our fight."

"But your father is still here."

"Yep, and he's perfectly fine with it."

"I guess we invite them then."

"So, we have Christmas. Then, one month later we have Maureen's birthday. Two months after that is Vivian's and you're due two months after that."

"At least we're consistent. I can't decide if I'm hoping to give birth before or after our anniversary."

"If you give birth before, then we can't have sex."

"Before it is," she smiled.

"Very funny," he said.

"I'm sure that at that point if I'm still pregnant, you'll send me into labor during sex."

"It would probably be nice to have the baby after," Perry said, "maybe easier for us to have a little celebration?"

"Speaking of celebration, don't get too carried away with Christmas. I mean, Maureen's birthday is the following month."

"I can't believe Maureen's turning two," Perry said. "Vivi's turning one. It's all going by way too fast."

"It goes by more slowly if you're pregnant."

Perry smiled, "I have no doubt. Well, at least we have a house now."

"Because you're going to get both of them an obscene amount of toys?"

"I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may incriminate me."

"You mean, it will incriminate you?"

"Yeah," Perry said making his wife chuckle. "You know, Nicky's gonna be sixteen this year."

"It really is going too fast," Della said.

Christmas went incredibly well. That night, Perry had one more gift for his wife. "What's this?" Della asked when he handed her a manilla envelope.

"Open it and find out," Perry smiled.

Della opened the envelope and took out the papers. She began to read over them and gasped, "you've found my parents?"

"Well, technically Paul did. I asked him to though."

"Why did you do this?"

"You've had a lot of questions that need answers. You don't have to meet them if you don't want to. They don't know about this."

"I guess I'll have some thinking to do." Della kissed her husband, "thank you," she said, "that was very sweet of you."
