Della was now in her second trimester. She had made the decision to write her parents a letter expressing her feelings about being abandoned by them. She enclosed a family photo with the letter. Two weeks later, Della was in Perry's office bathroom, changing Vivi. "Perry," Gertie said as she walked in, "there's a couple here to see you. They don't have an appointment, but I think you should see them."

"Why?"

This time Gertie whispered, "they said they're Della's parents."

Perry's eyes went wide. "Show them to Della's office and I'll talk to them there." He walked into his wife's office and shut his office door behind him. Gertie took the couple to Perry and returned to her desk. "How can I help you?"

"You're Della's husband?" the woman asked.

"Yes, sorry," he extended his hand, "I'm Perry Mason."

"I'm Daisy Street and this is my husband, Dan Street."

"It's nice to finally meet you," Perry said. He could tell the couple was nervous.

Della opened the door behind the lawyer, "Perry, what are you doing?"

He turned and looked at his wife, "I'll be right there. Just give me a moment." Perry looked at the couple after shutting the door. "Wait here," he said, "I'll tell her first. Please, don't go anywhere."

Perry walked back into the office and shut the door. "What were you doing out there?" Della asked.

Perry sat in his chair and waved his wife over. He pulled her onto his lap, "Della, I think your parents got your letter."

"What makes you say that?"

"They're right outside that door." He watched as his wife's face turned into one of shock, "that's who I was talking to. I didn't want to bring them in until I talked to them. Should I go get them?" His wife just nodded. Perry had his wife stand and went to the door. He held his breath and was relieved when the Streets' were still there. Della had walked over to the playpen. "Della," Perry turned and found she had moved. Della walked over with Vivian in her arms. Perry put his arm around her.

"Why don't we sit down so your father and I can explain everything?" Daisy suggested.

Della sat on the couch with Vivian while Perry pulled two chairs over from the table before joining his wife. "It's my fault," Dan blurted out. "We hadn't intended to leave you. See, we'd fallen on hard times, and your aunt offered to watch you while we went looking for better work. I didn't want to go back for you until I felt I had enough to properly support you."

"We don't have much as far as education and skills. That limited the job prospects," Daisy added. "We felt terrible for not going back for you. Your aunt was told to take care of you until we called to come get you. We told her to tell you anything she felt was right when it came to why we left."

"She told me you dropped me off and never came back," Della said softly.

"We have no right to ask to be a part of your life and your family," Daisy said.

"But we'd like to be. It's up to you. Just write to us and let us know," Dan added, "we don't have a phone."

Della looked at Perry, "what are you thinking?" he asked. "Whatever it is, it's fine with me."

"Why don't you stay with us for a little while? We can get to know each other and you can get to know your grandchildren," Della suggested.

The couple smiled, "we'd like that," Daisy said, "is that Vivian?"

Della smiled, "yes," she was about to stand when Perry stopped her.

"I can do it," he said gently. Della smiled as he took Vivian over to her grandmother.

"She so beautiful," Daisy said.

"She looks just like you," Dan added, "when you were that age."

"You said you're expecting in May?" Daisy asked.

"Yes," Della confirmed. "This month is Maureen's second birthday. March is Vivian's first birthday. Then, baby number three arrives in May."

"We like to be consistent," Perry smiled.

"Nicky turns sixteen in October," Della added, "we were less consistent with him."

Dan looked at Perry, "I just wanna say thank you. I'm glad that Della found a man like you. I can tell you take great care of her and the kids. I can also tell how much in love the two of you are. You've been there for her more than I have and I thank you for that."

Della smiled and leaned into Perry, "you don't have to thank me. Della made my life everything it is. Without her, I have nothing. We saved each other. Although, I will say, Della doesn't need anyone to take care of her." Everyone smiled and enjoyed one another's company. Perry and Della left early to take her parents back to the house. Maureen and Nicky were excited to have more grandparents. Maureen didn't remember Paula, and the Mason children hadn't seen the woman in over a year. This made them excited to have Daisy. The woman was a stark contrast to Paula. She instantly embraced Nicky as her own.
