It was the day the Mason family had been looking forward to. Nicky was graduating from law school. He had been inspired by his father and wanted to help people like Perry. He had certainly come a long way from the fourteen-year-old boy who walked into Perry's office one day asking for him to help his grandfather. Nicky was also going to join Perry at his practice. He did tell his son to get his own Della. Which he did. Nancy had decided to leave her job as a nurse and become her husband's right-hand gal. She had a very good reason for that too. Nancy walked into her husband's new office. "Hey, how come you're late? It doesn't look good to the boss to be late on the first day," Nicky teased.
"You asked me why I decided to leave my job as a nurse."
"You told me it was becoming too emotionally difficult."
"It was, but there's more. I seem to recall your mother being late to work on her first day as your father's secretary."
"Yeah, she had a doctor's appointment and found out she was...," Nicky stared at his wife, "are you pregnant?"
Nancy smiled, "yes."
Nicky ran to his wife, took her in his arms, and swung her around. "Are you okay? Is the baby okay?"
"We're both great."
"I can't wait to tell my parents."
"Why don't we tell them on their anniversary? It's this weekend."
"That's a great idea."
"But they're leaving Friday for the cabin."
"Why don't you go get an anniversary card for grandma and grandpa?"
Nancy smiled, "I'll be back shortly."
About twenty minutes later, the couple walked into Perry's office, "mom, dad, do you have a minute?" Nicky asked.
"Sure," Perry said.
"We know that you're leaving early to celebrate your anniversary so we wanted to give you your present now," Nicky said as Nancy handed them a card.
Perry took the card and opened it, "happy anniversary, grandma and grandpa."
Della looked at her the couple in shock. Perry, opened the card and a sonogram picture fell out. Della and Perry rushed to hug the couple and congratulate them. Both were a bit misty-eyed. They were going to be grandparents for the first time and couldn't wait. Before leaving, Nicky looked at his father, "you were right," he said. "The table in the law library is incredibly sturdy." Both Della and Nancy smacked their husbands and rolled their eyes. Yep, Nicky had found his Della.
