Mr. and Mrs. Jones

TW: Violence, death and kidnapping

March 1989

"Mr. Harrison, is there any way I could leave a little early?"

David looked up at his assistant and sighed. "Why do you need to leave early, Denise?"

Denise let out a soft breath. "I think I'm in labor."

"Think or know?" David questioned and the young woman looked at him, running her hand over her stomach.

"I'm certain and I need to go…"

David looked at his watch and groaned. "Can't you wait?"

Denise took another deep breath, shaking her head. "No." She replied, grabbing her bag and heading towards the elevators. "We talked about this and I told you that I would continue to help until I couldn't… and now I can't!"

David watched her walk out before shaking his head. "Monica, can you come in here please?"

Monica walked into the office and leaned against the door. "Why did I see Denise waddling out of here?"

"She thinks she's in labor… didn't we let her off like a few months ago?" David asked.

Monica shrugged. "Something about a dead husband, what did you want?"

"How's the plan going? When will the money be available?"

"It's being challenged but shouldn't take long. As soon as that hurdle is out of the way, we'll have everything,"

David smirked, looking at the camera. "Then we should go ahead and get the ball moving."

Monica smiled. "I'll meet you there, make sure the car is ready." She said before walking out.

Denise let out another ragged breath. "Okay sweet girl, I just need you to hold on a little longer." She said, rubbing her stomach. She was trying her best to remain calm but her nerves were getting the best of her.

"I really wish your dad was here with me… he knew I hated driving at night."

Denise lost her husband tragically while he was doing offshore work and she had to try to come to terms with losing everything and the one person that loved her most. The only upside was that he left everything for her and their unborn child, he was an only child that lost his parents when he was young and they'd been pretty wealthy.

She never knew anything about the money until an executor showed up after the funeral. She was in utter shock about how much he'd left for them and he even set aside money that would provide for their daughter's future.

"Sweet, sweet Mercy. I can't wait to meet you and see how much like your father you look." Denise said, before slamming on breaks when she saw a tree blocking her way. She barely missed colliding with the large tree, she let out a relieved sigh before placing her car in reverse to find another way to the hospital but before she could even move her car was hit by another and hers was thrusted forward right into the tree.

Denise gasped when she felt the impact and started to grab for her phone when she noticed the headlights of the other car starting to go away before coming back and she felt another hard thrust.

She pressed on her horn, signaling to let whoever it was that someone was in the car but she was only met by them revving their engine and her car being pushed into the tree even more. She looked back again, seeing the lights starting to fade before they were bright again there was a loud boom.

Blackness.

Sam sat in the dark watching Mercedes sleep and brewing, he was angry at everyone in her life that hurt but her brother made him want to kill. He admittedly cried while he showered because he couldn't understand how she was still going, after all of that trauma she still managed to have a sliver of hope inside of her. It wasn't apparent, her hope but he could see it in her eyes. She wanted things to be different, she wanted to understand why all of this happened to her but she was also afraid.

He felt that fear. It practically radiated off of her since she received that letter and now Sam knew he had to do everything he could to make him stop. There was only one problem.

She was the only one that knew what he looked liked and Anthony hadn't found any strange people outside of her friend.

Sam got up from his chair, glancing at Mercedes one last time before heading downstairs. He walked into his office and let out a long sigh, his head hurt and he couldn't shake the feeling that her telling him what she did was only the tip of a very large iceberg.

"Is she asleep?"

Sam looked up and saw his brother and Anthony standing there. "Yes. Did you do what I asked?" He answered.

Anthony shot Stevie a look before nodding. "In there." Anthony said.

"Bro, you can't really think this is okay… maybe we-" He started but stopped when Sam looked at him. He'd never seen his brother this broken or angry but he knew trying to convince him not to do what he was about to do was a moot point.

Sam walked into the adjoining room and sat down in the chair. "I won't beat around the bush and I highly suggest you don't either. Why are you here?" He asked a very terrified Quinn.

"Wh-who are you? Why did you… what do you want?" She asked.

He shot her a bored look. "Why are you here?" He asked again.

"I… I just stumbled upon this place and I am just vacationing here… I don't know what you want me to say!" Quinn responded, feeling herself shaking. She was literally dragged from her car and brought here, where she waited for an hour before whoever this was came into this room.

"How did you know Mercedes was here?"

Quinn looked at him shocked. "How… How do you know her? Is that why I'm here?"

Sam clenched his fist before slowly releasing them. "Why are you here?" He asked this time his tone let her know she better answer.

"I TOLD YOU! NOW LET ME GO!" Quinn shouted and he stood, walking over to her and leaning in close.

"I know you're here with him so when I let you go, you will deliver this message. If he comes within an inch of her, he will know the type of pain he's caused." Sam said, noticing the look of sheer fear in her eyes.

"I… I'm not here with anyone. Please let me go! I won't come around Mercedes again!" Quinn pleaded.

Sam smirked. "He's trained you good, get the fuck out of my house and give him my message." He said before standing and walking out the room.

Stevie looked at his brother. "Did she tell you anything?"

"She told me everything by not saying anything. Follow her back and if you see the bastard bring him to me."

March 1989

"It's unfortunate… she was perfectly healthy." A nurse said, shaking her head.

"Has her family been notified?" Another nurse asked.

"Says here her husband died, she has an emergency contact listed…"

"OH GOD! WHERE IS SHE? WHERE IS MY SISTER?"

"Ma'am, who are you looking for?" The nurse asked the screaming woman.

"Denise Jones, she's my sister and she called me before the wreck! Is she okay? Is the baby okay?"

The nurses shared a look. "We weren't aware that she had any family."

"We were mending our relationship… Please, is she okay?"

"What's your name?" The nurse asked, looking at Denise's information.

"Monica, Monica Jones."

The nurse looked at her then the information before nodding. "We're sorry to tell you this but she didn't make it… the impact from the wreck caused her to seize and go into cardiac arrest. It was between saving her or the baby and she signed the waiver to save her daughter…"

"My sister… she's gone?" Monica asked, tears streaming down her face.

"She is but her daughter is healthy and very beautiful."

Monica shook her head. "The baby survived?"

"Yes, would you like to see her?" The nurse asked, gently grabbing her elbow and leading her to the nursery before Monica pulled away.

"I… I'm not ready to see her yet. I need a moment." She said and the nurses nodded before going into the nursery letting her know whenever she was ready, she could come inside.

She's alive.

Dammit.

Stevie watched as Anthony led Quinn out of the house before going back into his brother's office and closing the door behind him.

"That was stupid! You have no idea how stupid that was of you to do!" He said, pacing and shaking his head.

Sam sat back in his chair, sighing. "She knew Mercedes was here before she got here. She is helping her brother."

Stevie scuffed. "Based off of what? Your gut? Did she tell you this?"

"No, she didn't say anything but who the hell vacations in Stowe after the festivals? We have nothing going on right now and you know that I'm right." Sam replied, trying to figure out how the hell her brother would've found her.

"So kidnapping her was the only way to get in contact with her? You didn't think of stopping whenever she came out to explore?"

Stevie had a point but he didn't know what Sam did. "You have no idea what she's facing and I have a feeling we need to find her parents… I don't know where she's from but I think I should take a trip."

Stevie slammed his hand on the desk. "So you're gonna leave her alone? So you can go play inspector gadget? Dude! If you can't do it from here then there's no point in leaving."

Sam looked at his brother before shaking his head. "It's the only way to help her completely, she will be safe because you will make sure she's safe."

Stevie looked at him confused. "You trust me?" He asked.

"No but she does… she's easy around you so I know you won't let anything happen to her." Sam replied, getting up from his seat and walking into the other room with Stevie close behind. "You have to keep what I'm about to tell you between us."

"Okay…"

Sam let out a shaky breath. "Remember when dad died and I had to take over the businesses?" Stevie nodded, wondering where he was going with this.

"Well… I've been looking over some of those files and there's three companies that just don't add up and if the information Anthony gave me about Mercedes then our family ties are deep…"

Stevie looked at him confused. "I don't know what you're trying to hint at."

"I might be able to find her parents and end all of this." Sam revealed and Stevie nodded.

"Oh… oh shit." He said after realizing what his brother was saying. "But that doesn't solve the issue with her brother."

"I know but he has to be driven by something more than money, hell I could probably offer him millions and would likely turn it down… I think Mercedes has something that they don't want getting out." Sam replied, pacing. "But what I don't understand is why. Why put a child through that when you could easily just put her up for adoption? No, it's something deeper than money."

March 1989

"You just need to sign here and here, then you're able to take this sweet girl home." A social worker said.

"Regarding her mother… you said there was trust set aside?" Monica asked and the woman nodded.

"Yes, since both of her parents passed she will have access at five to help with her everyday needs. When she hits sixteen, she'll have access to her secondary trust that her father set aside and then there's something about a third party trust that she will have access to when she turns twenty one but she will have to sign off on anything after she's eighteen."

David looked at Monica before nodding. "That sounds good, we're so heartbroken about Denise passing but we promise to take the best care of this little angel."

The social worker smiled. "Well I see she's in perfect hands." She said before gently caressing the baby girl. "Have the best life Mercedes."

"Is this my new sister?"

Monica looked at her son, shaking her head. "She's not really your sister but she will be living with us."

"Will she stay forever?" Nathan asked, looking at the baby, gently touching her forehead.

"Why don't we go get ready for dinner while your mother gets the baby settled?" David asked, frowning at his wife. "You can hire a nanny for her, for now."

Monica nodded. "I'll see if Elise will keep her."

"No!" Nathan shouted. "I want her to stay! She's my sister!"

David grabbed the young boy roughly. "She is not your sister, she will never be a Harrison!"

Monica cleared her throat. "You mean Jones." She corrected.

"Right, she will never be a Jones. Remember we told you that we'd get new last names and now we have them. Your name is Nathan Jones."

"But… I thought I was Harrison." Nathan muttered.

Monica sighed, kneeling down to be at eye level with her son. "You are, in secret but outside you are Nathan Jones, okay sweetheart?"

The young boy nodded, smiling at his mother. "Okay mommy… My name is Nathan Jones."

David smiled, patting him on the head. "That's my smart boy. See that she's taken care of, we're going to get the table set for dinner. I have clients coming over." He instructed Momica before grabbing Nathan's hand and walking to the dining room.

Monica looked down at the baby sleeping peacefully, she couldn't deny that even as a newborn she was beautiful. "Good thing you got Denise's looks." She muttered carrying the infant up the stairs to the spare bedroom. There wasn't any furniture for a baby but she figured the cot that was already in there would suffice until otherwise.

She was admittedly an easy child to take care of and it wasn't like she cried much but David hated having her there, he hated having to take her places with them and he hated that they had to wait as long as they did to start receiving a part of her trust.

April 1994

"She doesn't look remotely like Nathan or Carla, I can not run with her involved in this family." David said, shaking his head.

Monica threw her hands up. "Well what the hell do you expect me to do? The plan failed because of you! We can't put her up for adoption, we just received the first payment and would have to put it back into her trust and I don't know about you but you need that 2.5 million to fund your campaign!"

"Well some of my constituents are noticing the differences and are wondering if you stepped out." David replied. "I have to have the perfect family unit so she has to go!"

"Fine! I will see what I can do… just give me a week."

"How long will you be gone?" Stevie asked, watching his brother pace before he suddenly stopped, tilting his head.

"I… I don't think long." He replied, walking over to the chair Quinn had been sitting in, seeing a piece of paper. He grabbed it and unfolded it, reading the contents.

She is not safe.

Sam read the note a few more times before balling up the paper and deciding that if he left, it out only put her in danger even more. "She's gonna have to come with me…"

Stevie looked at his brother shocked. "What makes you think she will come willinging? You said they were horrible to her so why on Earth would she go back there and who's to say that's not what they want? No, there's too much at stake for you to do that, you need a better plan."

"It's the only plan I got that will keep her safe. If she is with me them-"

"Then what?" They heard, both looking and seeing Mercedes standing there. "Sam, I can't go back to Lima and I can not let you do whatever it is you're thinking about… I didn't tell you everything that happened because… enough people have died because of me."

"You didn't kill your sister, Mercedes, you're innocent." Sam replied.

"No but she is dead because of me and so is Jane." She said, looking away. "Jane helped me after he came looking for me again… it was after Unique basically nursed me back to health. I was staying there and was safe… or at least I thought I was."

"Maybe I should leave the two of you alone." Stevie said starting to walk out but Mercedes grabbed him forcing him to stop.

"You are a lot like her… so eager to help but not knowing that you would just be someone he took down to get to me. My bro- Nathan is very driven and very evil. He knows I'm here with you, I can't explain how I know but I do and if you want to protect anyone it should be your siblings."

"I'm not afraid of-"

"You don't even know what you're going up against, the boogeyman is a plaything compared to him. Jane was the same way, proud and fearless but she was killed because she got in the way. She must've started trailing him after their encounter, I can't be too sure but she was found horribly beaten and her death was not fast. He took his time because he wanted me to know that he could and would do the same to me." Mercedes said, looking directly at Sam.

"I have protection set up for them, they're safe." He said but the look in her eyes told him that was never going to be enough.

"If you leave, you will leave them unprotected. He will do whatever it takes to get to me… I'm not stupid. Quinn showing up here isn't a fluke and you can fight this for me. I have to face him on my own… it's high time."

Whew... y'all just don't know what's headed your way! I will say this... YOU WILL GET SOME SAMCEDES FLUFF... soon!
