Chapter one:
It's been two months since Gasters soul became a part of a dog monsters soul.
Sans, the eldest brother, is walking along through the woods of Snowdin. He has decided to go for this walk as the weather is nice. He's wearing a black t-shirt with jeans and black boots. He's glad that he's a skeleton meaning that he isn't as bothered by not having a jacket. He pauses hearing growling and looks around himself with his dark yellow eye lights. His eye lights are a little big and round like a ring around a black centre. He tries to figure out where it's coming from. He's never heard anyone growl like that before.
Everyone is so nice that usually no one has a reason to sound so angry.
Words can be heard as though there is an argument. Before another growl can be heard.
"Hello?" Sans calls out with hesitance in his voice. He spins around as footsteps crunch in the snow. He spots the dog monster who has half of Gasters soul.
The dog monster has well groomed medium length white fur, black eyes, and is wearing a long sleeved dark grey shirt with slightly lighter grey shorts. His front and back paws don't have shoes or socks, as the fur helps keep him warm. He is larger than Sans himself as he glared with his teeth bared. Inside his eyes what looks like an internal struggle for control can be seen; by the flashing of the emotions and looks. One moment the monsters eyes are fearful then another moment loving then angry. Until something seems to shut off inside of the monster and his eyes turn feral looking.
Sans is smart enough to realize that the two must have fought for control. He isn't sure what triggered it, though perhaps the argument was the trigger. He theorized that Gaster and the dog monster, Dogermy, must have disagreed about something then both wanted control. He takes a step back seeing that there is no longer any signs of either of the two.
Dogermy must have accidentally caused himself to turn to feral instincts.
Sans had heard about it happening in the war but it hasn't been recorded after said war. He wonders if he can bring at least one back into control. A part of his mind screaming at him for him to run.
Suddenly Dogermy dashes towards Sans with a fierce growl.
Sans turns with his instincts kicking in. He runs trying to get away from the other. His mind a blur with adrenaline as he momentarily forgets about his magic. He can hear the other quickly gaining on him. His mind soon remembers his magic. He turns to try to use an attack only to see the other right behind him. He is only able to let out part of a horrified scream before he's cut off.
Dogermy is quick to lean down snapping his teeth into the right side of his face and skull. He throws his head up picking Sans up in the process. He turns his head flinging the skeleton around like some rag doll. He then tosses him away.
Sans hits the ground hard rolling a little before coming to a stop. The injured side of his face facing the snow. His mind blank and whirling from the pain as the snow turns red. He can't bring himself to let out a sound as Dorgermy leaps onto him.
The dog monsters claws manage to scratch the top of his nose hole, and the bottom right of his nose hole. He snaps his teeth around his victims left leg. His bite harsh enough to pierce the bone cracking it, along with leaving holes to show where his teeth had sunk in, as he claws harshly at the others ribs to try to roll him in the snow.
Sanss vision begins to go dark as a heavy weight is placed on his right leg; where one paw rests to support some of the larger monsters weight. The last thing he sees before he blacks out is Dogermy being tackled by someone.
...
Papyrus paces in the hospital room unable to sit from the anxiety. He heard about the attack on Sans from Undyne who he was with when she got the call. He was doing paperwork that is reports from the sentry duty. He thanks the stars that Dogamy and Dogeressa had been in the area close enough to hear the attack. He is wearing his usual slightly dark blue t-shirt with slightly small black stripes, purple scarf Sans made around his neck, black mid thigh length shorts, slightly dark blue elbow length gloves, and matching knee length slightly dark blue boots with black bottoms. He glances to his brothers form on the bed.
Sans is laying on his back. His right side of his skull is wrapped in bandages, he has a gauze like bandage covering his nose, and below the hospital gown and blanket there's more bandages. They are where the worst of his wounds are, the worst ones weren't able to be healed by healing magic. He had to be bandaged there as there was no choice if the wounds were to try to heal at all. He has an Iv that has liquid magic attached to his left wrist, and an oxygen tub placed in his mouth to make sure he gets air. He's been out cold for the past two days, three if the day of the attack counts as well.
Papyrus has barely slept at all. He only gets sleep when he passes out from exhaustion. He turns as a calico cat doctor in a white doctors coat, and scrubs underneath, enters the room.
"I'm here to check on his vitals." The doctor informs him. His smile sympathetic to the younger yet taller skeleton.
Papyrus nods and hovers as the doctor checks on Sanss state. He distracts himself thinking about how Dogermy had to be killed in order to stop him from attacking further. He almost swears that the other had gotten the easy way out. He won't be able to see the dog monster be brought to justice in court. He waits until the other is done before he brings up his question. "Tell me doctor please. Sans will make it. Right?"
The doctor turns his eyes and smile remaining sympathetic as he gazes at Papyrus. "His HP is luckily remaining stable after we managed to recover the HP he lost." He doesn't need to remind the other of how lucky Sans was with his 0.01 out of 1 HP that showed the damage. "The biggest thing right now is for him to wake up. He'll have a better chance if he does. If he doesn't and remains in a coma like state then... I'm sorry but if that happens he'll probably never wake up."
Papyrus shifts where he stands quietly thanking the doctor.
The doctor places a comforting hand on Papyruss shoulder before leaving the room.
Papyrus places his hands on the edge of his bed. So he's hovering over his brother. "Please brother. Come back to me." He pleads with worried tears coming to his eyes. "Don't leave me alone! Youre all that I have left! Mom died in the war and dad is now gone too. I can't lose you!"
After a moment Sans slightly stirs only to slightly open his eye that isn't bandaged. His eye only opens halfway and his eye light shifts to look slightly up at Papyrus. He notices the other stating at him with tear filled eyes. He can see a ceiling past the other meaning he was inside. His mind is too hazy to think about what place he's inside of.
Papyrus lets out a sigh of relief at seeing his brothers eye open. He almost can't believe that it's happening, trying to keep out the thoughts that this an illusion. He knows that it can't be and that his brother really is awake. He leans down gently putting their foreheads together, on the part that's not injured, as he sobs. "Sans!" He says happily before falling into more sobs.
Sans stares at his brother for a few moments before his eye closes with tears of his own. Though only his eye that isn't bandaged tears up. He doesn't even notice as he is at least happy to see Papyrus.
Papyrus has fallen to his knees and remains close to his brother. He is extremely happy to see his brother awake. He feels like relief has washed over his soul. "You're going to be okay." He tells him softly. "It's okay. I'm here for you. You're safe now. Dogermy is gone."
Sans flinches a little at the mention of the monster who hurt him. He tries to speak but at first he only manages a squeak. He tries again as Papyrus opens his eyes. "H-He went feral..." He shakily explains to his brother. He shivers at the memory. "A f-fight for c-control."
Papyrus listens to what his brother has to say. He does notice the shaking and he gently caresses the uninjured cheek. "It's okay. That's over now." He wishes he could pull Sans onto his lap to hug him even more comfortingly. He stays with his brother who can only cuddle so close.
Sanss body seems to be feeling heavy so it's understandable.
Plus Papyrus doesn't want to hurt him any further. He knows that recovery won't be easy but he'll be there.
Sans tries to fight sleep feeling fearful of seeing the attack happen all over again. He tries to keep his eye open so he can focus on his brother instead.
"It's okay. Rest." Papyrus gently shushes him giving his uninjured part of forehead a nuzzle.
Sans can't fight it anymore and falls asleep.
The doctor watches them knowing the truth about how severe Sanss injuries are. He wonders if with Papyruss support he'll have a better chance of making it through.
In the middle of sleep Sans shifts with whimpers, causing Papyrus to turn away from a puzzle book.
Papyrus puts his book down and reaches over. He places a hand on Sanss forehead seeing the other in a nightmare. "Shh. It's okay brother. You're safe." He shines his soul letting his brother be able to sense that he's there.
Sanss eye snap open with a scream. He quiets down into heavy panting. He looks around seeing the hospital room before looking to Papyrus. He feels better with his brother there and clings to him. Sobbing to his brother who holds him close.
