Chapter three:

Sans working on his standing and walking went on for another week.

Every day Sans seemed to be getting stronger, and is able to get closer to being able to put his weight onto one leg.

By the end of the week...

Sans stands glad that at least him standing is more stable. He takes a step with his injured leg, then another with his non injured one. He manages to put the foot on the ground without falling. He takes another step once more with his injured leg, then tries to take a step with his other leg. He stumbles forward though Papyrus as always catches him.

Papyrus stabilizes Sans "Keep going brother! You've got this!" He slowly lets go of his brother who manages to stay standing.

Sans starts taking some more steps. He manages to take four before stumbling once more.

"You're doing it!" Papyrus happily holds his brother close after having caught him. He lets the other snuggle against him.

Over two weeks Sans's walking has improved enough that he can walk around the room, soon he'll be able to walk further distances with how well he's recovering. He still sleeps with his brother as sometimes especially bad nightmares still do happen.

A knock comes to the door causing the brothers to turn.

The two see a doctor standing there who smiles in greeting.

"You have company." The doctor moves and lets in Dogamy, Dogeressa, Greater dog, and Lesser dog.

Dogamy and Dogeressa are both wearing a black pull over hoodie with the hoodie up, black pants, and black boots.

Greater dog has on his usual black armor suit though his spear is not seen.

Lesser dog is also wearing his black armor with his sword and shield currently not with him.

The four dogs each have a little something for them.

"We know that nothing can really repair the damage that was caused." Dogeressa tells them as Sans stares wide eyed. "But we thought we'd come by now that you can have nonfamily visitors. And give you some gifts to say sorry for what happened."

One by one they hand Papyrus the gifts. They have brought them a book about science Sans had been wanting before the attack, a book of puzzles that the two can do together, some homemade cookies, and also a plush bone that can be cuddled with.

"Thank you. Though you didn't have to go through so much trouble." Papyrus smiles at them. "We don't blame you for the attack."

"It didn't feel right to leave things the way they were. Whether or not it was our fault." Dogamy replies glancing away. "It was a dog monster who did this. As pack monsters we feel some responsibility."

As Papyrus talks to the others Greater dog heads over to Sans who turns to him. The dog notices terror in his eyes and whines softly causing the others to turn. He nudges Sans who jolts away with a cry.

Papyrus is quick to pull his brother close. "It's okay Sans. It's just Greater dog." He smiles assuringly at the apologetic looking canine. "It's not your fault. He still has nightmares." He reaches one hand out, Sans burying his face into Papyruss chest, and pets Greater dog comfortingly. "You didn't do anything wrong."

At this Greater dog is relieved though still is worried about Sans.

"We won't stay long." Dogamy turns towards the door. His gaze sympathetic and understanding. "We don't want to stress Sans out too much. If you need anything let us know and we'll get it for you."

"Thank you. We'll see you around." Papyrus nods then lets them all head off. He turns his attention to calming the now sobbing Sans down.

...

Papyrus fiddles with his hands as he remains standing back. He knows that he has to stay back while two doctors take off the bandages. He is glad that over the two months Sans has healed pretty well. He hopes that the scars won't be too bad. He watches and moves two steps closer when the two step back.

"Your body has recovered to the best that it can." The doctor who has been with them since the start says. "The scars will be there."

Sans nods softly in understanding. Remaining silent.

The other doctor grabs a handheld mirror giving it to Sans.

Sans looks down looking at his body through his only working eye. His left leg still has obvious sunken in parts where the teeth had sunken in. His ribs have a sunken in slash mark that he was lucky in that it didn't cut his ribs apart. He takes a deep breath before raising the mirror to finally look at his face. His heart shaped nose has two slash marks on the top, and one with a jagged top cutting part of the bottom corner on the left side of his nose, that are black as the bone didn't grow back enough thus leaving them as holes. His right eye is completely black not to mention the obvious scars. His right eye has what look like slash marks that some reach to the top of his head, one that is the second last on the right goes up a little onto the top of his skull, the one previously mentioned also goes down to be beside where his smile would end if he was smiling, and even a slightly shorter one. His scars show that the bone didn't grow back, and three of four are slashed through the eye. Except of the slightly shorter last one on the right that's beside his eye with a slight gap of bone. His scars on his eye area appear a little straight but also a little jagged. He can't even blink that eye anymore as it doesn't respond to anything. He can't believe that this is how he'll look forever. His hand shakes only for the mirror to fall to the bed as it slips from his grasp.

Papyrus places a hand on Sanss left shoulder in which he turns to his taller brother. He smiles to him wanting to show that it's not as bad as he thinks. "I think you look cool brother."

Sans turns to look to the mirror sitting on the bed. "All the others will see are my scars."

Papyrus moves his hand so his arm is around his brothers shoulders. He supposes that it's only natural that his brother is self conscious about his scars. "That's not true Sans. They'll still see you as who you are. An intelligent and kind monster. Not to mention strong." He keeps his brother held close as the other closes his eye. "You're still the same Sans that we know and love." He doesn't move away from the cuddling wanting to give Sans sometime to be comforted in his arms.

It was only two days later when Sans is allowed to go home.

Papyrus and Sans are walking along heading to get home.

Papyrus glances to Sans to make sure that he's okay as they make it to Riverpersons boat dock. He hopes that the return home will be alright. He doesn't want something to freak his brother out. He turns to Riverperson who is waiting for them.

Riverperson has a black cloak on with a dark blue rope tied around her neck. She has the rope even go on the cloak where it's at her neck. She has it in a simple knot in the front with straight cut edges hanging down a little. She is standing on a long wood cat shaped boat that is floating just a little off the water. "Hello." She says hearing them approach though she doesn't look at them fully. "What a wonderful day. Is there a chance you're here to take a ride with me on my boat?"

"Yes." Papyrus confirms and makes sure that Sans gets on board. He follows after him and the two settle down behind Riverperson. "Can you take us to Snowdin?"

"Why of course I can." Riverperson confirms. "Up up and away we go."

The cat boat begins to move and heads off moving like it's being dragged. It remains floating in the air during this time.

Sans takes a deep breath as they get closer and closer to their destination. He really hopes that things will go well once they get there. He is rather nervous due to knowing how obvious his wounds actually are. He feels Papyrus put a comforting arm around him. He leans into the embrace closing his eye softly.

Not long after they arrive at their destination, though the two take their time getting off of the boat.

Sans can easily tell that Papyrus doesn't want to rush him, though knows that they both know it's best to get it over with.

The two of them reach the part of town where others are outside. They stick close together.

Eyes turn to them as monsters spread the word about seeing them. This causes even more eyes to stare at especially Sans. They just watch them as they go by.

Sans lowers his head feeling a bit self conscious. He feels Papyrus take ahold of his hand to try to assure him. He looks up as Papyrus brings them to a stop. He sees the owner of the only restaurant in Snowdin Grillby.

Grillby has an orange and red flaming slightly muscular built body, a tight fitting black button up shirt with a white bow tie, black pants, and red boots since he needs to be careful with snow and water. He has stepped closer to them hoping to speak with them. "You both are still free to come by. I have wiped Sanss tab clean. Oh! And I'll take care of anyone that gives you trouble."

"Thank you Grillby." Papyrus nods his head glad to hear that they can have a peaceful time there. He knows how much his brother likes that place. "Though for now I really should get Sans home."

"Dont worry. The invitation is for whenever you want or need it. You're always welcome." Grillby does move away from them feeling that at least he's helped in his own way.

"Thank you very much." Papyrus is so grateful to the other, and he continues to lead Sans towards home. He manages to get them home and Sans is the first to head inside. He follows after his brother closing the door behind them. He locks the door which he does to try to make Sans feel safe. He turns to see where his brother has gone to and spots him on their green couch. He heads over and sits next to him finding the others head to be down. He guesses that Sans is trying to not look into the TVs reflection. He puts an arm around his brother pulling him close. He lets the other snuggle up against him.

"I don't want to go back to that sentry post." Sans admits quietly since they are alone. He knows that he will have to find another way to help in supporting the two of them.

"It's okay Sans." Papyrus uses one hand to gently stroke his brothers skull. He actually had hoped that Sans would say this. He really believes that he'd worry about his brother if he has to leave him be. He keeps his brother held close. "You can do whatever you want to do. I understand why you wouldn't want to go back. And I'm very sure that others understand as well. I'll even grab whatever you want from your post."

Sans relaxes a bit at hearing this.

"What would you like to do? Would you like to read, watch tv, have something to eat or something else?"

"How about we watch some TV." Sans suggests in which Papyrus grabs the TVs remote. "You pick what we watch."

"If that is what you want." Papyrus turns on their television and flips through some channels. He skips past the news not wanting to risk them perhaps doing a story on Sans. He finds Mettatons show and decides to leave it on for them. He puts the remote down and holds his brother close.

Sans nuzzles into Papyruss chest, letting the show become more of a background noise to him. He feels better as though some normalcy has been brought back into his life. He isn't at the hospital and instead at home after all.

Papyrus is happy to let him do this and leans back to give him more space to cuddle into.

Mettaton is rolling around on his single black wheel, his body is a grey metal rectangle being longer on the sides, he has a black screen on the middle of his body, the screen shows a pair of digital animated eyes and mouth that seem to be made of dots, the digital face changes colors to represent emotions, his face is pink when his emotional is neutral or he tries to hide his emotion, and two arms that look like tubes stuck together with claw like fingers. He is currently doing a small cooking skit talking about making a cake. "And what you'll want to do for this cake is to separate the eggs from the egg whites. It is a special recipe after all." His voice is very digital though clearly meant to be male.

Papyrus tunes the talking robot out as he looks to his brother. His arms stay around his sibling who remains with his face buried in his chest. He moves one hand to stroke the others skull gently and a little lazily. He wonders what his brother will do now with his life.
